I won't comment on the accuracy of the playing - it sounded OK to me. BUT (and it's a big but) this is a March - it's marked 'Marche Triomphale'. A steady pace is essential - without it the whole piece falls to pieces. Some hesitation in two or three strategic places where indicated is OK but overall the effect must be of a steady pace.

Ah. Very nice, but I notice on one of the pedal progressions you started on the low B instead of the high B. Why?

Well, to be honest I'm not sure why. Maybe the pedal sound appeared to be to weak on the high B and I wanted to improve that by playing the beginning of that line one octave lower. Although in this recording the pedal doesn't sound very strong, either...

There you go again organmike!!!!!!! "why so many........" If you can find a copy of Carlo Curley playing this at the Aoelian Skinner Organ at Girard College, you will find thm quite similar. Not doubt Mr Curley is no good in your opinion either. Play it yourself and post it for comparison. Then we can have a proper debate about it. This is an excellent performance as far as I am concerned (not that my opinion will matter to you)

Wobei ich nie das Thema von Nun Danket alle Gott raushöre :-( Da kenn ich beide Stücke nun schon so lange und mich wirklich inzwischen gut in der Ogelliteratur aus aber ich erkenne Nun Danket alle Gott bei diesem Stück immer nur in den letzten Spielsekunden....

Stimmt, das Thema ist erst am Ende richtig deutlich. Ganz am Anfang hört man es aber auch noch verhältnismäßig gut. Aber wahrscheinlich hätte sich K-E nicht so "austoben" können, wenn er sich stärker nach dem Choral gerichtet hätte.

Schau dir mal die Noten bei IMSLP oder so an: Da sind extra Markierungen drinnen, wo das Thema verarbeitet ist. Es ist fast in jedem Takt was mit dabei, nur eben nicht so offensichtlich!

It nicely counters the manual chords breaking from lower chord to the to upper chord.

Do not slow at :10 and 1:01.

Keep that same pulse (rhythm) steadily progressing there.

I agree with the :10 and 1:01, it's a common way to play it, but much better to play it with progression. However breaking the pedal entries is a pour idea in my opinion. It could be used in smaller churches with small accoustics, but the devasting effect of the full organ double pedals is left out when breaking them up.

@robertgift  I realize that your comment is from a year ago but you've made the same comment about the pedal notes on at least one other performance. If you look at the 1909 score (available on IMSLP) Karg-Elert indicated that these are slurred notes, not separated ones. In some acoustic settings, separating might be good, but it's a performance choice in that case, not something indicated by the composer.

@howeks Thank you. I have not seen the score since I memorized this in the early 1970's and loaned the music to a cute organist. (Never saw her again.)

Nonetheless, if that is what Karg-Elert indicated, I do not agree.

(When I first learned it, I believe I did slur the notes.)

It would make sense to tie those pedal notes together in contrast to the broken chords in the manuals. But I like them separated for the rhythmic pulse.

Karg-Elert hat das Stück für Orgel geschrieben. Aus meinen Noten geht zumindest nicht hervor, daß es eine Bearbeitung ist.

PS: Freut mich, daß die Aufnahme so gut ankommt! Es ist wirklich schade, wie wenig K-E auf YouTube zu hören ist.

Liegt vielleicht daran, daß man ohne Schwellwalze etc. seine Stücke gar nicht voll ausreizen kann.

Bei Gelegenheit werde ich aber noch das ein oder andere hochladen.

versuche das vorgeschriebene Legato noch strenger einzuhalten etwa in der Oberstimme (Fingersatz 4-5) ab 1:44 u.a. Finde die Einspielung ansonsten gut.

Wie gut, dass Du die Mendelssohn-Noten zuhause vergessen hast ;-), denn dadurch wurde dieses schöne Stück von Karg-Elert hier vorgestellt. Leider gibt es nur sehr wenig Musik von K-E auf Youtube, dabei wäre er sicher für viele eine Entdeckung. Ich liebe seine Musik, und bin dankbar für jedes Stück, das ich hier zu hören bekomme. Danke für diese Interpretation...

nicht schlecht, aber ich würd's ein gutes stück langsamer spielen und mehr gefühl reinbringen. es ist zu hektisch. das ist dramatik pur die musik.

Ja, das Tempo ist wohl schon die Obergrenze. Allerdings spiele ich lieber etwas zügiger, als das Stück zu vertrödeln. Und gerade bei diesem ist mir das zu Beginn häufiger passiert.

ja, das stück ist auch nicht gerade einfach, spiele es auch gerade und hab immer noch en paar stellen die nicht gehn. für meine c-prüfung reichts aber wenn ichs dann kann.
