@DyeSM1 Im sorry but it is compressor surge. nothing in the history of turbocharging has ever sounded like that except surge. that surge is from the bov adjustment screw being too tight. as opposed to a turbo thats too big. they both sound different but both are surge. but only one is detrimental to your turbo. surge is the only thing in the world that sounds like that.

@hksTypeR I dont care what you read on wikipedia, this is an example of what compressor surge is not. In this video either it has no BOV, its extremely tight or its way out of adjustment and is not opening causing the air in the plumbing after the TB is closed to be redirected out the inlet causing the fan to shudder.
@DyeSM1 yes the fan shutters cause the bov is not set right/not there and the excess pressure has to escape through the compressor,or when the pressure gets to a cirtain point and the engine cant flow the air fast enough for the turbo's flow at that pressure causing the air to escape through the compressor.its the definition of compressor surge.compressor surge has nothing to do with what the bearing does.I went to school for thisand your trying to say theyre wrong?big name school knows nothing?
@hksTypeR maybe, maybe you're right and im wrong. we are going to have to agree to disagree, this could go on forever. either way whats happening in this video is close to harmless everyone just gets all excited because it makes a cool sound.

@hksTypeR REAL compressor surge, how this got lost in translation i have no idea, is when a turbo is over boosted and it causing surging in the bearing, can happen on both journal and BB for example if you speen a wheel on a toy car to fast so it just shakes and does spin very well or fast.
@DyeSM1 Or maybe the library of stock and performance turbocharging books that I have. those are wrong too? the shool textbook with race engine performance with a huge section on turbocharging. wrong? or the years of experience with turbocharged cars i have. I guess i dont know a damn thing do i? And no i dont read wikipedia. Its 65% good info and 35% bad cause its user compiled info sometimes not having good scources for the information. I dont trust it.

When you get off the throttle after a burst of acceleration, the plates close but the compressor wheel may still be sending compressed air into the system. If the compressed intake charge cannot flow through the throttle plates, it will flow back to the compressor, which could result in bearing damage.by SuperStreet magazine, they must know less than you too.
