If you can't afford stainless steel i reccomend galvanized after weld wire mesh. Before you install it scrub it down with vinegar and water to neutralize the zinc .I bree parrots so trust me i never had a problem
WOW ! I hope someone can answer some questions for me ?It would be much appreciated.I have 7 parrots that are destroying my home, one room in particular. They all have their own cages that are always open.I want to build an indoor Aviary against a 20' wall w/t windows x 8' height x approx.6' deep.I'm worried about the type of material to use.I heard galvanized metal is poiseness. Can everything be purchased from a Lowes,or Home Depot?I want to get my house back under control.HELP,SOS !
hey, im also building a aviary. it going to be 10ft by 10ft....but i cant find the correct mesh...what kind of metal should i use..what metal did u use and where did u get it from? thanks
I recommend stainless steel but that's very expensive. Trust me I know it runs several hundred dollars a roll. You can order it at a local farm supply if they don't already have it. A lot of people use welded steel hardware also.
What did you use for the frame, pressure treated or not? I heard pressure treated would hurt the birds due to the chemicals in t he wood. Patty at pkascentz@att.net
Aren't you worried about the birds getting bird mites with an outdoor aviary? I got a fluke bird mite infestation in my NYC apartment (a dead bird in the wall void!), and it took me 2 1/2 years to get rid of.

@lucasthedogman what kind of parrots do you have?

I would love to see a materials list.
What is the rod going horizonally through the framing at approx 5' high for? Is it that theaded rod stuff?
Why did you you use smaller lumber on the sides than the roof?
Did you put anything on the floor?
Did you consider incorporating the catch door into the cage instead of outside?
Do the birds of different species get along?
I'm having my materials delivered today. Mine will be 8 x8.

My birds got infested; it was a nightmare.

What size wire did you use? I am building my first aviary and want to make sure I do it right.

I built it to fit under a 10 ft. X 10ft Gazebo that I bought from Walmart.
