Tim, thanks for a wonderful video! You saved my recent home organization project! I wrote about it, including an embed of your video in my recent blog post.
You set a bad example to your viewers by holding a piece of sheet metal in a bare hand while drilling with the other. You might easily spin the sheet and cut a huge gash in your palm. You should reshoot this video.
Nice video! One question though. As you're turning with the wrench, isn't it difficult to hold the other end of the punch? Especially working with thicker metals?
Like the video. Is there a similar way to punch other shapes? I would like to put small squares or some other polygons in metal, but haven't found many inexpensive techniques.
Thanks for the great vid, good to learn something new everyday :)
I do have a question tho that I would really appreciate if you would take the time to answer, I need to have two holes in a cast iron metal cover (dont know thickness) so that I can install a hinge.. would you recommend i purchase a "metal punch" or try my hand at drilling it?
(I have a drill, just never tried it with metal even tho i have the metal bits, only used it to put up shelves in concrete)
VERY DANGEROUS to hold any piece of metal with your hand when drilling through it, especially with a large drill bit as is being done here. The drill will usually grab the metal as it begins to break through and spin it, cutting you and BLOOD WILL APPEAR. Been there....done that. Clamp metal to a piece of wood or use vice-grips.
You do a great job on these videos. You speak right to the point, give helpful advice, and your videos are well edited. Thank you for sharing!

Correct. I'll add an annotation note. No way I'm reshooting it. When you do that, the counter goes to ZERO.

You don't really need to hold it as friction from the cutting head keeps it in position.

I've never seen anyone punch cast iron. It's so brittle I believe it would crack. You need to drill it. Google that.

Will do, thanks for replying so quick and answering my Q!

Why do you use an adjustable spanner when you have several combination spanners hanging there on the wall?
gschjetne 3 years ago
Because it comes it very handy in certain situations. You can't have too many tools.
