how do u make black fondant. i buy the ready made white fondant and have used several black pastes, gels etc but the fondant always only comes out grey :-(
@pist43 You need to either buy pre-coloured (renshaws or M&B make this) or a very strong colouring powder especially made for the job, 'House of Sugar' is the brand I use.
@MysticalMischief wow jus looked on "house of sugar" website. cant believe how cheap they r. ive just ordered some black powder. thanks for ur advice...and love the cake. i started making cakes last yr. i cant afford to go and do it professionally but ive made quite a few and no complaints so far...lol if i new how to put the pics on here i wud show u them...lol
@pist43 Be careful opening the pot, it tends to puff out! it's very very strong colourant. When I use it I mix it with a little trex before putting it in the paste, make it a day or so before you want it as it'ill take a while for the all the powder to be absorbed. Trex your hands or use gloves when mixing.
@MysticalMischief thanks chuck. ive made quite a few cake since last june but wish i new how to load pics on here. lol onli can do vids......lmao thanks for the advice xxxx
@pist43 I find if you are colouring using black pastes and gels, to help the colour along, when it is as dark as you can get it, try adding a touch of purple to it then follow that with yellow, that should make it turn jet black. :)
i dont know why they have to show so good stuff cause i really love cake so i think they should show lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of cupcakes and they are just teasing us so we would just jump through the T.V so we can eat the delicious cake.
Just so you know, it's more economical to make it in the States. Fondant is really expensive. I personally make it our of marshmallows. Makes it tasty since fondant really isn't all that palatable. Anyone who wants to make it can do a youtube search for marshmallow fondant (also known as MMF).
Anyways, thanks for showing this technique. I've tried it before but got it all wrong. Now I know what I need to do. :)
