WHY would ANYONE red arrow this absolutely, gloriously epic beauty of a tune, something which has the ability to be something that is beyond uplifting. This is by far one of the most epic songs AND it's acoustic. BEAUTIFUL.
I had the great fortune of seeing them while they were on Tour here is South Africa. They did a small show at our local Botanical gardens with the local folk club. A rare treat indeed.
God, what a treasure! My favourite song from Magna Carta! Haven't really search for it here in youtube. Found it by accident. Love love love this masterpiece! Thank you for the uploads, gnrbc. :)
Are you a fan of Magna Carta, too? Or you've never heard of them before this song? To me, it's one of the best bands in 70s & 80s, even though they are not as popular as many rock bands at that time. This Lord of the Ages album is definitely worth listening to. All the song are true gold. Talk about the music of sublime!
@avidbookreader ofc i`m a fan, because they are no so popular is hard to find anything about them, it was also hard to find they music,i download 3 albums and could`t find any more.I`m glad that there is more ppl who love "old time bands". best wishes from south32M4E .
There is no female singing in this piece, the voice is from the singer Glen Stuart. He sings in falsetto. He left the band in 1974ish. Linda Simpson joined the band somewhere around 1984.
@M3taCaf3 Its from the movie "Lord of the rings" I think Part 2 "the two towers"
Hope that are the real englisch titles, in German its "Herr der Ringe" Teil 2 "Die zwei Türme". But you have to look all three Parts, its one story! Enjoy!
Classic song from a great band, (could care less for the stupid video) but thanks for posting the song as I have not heard it in over twenty five years.
O_O i can't believe there is people on earth with tv and access to internet or a dvd store that HAVENT WATCH THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow....awesome, thank you! As at January 2009, the current line up of Magna Carta, which includes Simpson's estranged wife Linda, are to perform a farewell concert in Holland in May 2009.
Chris Simpson..what a great writer..and that Glen Stuart commentary just amazing..saw 'em live as well in the good old days..Time for the Leaving check it out...I love it and my little brother!!
No, I saw them in Almelo (the Netherlands, and they were in my village last april but I missed them:-( Next year MC is celebrating their 40th 'birthday' in Amsterdam (NL)
I was just thinking "this sounds just like Spinal Tap". not to be insulting of MC, this sounds like "we are, the children who grew too fast....." by Spinal Tap (not sure what the song is called).
i think this is one of the best bands ever, how he can play guitar like that and talk, not sing, talk! really superb of him. The rest of the band is really amazing too, and this is a world-class-song
The Season is of course the greatest of them all. Lord of the Ages and Songs from Wasties Orchard are great too! The original trio: Chris Simpson, Glen Stuart(he could sing like a girl) and Leo Trenter(great guitarist) was one of a kind.....and with Rick Wakeman on the keyboard and produced by Gus Gudgeon.... what a super group!! As someone mentioned: the best of the genre. A reunion tour would surely hit the world with such quality of composition, arrangement and performance....
why don't we have more of them rockaires?...koz they're so good and need no propaganda like for example rolling stones... or shit like them...J.Tull Yes King Crimson Genesis Magna Carta Fairport Pentangle Steeleye...simply they are other dimension...
Saw these guys in 1973 at Fairfield HAll in Croydon when the performed the whole album. Lord of the Ages sounds fantastic live. Two old friend of Mine is also a beautiful songs. Where have all those lovely years gone ?
thank you YX32 wherever you come from:=)) If you ever come to Croatia I'll buy you a drink:=))...now I don't need to buy a songbook from Mr. and Mrs. Simpson:=))...
sjajno je da...ali tako malo ima o magna carti na webu:=((..there's so little about magna carta in web...is there anyone who has all the words of this brillant song?
yes, here are the lyrics. enjoy :) The Lord of the Ages rode one night out through the gateways of time astride a great charger in a cloak of white samite he flew on the air like a storm. Dark was the night for he'd gathered the stars in his hand to light a path through the sky while the hooves of his charger made comets of fire bewitching all eyes that beheld them. Lord of the ages nobody knows whither he goes nobody knows
WHY would ANYONE red arrow this absolutely, gloriously epic beauty of a tune, something which has the ability to be something that is beyond uplifting. This is by far one of the most epic songs AND it's acoustic. BEAUTIFUL.

Magna Carta. You love em or you hate em.
I love em. Their music is so evocative of the sixties and early seventies.
This one was their crowning glory.
And the movie supporting this song is spot on. Many thanks!

My uncle somehow had The Seasons album.
He would have been 60yo then!
Anyway, when I was in the UK I saw Magna Carta at the Royal Albert Hall London circa 1973/74. I have a few of their LPs,
Lord of the Ages, Songs From Wasties Orchard, Seasons, and Live at the Concertbergouw(?) Holland.
Rarely see anything of Magna Carta on CD in Australia.

Below a dark forest in caves of black granite
the children of darkness dwelled in oblivion
betraying one another in endless confusion
for the lord of the dark had bewitched them.
From time's first creation the wise men and prophets
and all workers of magic had warned of the reckoning
of the wind and the fire and the plaque of destruction
that follows the path of evil.
Lord of the ages nobody knows
whither he goes nobody knows.
YX32 4 years ago
Far above the wide ocean and thundering rivers
and through the sun and the rain
and the turn of the seasons
rode the god of all knowing.
While all around him celestial companions
friends from the void before time was woven
honour his crown with words of white fire
and carry his robes of light.
Whither he goes nobody knows.
YX32 4 years ago
But in the peace of the valley a young child was born
filling the night with his crying
and an old man gave thanks to the lord of the ages
whose battle is not with innocence.
But the birds of the air were silent
knowing the time had come when time was forgotten
the waters were stilled, the mountains stood empty
and the cities were deaf long, long ago.
YX32 4 years ago
Enough! cried the voice and the earth was awakened
the poor and the rich felt the plaque and the fire
death and destruction rode out together
turning the world to a funeral pyre.
It was the Lord of the Ages
gathering in the harvest.
Gathering in the harvest...
YX32 4 years ago
And from the blood
and the thunder of men and their dying
his eyes dark with sorrow
the Lord of the ages gathered in his harvest.
Gathering in the harvest...
But to the old and helpless
to the weak and the humble
to the children of light
his words of compassion breathed on them gently
dissolving the darkness across the great valley that rumbled with fire.
YX32 4 years ago
And from the death and destruction
The Lord of the ages carried the fruits of the harvest
To freedom.
Lord of the ages nobody knows
whither he goes nobody knows
YX32 4 years ago
