my grandmother had a video of this show. I think it was called the Lost Prince or something like that. I loved this. We also had the Laser Tag cartoon...
I was disappointed with the artwork. I mean with the authentic special effects. I thought it deserved neat Neal Adams/Dick Giordano art for the animation. But maybe I'm alone....
@jwindyboy Nah, blu-ray will likely go the way of HD. As long as DVDs keep competitive prices, there's little to no point to going to DVD, other than storage space. And with external hard drives being in the TB range, and about as affordable as getting a blue ray, it kinda makes blue ray a pointless technology since it doesn't do anything that current technology already can.
I cannot but help wonder where in the Star Wars timeline this cartoon took place. Was this ever established, I can't remember. I think the best story was when they had to take a Maharajah back to his home planet before the (Obligatory) 'evil vizeer' stole the throne...
@Jermyn78 I think I read an explanation of this somewhere, apparently they got separated from the captain, went on these adventures before being returned, or at least that is my understanding of the situation. You must keep in mind Lucas as I heard has the final say in these matters.
Of course that wasn't Sting. I didn't know it was Copeland, though. That's kinda cool. Actually, I wasn't really hot on Droids. But looking back on it, the animation is pretty decent.
@jwindyboy not even a blue ray release, how bout just a dvd release period. yes, we did get a few episodes of dvd in 2005, but for a series that lasted only one season, it shouldn't be that hard to be the entire show on dvd
the animation of this series was really good for the time. i think the animation was nelvana studios. they are great. the theme song is good as well. wish there was a full length of it.
"I don't know R2. I was going to shuffle to safety like usual when suddenly my legs began to feel very strange and started moving in ways they never had before. It was exhilarating"
Copeland wrote the song along with Derek Holt, and performed the music part of the song, but he did NOT do the singing. Trust me, listen to other works that he has actually sung on and you'll hear the difference, he can't sing high like that.
The theme song's not bad, but not particularly memorable, either -- I watched this show all the way through twice, and I couldn't remember anything about the theme, not the tune, not the refrain "Trouble Again," nothing -- and I normally have a fantastic memory for both tunes and anything that rhymes. For example, having seen two, maybe three episodes of "Inhumanoids" when it was airing (around the same time), I can sing the much catchier theme from its opening from memory.
I didn't dislike it; it just didn't stick in my memory the way the catchier themes of several otherwise inferior cartoons of the same era (notably the aforementioned "Inhumanoids," and also "SilverHawks" and "Visionaries") did.
stepping softly in a danger zone, no weapon in my hand, its just this frame disigned by man, got me in trouble again, i put my life in destiny in the serface of my friends, I wouldnt care but it is a dangerous affair, Im in trouble again, trouble again! Those are very profound lyrics....you wont hear that anymore!
i am a big fan of the theme song of this show, i though it was sting and it isnt it's some dude named stewart copeland maybe? but i used to catch this leaving out for school and would sing the theme song to school, i miss that, in trouble, in trouble, IN TROUBLE...........(dum,dum)
i share my fasination for this cartoon with all of you guys, one time i went to a comic and toys store i spot a r2d2 of the series cartoon four or five years ago,i did`n buy it in that moment when finally i decided to buy it the toy was gone something i`ll regret my whole life,i`m in trouble again, trouble again,in trouble,in trouble,in trouble.

"R2D2 as himself" I hear hes got a condo in malibu. Anthony Daniels used to stop by and try and clean the puke off his hologram projector, but when he started waving his soiled adapter in Daniels' face and sprayed waste oil and grease on him D2 went too far. He was arrested for electro-robbery of a Circle K after this series was cancelled. C3PO made 2-1B his new partner and the 2 seem happy despite Lucas denying them royalties.
Loved this show as a (Star Wars fanatic) kid, and wish they'd release it properly on DVD. Then again, watching it again as an adult, the first story arc was - IMO - better than the prequel films, so maybe they don't want to show George up? :P
LOL you may be right... This series was way beyond what Lucas could attempt to write. Let's admit it: No matter how much people love episodes 4, 5 and 6, they were slightly above mediocre. Episodes 1, 2 and 3 were simply garbage. Lucas created a universe of massive potential that everyone took advantage of EXCEPT him. That's my opinion.
I certainly agree on your last point... I get a little angry when SW fans go on about the 'expanded universe' (i.e. what George didn't write) not counting or being 'not real Star Wars' or rubbish... for me,while some EU is poor fanfic, other stuff is far, far superior to even the original films (IMO, books like 'Tales From the Cantina/Tales of the Bounty Hunters'). On the other hand, my fave movie is TESB, which George had the least creative control over, AFAIK... :)
I bought the DVD of this show wanting to see this intro and it doesn't even have it! I feel ripped off. I also thought when you buy a show on DVD you get the entire thing. I was very dissapointed.
You can watch it now. A user by the name of Shadowboro has uploaded all the episodes. The first part of the first episode is under the video responce.
God I miss these. To think of all the othr animated Starwars series they could have did back in the 80's. Droids was great, little stories with little characters that were still terrific. And whata theme song!
Kinda hard to believe that the Ewoks cartoon managed to go beyond one season when Droids lasted only 13 episodes plus The Great Heep. There are three ways I know of getting this series. A commercial dvd came out 2 or 3 years ago with 2 of the storylines on it. There is a homemade dvd on eBay sometimes with all episodes on it. If you have bittorrent or eMule you can download it too.
I remember watching this on Saturday afternoons (followed by The Ewoks). Never liked the Droids intro music, found it too sappy, but i'll admit it was catchy. The Ewoks music was creepier and more memorable.
I used to watch this and Ewoks every morning back on Sci Fi Channel back in the early 90's. Wow, the memories. They showed Stingray before that too. Good ol' days when Sci Fi didn't suck.
Stewart Copeland (of the Police) composed and performed the main title theme as well as the instrumental piece that ran over the closing credits! The end credits piece was always my favorite as it really rocked!
And "In Trouble Again" did NOT feature Sting on vocals. The singer was Derek Holt.
I always wondered if there was any relation to the Police given the vibe of the title track.
Copeland has done a lot of composing for video games and such...As desolateangel83 asked is there an MP3 of this available...I lived for this show as a kid, I cannot believe Lucas has not breathed new life into it?!
They should have extended THIS series instead of "Ewoks" back in 1986. I loved this show, though I thought the animation could have been a bit better, especially on R2.
Thanks for this. I used to watch this along with Ewoks. I had totally forgotten the theme song to this show...the Ewoks theme however is hard to forget :-(
I dont care what anybody say's. Star Wars Droids was awesome. It should've lasted longer with the Ewoks. I remember watching both series on ABC Saturday Mornings before Super Powers Team:Galactic Guardians.
I remember watching this years and years ago in the late 80s when I was really young. I distinctly remember a character called "Orin Yom." Not sure if I am crazy or not, but damn it was a while ago. The cartoon was pretty nifty for very young kids. Otherwise, not so much.
The same studio, Nelvana, that animated the "Droids" series also did the animated segment in "The Star Wars Holiday Special" which was probably where this series got its start.
They left it off the dvd release cause they are scumbags. Actually, I read somewhere that the dvd is missing about 20 minutes of the original tv version for both stories that are on there. I believe that article also said that they didnt want to include the intro cause they felt it was a horrible intro. I feel that makes it an inferior dvd release.
that was one of the best theme songs ever.. if you check out the lyrics it explains the situation of a droid.. no one gives a shit about em... cuz there not alive.. "I b cuz of this brain Dzined by men.. i got in to trouble again." think about it.
You know..... *scratches head in thought* now that I'm seeing this again, it kinda makes me a bit sad because, and I know this may sound really strange, it makes me wish I could go back and re-visit my childhood for just one day, to relive the memories and see things I loved again.

I wouldn't care/But it's a dangerous affair
I'm in
Trouble again/Trouble again
In trouble/in trouble/in trouble
EliteRanger 5 years ago
close, but you got some of the lyrics a bit wrong, i think. i believe it's
strapped in softly/in a danger zone
no weapons in my hands
it's just this brain/desinged by man
that's got me in
trouble again/trouble again
the rest seem ok

I think I've got it...these are what I can make out of the lyrics:
Stepping softly/In a danger zone
No weapons in my hands
Just this frame/Designed by man
Got me (in)
Trouble again/Trouble again

Yikes... the song is much worse than I had remembered it to be. Maybe this is why they left it off the DVD release?

They left it off the dvd release cause they are scumbags. Actually, I read somewhere that the dvd is missing about 20 minutes of the original tv version for both stories that are on there. I believe that article also said that they didnt want to include the intro cause they felt it was a horrible intro. I feel that makes it an inferior dvd release.

You know..... *scratches head in thought* now that I'm seeing this again, it kinda makes me a bit sad because, and I know this may sound really strange, it makes me wish I could go back and re-visit my childhood for just one day, to relive the memories and see things I loved again.
