The fire came from fuel splashed from a split tank onto the hot engine and spilling from the fuel pump, which was in the equipment bay that flew out, along with the generator. Sparks from the generator and traction motors ignited the resulting fine mist of fuel.

Walls are not usually built across a railway track, and they don't usually have buffers, couplings and (detached) wheels! Also, the wagon was shunted a couple of hundred feet down the track by the impact, ending up partially on top of a coach.

In this case, the nuclear container should be able to survive anything short of a direct hit with a specified amount of high explosives, and likely it passed---the container survived the train that struck it.
