This is an incredibly good version of Brothers in Arms, what a wonderful voice, I´m so glad I´ve stumbled across this song. I wasn´t aware that she still makes music. I will buy her recent CDs immediately.

I can`t stop playing it over and over again...I`ve been listening this song for over 3 hours now and still can`t get enought of it!!! by my humble opinion it`s better then the original. Altough I`m a big fan of Dire Straits Joan`s version sounds a lot better!!
An absolutely wonderful cover of this great song by Joan Baez, who at one time posessed one of the best voices in the world. I have seen her live twice in the last 4 years, its still there..the top notes not quite so pure, but at her age I think she is still fantastic. The magic is still there in spades!!

Not many singers can sing Mark Knopfler's songs, but Joan Baez seems to have the unique soul to capture the spirit of his songs as she has done with Brothers In Arms.

@goldynheart Absolutely. I don't listen to a lot of Dire Straits but have heard a few covers of this and none have really cut, though I LOVE Joan I was a little apprehensive but as soon as she started singing it was fantastic. Had a beautiful Celtic sound to it. :) Many smiles.

Der Willkür eines Oberhauptes ausgesetzt zu sein erscheint mir nicht in jedem Fall die bessere Wahl, vor allem wenn man betrachtet, dass solche Oberhäupter meist nicht nach Kompetenz sondern durch Vetternwirtschaft oder per Geburtsrecht ausgewählt werden. I had the whole album but lost it. Thanks for posting this. The original is Mark Knopfler's. Though Mark's guitar is missing her, Joan's voice wonderfully makes up for the vocals. Would be great to have them perform together on this piece. Unfortunately, I cant find them. Thanks again brother.
Exactly. Joan Baez is one of my favorite singer too along with DS. Actually, both of them performed in S.Africa at the height of the apartheid but not at the same time I guess.

@udor1962: Ganz einfach, weil weder Joan Baez noch Ostrock RTL-VIVA-SAT1-kompatibel sind, und auch nicht so richtig zu unserer Ellbogen-Brot-und-Spiele-Big-Brother-Dschungelcamp-Spaßgesellschaft passen, in der man lieber nichtssagende oder aggressive Musik hört, weil das ja so ultracool ist, und auf die Ökos schimpft, die einem ja den ganzen Spaß verderben wollen, während andere wiederum zu Hartz-IV-Sklaven geknechtet oder niedergeknüppelt werden. Doch, das darfst du öffentlich sagen.

@udor1962 Also, ich kenne sowohl Dylan als auch Joan Baez und war auch schon bei konzerten von beiden. Und ich bin grad mal 16. Und die leute bei den konzerten waren größtenteils so alt wie ich oder ein paar jahre älter, also ich seh das alles nicht so düster.

@hjs480 Ich weiß nicht, was bei dem IQ-Test rauskäme, ich vermute ziemlich hohe Werte für beide. Aber was nützt es, bei einem Machtmenschen und einem Nicht-Machtmenschen den IQ zu vergleichen. Machen wir lieber einen Weisheits-Test, da wirds eindeutig: Joan hat den Text von "brothers in arms" verstanden, Angela könnte das nie.

I have been a huge fan of Joan's most of my life. Saw her at Red Rocks outside Denver 40 years ago. I didn't know she covered this until just now. Magnificent. Mark Knopfler is my favorite musician/composer on the planet, and she has done his masterpiece total justice with her voice alone. Just magnificent, Joanie...

@goldynheart Absolutely. I don't listen to a lot of Dire Straits but have heard a few covers of this and none have really cut, though I LOVE Joan I was a little apprehensive but as soon as she started singing it was fantastic. Had a beautiful Celtic sound to it. :) Many smiles.

@EuroBughouse Das ist duchaus eine berechtigte Betrachtungsweise, doch stellt sich die Frage welches System der Demokratie überlegen wäre. Der Willkür eines Oberhauptes ausgesetzt zu sein erscheint mir nicht in jedem Fall die bessere Wahl, vor allem wenn man betrachtet, dass solche Oberhäupter meist nicht nach Kompetenz sondern durch Vetternwirtschaft oder per Geburtsrecht ausgewählt werden. Ein solches System ist maximal für eine Generation sicher, danach kann niemand mehr für Recht garantieren

ja das mag ein Großteil sein. Ein grosser Teil der sich einen Schei** um Wahlen kümmert und aktiv zum verfall beiträgt. Eine Wirtschaftskrise entsteht nicht einfach mal so eben.... Und selbst die gut verdienenden wird es genau so erwischen wie die armen.

@EuroBughouse Wenn ich mich kurz auch in die Diskussion einschalten darf: Wenn sich die Regierung nach dem Volk richten würde, wäre dies ein ständiger Tanz. Denken wir mal, die Leute wollen, um sich selber zu schützen, ein Waffengesetz wie in den USA. Regierung folgt dem. Dann merken aber alle, hey, das wird ja noch schlimmer und will es wieder geändert haben. Tja, und so weiter und so weiter... Deswegen müssen Politiker auch mal unpopuläre Entscheidungen treffen.

Dies kann durch vielerlei Umstände passieren, als da wären: 1. fehlende finanzielle Mittel, den ohne Geld auch keine Bildung; 2. Das Desinteresse welches unter den Jugendlichen der heutigen Generation stark gesät wurde, hierfür kann nur das desolate Schulsystem Deutschlands verantwortlich gemacht werden;....

It is incredible how she has taken the Dire Straits song and made it uniquely hers. Totally disagree with the comment about adding guitar riffs. That would simply be a woman singing a Knopfler song.

I had the whole album but lost it. Thanks for posting this. The original is Mark Knopfler's. Though Mark's guitar is missing her, Joan's voice wonderfully makes up for the vocals. Would be great to have them perform together on this piece. Unfortunately, I cant find them. Thanks again brother.

Exactly. Joan Baez is one of my favorite singer too along with DS. Actually, both of them performed in S.Africa at the height of the apartheid but not at the same time I guess.
