Hi there, I have been trying to refine silver from sterling scrap, I start by dissolving the silver in nitric acid and distilled water, I then add salt until a whitish material is formed at the bottom of the jar. I then filter off and rinse, I then add red devil drain cleaner which turns the material very black and heats up but turns the white material very watery, I then rinse and add karo syrup but at this stage it is just like water and nothing else happens no matter how much syrup I add ?
silver oxide decomposes at 200 degrees celcius forming silver and gaseous oxigen, there's no need to make any mess, you just need a torch and do as if you would melt silver
This is a method for cracking silver oxide. Now if you assume you have clean silver chloride, you wouldn't want to re-introduce copper back into your silver. So from AgCl its mixed with lye to make the Ag2O then the syurp. This is alot faster and cleaner, because you wont have xtra copper waste.
if you take the silver nitrate after extracting with nitric acid and instead of mixing with NaCl to make AgCl you can, assuming you are doing silver recovery, put copper metal into the silver nitrate solution and do a single replacement and make copper nitrate and silver metal. Super easy and 100% not dangerous.
@tjiddles25 Actually any O=C-HR' formyl will work. Just that a strong base like lye is used to crack table sugar into aldoses which is merely a catalyst.
so your making real silver? may sound dumb but no question is dumb except for this one.

This will work on separation of silver sulfide also?

Nice. I've been looking for videos where people aren't running their mouths off. Well done

is this reaction doable with any kind of sugar??? or do you need your 'special' syrup???

About as dangerous as boiling an egg.
