@rob2nelson1 Everything is acoustic, electric, and either guitar or computerized gibberish, never spend 5 or 10 years working to perfect an instrument. Just turn on some electric gizmo, set the dials you want, and what ho! You are a master musician! couple hundred bucks and some silly looking clown clothes will get you there!
@KutWrite Krazy Kat was referred to as both genders throughout the series. Krazy him/herself also kept the reader guessing in many self references. Part of the charm I think. Offisa Pup always seemed to be protective of Krazy, while Ignatz could care less, so long as he could plant that brick squarely across that 'bean.'
Much has been written about Krazy's gender. All of it consistently inconclusive! If nothing else, the whole series is truly is a great work of Art, I say. Bix too!
hi lisa, great name, one that i chose for my daughter, was fortunate enough to catch joe venuti when he was appearing at bourbon street night club in toronto when joe was in his early 80's. what a fantasticplayer, one set he played was all romainian and gypsy classics, he could bring tears to your eyes, itried to imagine him and bix to-getheri sure would like to have lived in those times.....oh well, i'm thankful for what i have, great videos and pictures, best regards al.
Wow! wish I'd seen Venuti when he was still performing - what a great story, thanks! When I think of all the amazing jazz pioneers I could have seen live in the 1960's
and '70's (and didn't) it makes me crazy ... aarrrggghhh!
They use a program like GoldTone, to filter out the surface noise (caused by skin acid on playing surface, esp. on edges, playing surface not being mirror smooth before pressing, and mishandling). The signal wave of needle scratch differs from that of the actual groove wiggle. GoldTone or whatever would block that during the copying.
I had this on a UK album from EMI/PARLOPHONE - It was Beidebecke & Frankie Trumbauer - entitled "BIX AND TRAM" - It also featured the duo VENUTI & LANG on this cut, I believe.
Amazing at 2:43 that FOUR musicians got billing under Trumbauer, they were ALL that good!
I'm building an ever-expanding music history channel with over 500 playlists so far. Just added this to the 1927 & Adrian Rollini playlists. My lists feature most genres & cover the globe. 111 lists let you hear the music of any year since 1900 like you've stepped back in time, for 1 - 1 1/2 hours per list (so far!)
My dear friends, I stumbled across my mother's collection of her favorite recordings one day when I was about 8. I discovered them along with an old electric 78 rmp record player in the house that one summer. Among the recordings was a few Bix recordings. I played those and still enjoy the wonderful sounds of that music. I am now making CD's of them to play at home.
Mom, because of her musical talent and her father's friends, was familiar with most musicians of those days. She was 13 in 1923.
It always nice to hear of someone who appreciates the music of Bix. My uncle, Tom Gibson, played clarinet with Whiteman while he was a student at Cornell in the late 20's. One day he played some Bix for me and it was the beginning of a life time love affair with his music. He also introduced me to Hoagy Carmichael: Carmichael played the piano and my uncle played his clarinet.
Outstanding video montage, really evocative and informative.

Bix may have been only 28 when he died, but at 0:55 we can see he was a dirty old man!

If you like Bix, check out what modern people like you and me are doing nowadays, with little more than a keyboard.

So nice!
I always liked Krazy Kat the character, too. Never knew there was a song named for him/her.
I forget which it was, but I'd guess Kat's a "she." "Ignatz" is a boy's name and same-gender romances were taboo in comics back then.

@pinkieldred They start out with the metal mother from which the 78s were made. It is still in existence.
