Delighted you enjoyed it Dave. It is indeed a lovely song but I'm not sure I do it justice. Many thanks for your kind comment. Greetings from Ireland.
Dena, you are too kind. You didn't mention the two mistakes I made!!! I had intended to post it again but never got round to it. Probably I was most content with the playing on the other Irish love song "My Mary of the curling hair" though it is not so famous. When you "feel" the song I think that makes it special.
Well Wanda I'm delighted it added to your day. Incidentally a belated "Happy Mother's Day". We celebrated it in March. How come there's never the same fuss about Father's Day !!! LOL
Terry, thanks for subscribing to me and for your compliments. This is a beautiful song, very nice. I haven't picked up an accordion in a long time, all I have is a 12 bass that works right now, the others all need straps. I have an old 40's 8 bass, and an older 48 bass. The song is wonderful and you did a wonderful job playing, thank you. Carmy
Thanks for your kind comment Carmy. You must take up the accordion again. Many of the old accordions had a wonderful tone. Looking forward to hearing you play.
Terry, Glad you're playing again, and thanks for asking to be friends. Now I'm enjoying your beautiful accordion music. Love the tones of your accordion. What a difference from mine .
Many thanks Gloria. I appreciate the encouragement. With work and other commitments I haven't had time to post any videos recently. I think the tone of your own accordion is fabulous. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Lovely job Terry, I fondly remember my paternal grandfather (a Scotsman!!) asking me to play that when I was a boy. He was a survivor of Passchendaele battle during WW1 and it meant a lot to him, possibly one of the songs that kept the men going. Lovely memories, thanks
Very pretty Terry. I like this one. I purchased an accordion last week after 7 years of not playing. I took it to a music store today because two keys were sticking. It took the person almost 45 minutes to pinpoint the problems and fix them. He refused money, but insisted I play him a tune. I explained, :It's been 7 years since I have played but I whispered a prayer & did an awesome job on "Just Because Polka". Whew! (I had been practicing it at home since last week. Fran
Glad you enjoyed it Fran despite the few mistakes! And welcome to the club of ex-accordionists who have taken up the instrument again! I'm struggling all the time but enjoying it immensely.
Delighted you enjoyed it. Hopefully I can post "Grannies Highland Hame" sometime in the near future. I have posted "Loch Tay Boat Song" which is one of my favourite Scottish songs.
Thank you Jim. I'm not sure I did it justice but then I'm seldom satisfied with my playing!!! LOL Afterward you keep thinking about mistakes in notes and tempo!
No, I'm not that kind. I'm patient ...... He doesn't feel the music or the instrument. It was brutal torture for all of us every song and we all needed to get more drunk .
But now I really enjoy this period of good music, people who have it in their heart and soul. Its something special.
You have hit the nail on the head. It is important to have a feeling for the music. Even though my technique is very faulty I just love to play and, indeed, to listen to other people playing. I have many youtube friends who are fantastic musicians and they are a joy to listen to.
I never knew that listening to an accordion can be so beautiful. My uncle always tortured us on celebrations playing this one so wrong and drunken wronger. Good old times. NICE!
Thank you for your lovely compliment. But in many ways I can identify with your uncle. He enjoyed playing and that was the most important thing. So what if we make a few mistakes! It's not the end of the world! LOL
Many thanks Angela. I knew that this song would strike a chord (pardon the pun!) with all people of Irish descent. And of course Italians love all great songs.
Thanks Jim. Coming from you I take that as a great compliment. A fine young accordionist from Co. Antrim - Nigel Black - does a lovely version of this song on his CD "Apples in Winter". Well worth listening to.
Thanks Brinn. I think it would sound wonderful on your violin too. You should try it. I haven't uploaded many videos. I have to work too. In these times of recession it's difficult to "keep the wolf from the door"!!! LOL
Thanks Kevin. You certainly know all the good Irish accordionists when you mention Ronnie. In truth I didn't play it very well because I hate that damned video camera!!! LOL
