  • HELP PLEASE!!!!

    Hi there,

I'm having a problem and wondering if you could help me to figure this out.

I follow your stapes, but wen i get to create the mackie control, click on the box but mine shows only alesis master control MIDI port (2 times), and no alesis master control control port.

What should i do? did I miss any step or do I have to configure something in my mac before.

    Looking forward for some HELP...

    thanks.

    Bruno

  • hi DrFunk777 I got a question, a friend of mine recommended me to go for a motu 8pre or such instead of alesis mastercontrol because of the preamps that alesis has aren't that great -he said, and it seems you know the mastercontrol well enough, what do you think about the mastercontrol against the motu firewire interface?

in advance I truly appreciate your response.

    Cheers.

  • @krazyeknine57

yep, you can you the additional digital input on the MC to ad your preamp. great idea. ;)

  • i hace an interface so i need RCAs to 1/4 inch?

  • @browntownrecordsllc

ummm....whatever jack to plug it in.

  • i have a radio shack mixer. and i got lexicon. can i hook up mu mixer to the lexicon tothe cubase?

  • @browntownrecordsllc you can hook up anything that makes sound to your computer, just need to plug it in to the computer. you'll need some sort of interface.

  • i have a problem im using a hardware drum sequencer i also have cubase im trying to incorporate cubase as a multi part module to be triggered by my drum machine

ii can assign 1 part channel to play the corresponding channel on cubase but it doesnt go further than 1 part and i tried using the The MIDI Input Transformer as well but no luck im not trying to sync through mmc or mtc i just want to play multi parts using the drum sequencer

  • Is the Alesis master control compatable with windows 7?

10x heat I appriciate people like you 10x mate :)

  • looks like at this time it's Mac OSX, XP and Vista

  • what I meant is that i have 3 banks that make 8 x 3 = 24 tracks or only .. 8 faders x 2 banks = 16 total tracks .. or can I have more?

    thanks alot :)

  • unlimited. well....limited only to how many track you can record with your DAW. In Logic, i had 68 tracks going....just kept tabbing over in banks of 8. It makes no difference to your Master Control. cool?

  • heeey DEFunk7777 great videoo .... I wanted to ask you something. If I am working say on 30 different channels on cubase (ex. kikk, drum, piano etc..) can I do it on alesis or my maximum is 16 channels like yours?

    thanks a lot

  • great vid you are not wasting your time do more and i'll keep in touch i almost felt like i was in school thanks

  • Ha! Thanks man.

  • Hey Heath, Will this work with EZDRUMMER? .. I trigger ezdrummer via midi with my Alesis DM5 drum kit.. Thanks and Great VID!!!

  • work like...how? recording it? hell yes! Mixing it? Hell yes! this works with ANYTHING!!!......so far. ;)

  • does it have 64 bit vista drivers?

  • Ayo! Dr.How can I master a song when Im finish recording?

  • in Cubase? You'll need to export to a file. Tell me more about it and i'll see if i can help. I think i saw a bunch of vids on here, but if you can't find it, let me know.

  • My LE4 is messed up, I can't get anything to play, I see the little audio bars at the bottom right moving but there is no sound coming out at all..........I have unmuted every thing over and again...I need help so please......uh......help

    hehe

  • wow, could be anything. What hardware are you using? If it's a master control, make sure your A,B,C monitor switch is on. I know, seems simple, but I've seen it happen a bunch.

  • hmmm....i COULD, but it'll be a little tricky. YouTube audio is obviously substandard...don't know if you could really get a clear depiction.

IMO, the preamps are GOOD. lots of headroom, zero noise. Let me see if i can figure out the best way to demo it for ya. stay tuned....

  • Great tutorial video! I just got the Master Control and didn't get a manual with it and your video helped me out tremendously! Thanks again!

  • No prob, I still use mine every day. Solid unit!

  • i wanna ask something.. what is your opinion about the sound quality of this interface? its name is "master control" and almost all the sources in internet (including the official site) emphasize on its control surface functions. does that mean that its preamps and ad/da converters are not that good?

  • exactly my question...i have rme fireface 400 but when i compare the specs, master control has better than the RME! master control has 114db A/D,D/A while RME has 109db...

Alesis also has jitter suppression, filters etc for really clean audio.

Though RME is recognized for its converters, I compared that to the master control and couldn't find any difference in sound quality. Alesis sounds very clean and rich...better than the Yamaha N12.

  • I'll definitely agree with you here.

Specs are specs...my ears are my ears.

I love the way it's sounds.

Super quiet, great pres, very warm with lots of headroom.

    Once again, just my opinion.

  • Very good tutorial, thanks!!

    Peace!!!

  • thanks mayng

  • Hi Heathdaddy. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I finally managed to get my MC to work with my Cubase 5. The only problem I have now is that when I use the MC controls, it plays sounds as if it's a keyboard. How do I get rid of that? I'm running it on a PC...

  • WHOA! ok, sounds like your MC is sending these midi notes to your VSTi's. Gotta reset your midi ports. not a problem.

When in your device setup and enabling "Mackie Control" make sure your higlight "Mackie Control" on your left then pull down and select "Control Port" for in AND out. THEN when your selecting a midi input for your VSTi, choose MIDI port. (not control port)

Sounds like those control midi messages are being sent to the wrong input. That SHOULD do it. let me know!

  • Dr. Funkiest,

Its Frank from DreamEdit. Hows this thing w/ Logic Pro? Any on line demos? Have you had any Logic use w/it?

  • FRANK!!!!!!!!

Yes sir, I'm pretty much 100% Logic at this point.

    Definitely my DAW of choice.

You still in Newp? I'm on the road for another week, but I'll just swing it by so you can play with it. HIT ME BACK BRO!!!!

  • DF, How would you compare the master control with the M-Audio Project mix? One big turn off to me about the master control is the lack of mic pres. It seems to make it more limited for live gigs.

  • yeah i would see the master control as a live piece. the cut down on the XLR in to save the customer some cash. Also, if you're an audiophile, you probably have some super high end Avalon pres. in which case you'd be using them up front and just sending the adat over to the MC.

I personally take advantage of BOTH adat inputs on the MC, utilizing 24 tracks simultaneously. The Project Mix can't do that. HOWEVER, if you're looking for more on-board pres, the Project Mix is a great solution.

  • sick thanks man thanks i needed some affirmation ..

  • yeah man, people like to debate which software is better.

it's as useless as arguing about which ice cream flavor is better.

    Only YOU can decide! :)

  • is it fire wire 400 or 800 i want one will it work with protools? is cubase better.. sorry im such a noob

  • FW400. Thus far FW800 is pretty much just for video applications. At some point, FW800 might the standard for audio too.

It'll control ProTools no problem. Just turn the encoder to the ProTools preset and select. No prob. ProTools of course needs it's own AUDIO hardware, but you can CONTROL it with Master Control. Try as many DAWs as you can and see what works best for you. THANKS!

  • awesome thanks for the tip yea ... i'm thinking of either going for adobe audition wich is the new version of what i shamefully use (cooledit pro2)

or that cubase that ships with the master..

wich i must ask is it a a trial or sample version..

or is it the real deal?

thanks for the vids man you should get paid for them

  • Real deal Cubase LE4.

    This software is TOTALLY useable.

i'd start by using this, and then when you get the opportunity, check out other DAWS.

you'll have everyone tell you what THEY think is the best, but you'll be better off finding out which one works best for your methods of recording.

No right or wrong...just what flavor you like the best.

    Cool?

  • glad u likey

  • great thanks
