Also your comment on my comment was pretty 'troll'ish itself, I'll stick to Rosshire's rolling mountains and you can have all the Glasgow gutter you fancy.
@santiano42 and you would be wrong. Kilts came first. But hey, believe what ever you want...wont change history or the universe. Oh and everyone time some retard thinks kilts are dress some loser rapes a unicorn.
Saoralba, yes, kilt is Your national dress, however first known tartan woolish kilt has been discovered in Caucasus Mts. and is about 6000 years old. Kilt was used in many cultures through Asia and Europe before came to Scotland. It means that we all, even non-Scottish have rights to wear it.
BTW do You know hwo and when invented clan tartans?
First of all 1314saoralba kilts are Celtic NOT Scottish. There are in fact 7 Celtic nations that lay claim to the tradition and heritage of the kilt. Scottland, Ireland, Wales, Brittney, Cornwall, Isle of Man, and Galicia / Asturias. As a Welshman I too celebrate the kilt. In fact I wear mine all the time! It doesn't matter where the kilt is made, if it's a kilt, it's a kilt!
@BCWhitestack1 Without going into to much detail i think you will find that the kilt evolved in Scotland. Welsh original wore a tunic possibly belted. Celts adopted kilts in more recent times. The first tartan to be recorded in Wales was in 1967 by D.A Richards and was the colours of the Welsh Flag.
The kilt has it's roots in Scotland and futhermore it is OOR NATIONAL DRESS!

The word kilt is a Scottish word!! The kilt belong's to Scotland
@BCWhitestack1 we don't wear kilts in Galicia. I've started using then when i moved to Scotland :). But yeah, we have load of celtic heritage, that's true. That's the thing that differences us from the rest of Spain.
@BCWhitestack1 The kilt is not Celtic, the celts NEVER wore kilts, The celts were widley documented as wearing trousers. The kilt was devloped in the 16th century Scottish highlands and was worn exclusively by the highland gaelic Scots. Modern "celtic" countries only adopted the kilt in the late 20th century. Do some research before you spouit ignorant, preposterous bullshit.
@DonMeaker Actually no, the Kilt was not patented by anybody, an Englishman merely modernised the Great Kilt slightly, his name was Thomas Rawlinson.
The Kilts existed long before then. From the Scottish Highlands.
The Irish had a Saffron version created for them when Queen Victoria suggested the Irish regiments were better kilted, the Scots put their foot down on Tartan (Plaid) being used and would not allow it, so the Irish had their version plain Marroon coloured.
@segano1 Actually, yes, he did patent it, you can look up his patent information. The Scots workers he hired tended to strip off their clothes (rather like a long shirt) and work naked. The kilt was disliked by the scots, who preferred to work naked, and eventually banned as suggesting there was a difference between Scots and the rest of British. That did it. The romantic scots would wear it as a mark of their difference, and during the Celtic revival, it spread even to the royal family.
A kilt is part of our history and culture for hundreds of years.
It not only identifies us as being Scottish but also reveals our family name. You can wear a kilt anywhere in the world and we are instantly recognised as SCOTTISH......How many nations can do that!!!!
Utility/American/Canadian kilt does does none of the above - it's a skirt!!!
@1314saoralba First of all, Kilts are Celtic NOT Scottish. The Celtic nations ALSO include Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, Isle of Man, Asturias / Galicia. 7 in all and ALL lay claim and heritage to the kilt. Being Welsh I also take pride in wearing my kilt everywhere as it MY heritage too. A kilt is a kilt no matter WHERE it comes from.
To everyone claiming Utilikilts were invented in England: Not true. Utilikilts were designed by a resident of Seattle, Washington, in the United States of America. Utilikilts were originally intended to make American men more manly. They are popular both in America and Canada. Paul McGillion has a Utilikilt, and boy, does he look hot in it!
@SkeletonDrawer Do you mean that it's banned ? (I'm sure I played in Holland when I was a piper in British Caledonian Airways Pipe Band, back in the '70s and '80s - we had no trouble wearing the kilt then!)
@piperbob2 try wearing one to school. it sure is okay when it's for a special occasion (like, for example, playing in a pipe band) but when it's for casual clothing, it's another story.
@thegranitebison That's Holland for you. and to think this discussion started with a statement saying i can't wear a kilt around the place without getting impolite comments. strange world, eh?
@amaffmaheid i wasn't aware of the fact we have, as you put it, 'african drug gangs', no-one wears clogs, and legalization of weed and sexshops led to more safety. when you don't have to go to a back alley to get weed, but can buy it legally, no criminals are involved. if i misinterpreted your meaning, i'm sorry. maybe you think it's a shame, having no legal pot in Schotland. i, for one, would like to see 'kilts for everyone' in the Netherlands.
@SkeletonDrawer How does legalizing slavery make it "safe?" It wasn't safe for the thousands of Africans who died on the cargo ships during the era when the Atlantic slave trade was legal. Sex trafficking is an evil, disgusting industry that needs to be ground into dust, never to be heard from again. And you can tell that to every pimp in Amsterdam. I would personally castrate each and every one of them if I had the power.
@AtarahDerek: i never said i support prostitution. the point is, there will always be prostitution, no matter if it's legal or not. but when it is legal, when government has influence, there can be regulations to age, working conditions etcetera, and criminals have less chances because legal brothels don't want to conduct business with crooks, ergo no slave trade. there is a certified union for prostitutes, which protects rights and have contact with police for when the law isn't obeyed. peace
@SkeletonDrawer Trafficking is trafficking is trafficking is trafficking. Slavery is slavery is slavery is slavery. It doesn't matter what you call it. It is what it is, and it is still disgusting, and no one who claims to oppose slavery should support or even tolerate it. Legalized slavery is still slavery. Selling yourself instead of being sold still makes you a slave.
Modern day abolitionists unite against the sex "industry!"
@AtarahDerek A penguin is a penguin is a penguin is a penguin? Sure it is what it is, but it is not disgusting at all. Prostitution exists to prevent very real problems. I'll leave it as an exercise to you to think of some of those problems and how they relate to you saying prostitution is "disgusting", which is the least of our problems.
Also, technically speaking you sell yourself everytime you communicate with someone. You are not making a good case for yourself.
@devjock I can't think of a single problem that prostitution "prevents." It only creates problems. It is slavery, plain and simple. There's no way around that brutal, blatant and obvious fact.
You don't own me just because I'm speaking to you. Talking is not trafficking.
Why is it abolitionists today still encounter the same opposition they did in the 19th century?
@AtarahDerek Abolitionist you aren't. Fucking crazy you are.By your definition, anyone who works is a slave. Sounds like a welfare recipient that is trying to justify himself by saying "having a job is just selling myself and I won't do that".
@ardvarkkkkk Having a job should never entail sleeping with the boss or with clients. Prostitution is slavery. There is no way around that. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch.
I'm opposed to human trafficking, which is the modern term for slavery. Thus I am an abolitionist.
William Wilberforce was not on welfare. Even if he had been, it would have been because of health issues resulting from the work he was already doing as an abolitionist.
@ardvarkkkkk not sure how this has anything to do with the video but im sorry, you are so wrong. by creating a situation in which the masses can not survive unless they sell there time and energy to a corporation or self righteous business owner is a form of forced labor, and forced labor is a nice way of saying slavery. Capitalism is a greed driven poison that has brought most of the world to its knees in the past few years alone. and I have a job and do not get welfare.
The pleated kilt and clan tartans were developed in Scotland in the 16th century. But the concept of the "kilt" has been around much longer, and is universal. Kilts, by all technicalities, predate pants by thousands of years. So it's actually MORE manly to wear a kilt than it is to wear pants. It's in a man's roots. His heritage. ;)
I wish I could find my family's pattern so I could wear the kilt I was meant to wear! But these utilikilts are pretty sweet, and this commercial is perfection!
@PETRptAwyURsword What's your clan name? If you don't know that, find the clan name that's linguistically closest to your surname. Look for your surname in lists of clan septs. Once you find the clan with which your family is affiliated, you simply google the clan, and at the top of your search results should be the clan's official site. Most clans have their own sites featuring their motto, tartan, history, famous members, etc.
i love this video so stinkin much! it's hilarious! i'm scottish and moved to the states to go to university. i've shared this with all my friends here and they find it hilarious as well. i've watched this video probably 40 times already and it never gets old. i love it, and suggest you make more utilikilt commercials :)
Living in sweden i get comments like "Are you wearing a skirt?" all the time... Wish i could do the same to the sissy pants wearers without getting the cops on me XD
The Great Kilt like a long shirt was around before then. The Scots workers would strip that off and go nude when working hard. The English were offended by that, and invented the small kilt as an alternative. It was unpopular, and later banned by English government. When romantic gaelic revival came in, the small kilt was its mark, with special patterns being developed then for various "ancient clans" to include the British Royal Family!
we could all tell that the accent was not authentic, so no big 'discovery' there. But come on, it's not like English or Scottish actors can do a good American accent, can they. it is hard to do an accent if you're not born in it. But the point of this ad was not to imitate Scottish accent to perfection, there's a parodic message in there , the accent is overdone and exaggerated in purpose, for comedic effects. But you might have missed or overlooked that.
Now I want a kilt... XD

AtarahDerek 1 year ago
@AtarahDerek Abolitionist you aren't. Fucking crazy you are.By your definition, anyone who works is a slave. Sounds like a welfare recipient that is trying to justify himself by saying "having a job is just selling myself and I won't do that".
ardvarkkkkk 1 year ago
@ardvarkkkkk Having a job should never entail sleeping with the boss or with clients. Prostitution is slavery. There is no way around that. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch.
I'm opposed to human trafficking, which is the modern term for slavery. Thus I am an abolitionist.
William Wilberforce was not on welfare. Even if he had been, it would have been because of health issues resulting from the work he was already doing as an abolitionist.
AtarahDerek 1 year ago
@ardvarkkkkk not sure how this has anything to do with the video but im sorry, you are so wrong. by creating a situation in which the masses can not survive unless they sell there time and energy to a corporation or self righteous business owner is a form of forced labor, and forced labor is a nice way of saying slavery. Capitalism is a greed driven poison that has brought most of the world to its knees in the past few years alone. and I have a job and do not get welfare.

@kingdomofdalriada kilts wear first wore by the chinese over 2000 years ago, research your history before making wild statements
amaffmaheid 1 year ago
@kingdomofdalriada No need for name calling.
His heritage. ;)

PETRptAwyURsword 1 year ago
@PETRptAwyURsword What's your clan name? If you don't know that, find the clan name that's linguistically closest to your surname. Look for your surname in lists of clan septs. Once you find the clan with which your family is affiliated, you simply google the clan, and at the top of your search results should be the clan's official site. Most clans have their own sites featuring their motto, tartan, history, famous members, etc.

Im Scottish and i can tell a mile off that thats no real Scots accent!
segano1 2 years ago 2
