Interesting! Education is the way out of poverty overall. There are positions that you are not able to obtain without an education. College is the answer; education our future. Check out my video Dreams Do Come True by Latosha Asemota and give me your feedback.
thnx man, my pops just had a heart attack and i was supposed to start next week now im stuck working and paying the bills, since he needs a heart surgery, which i dont mind doing at all since he's been there for me for 18 years but hearing you inspired me to wanna go back now, although im probably going to wait til spring its gonna make me that much hungrier for it. Honestly, i dont have a clue what im doing, nobody really ever tried to help but i will BECOME. so thank you once again.
Wow, really great "assignment" at the end, David. ... I have two nieces heading off to college this fall, and I am sending this to them.. (If I send by way of their parents, the emails will get trashed). I love your dartboard exploration method... Wish this advice had been available to me back when I was in college -- though I managed to have a good bit of independent inquiry and curiosity... Hmm, I wonder... Is THAT what makes me the Black Sheep of the family? hah hah
@Savannahjb1997 (am i the only one who thinks that thingy in the background to the left looks like a fried egg??? ) -- I thought it was a smooshed Cowboy Hat with a huge hypodermic needle stuck in it.
The left right political axis makes complete sense. The right wing wants to keep the existing social order, including the rich and powerful, where they are. The left are the people that don't. The terms are from the French revolution.
Thank you for this inspirational speech. I'm ridiculously excited merely because there is so much to learn! There are so, so many courses I want to take despite my schedule already being filled. So many of my friends are going for a mere "piece of paper" that I'm afraid they won't get the most of what their colleges have to offer. I have a hunger to fill my curiosity, to learn, and to understand, and this only reaffirms my excitement.
Having finished my first year of university, I know this is really good advice. To get anywhere in the world you'll have to broaden your horizons. Great video, kind of worked into getting me interested in reading your works. :D
One modification to your suggestion: *don't* discard the idea of going to random non-building places. Exploring the real world has just as noble and amusing a history as exploring the intellectual one. Almost anything hidden and ignored is ripe for hacking.
If you go to MIT, make friends with Mr. Florey. If you don't, be him.
I will be going to college this fall, and I really appreciate how this video connects the four college years to the past, the future, and even to our civilization. I suppose writing scifi brings the idea of civilization into greater focus than most people have. Thanks for the good ideas.
Thank you! This makes me feel better about my university experience. I've done some of the good stuff you spoke about and haven't done some too. But that's what the rest of my life's for!
I love the energy you put into your subject! This is good advice and highly motivational delivery! One suggestion: Put a couple of dining chairs just off-cam to either side of the space between you and the camera, then put a sweater or jacket (fuzzy-side-out) on the backrest facing the room. Absorbs some of the echo.

this is right at the cusp of crazy, but it is on the right side, and is much good thought-provoking advice

"...you'll be a hero." A <i>hero</>? Really? Oh how the language has been debased.
If only he was an author....
