There is a bug in the sony vaio video to remove the cd-rom drive does not have to remove the hard drive, you just have to extract three screws, two internal and one external that is in a corner of the cd-rom.

At what point is it best to just go shopping for a new laptop instead of replacing parts?

for me it the amount of parts and fees to repair cost more than 1/3 of the price of the computer e.g laptop cost £550 but the repair cost £200+ then its a good idea to buy a new laptop. for me that is.....
