Before they start to play, there is footage not in the actual episode. Brent says 'we haven't played a live gig since may of 1985' (or something like that) and principal lumlee says '1986' in the real episode it just goes: ' we haven't played a live gig since..' and lumlee (sp?) says '1986'.
