Nice 'Runner, having personal experience with one of these cars albeit with the deluxe trim option and a hardtop.By the way folks 5,000 rpms is not the redline for one of these engines.A 426 is just getting started at a mere 5,000 rpms, they will easily zing past that and hurt themselves if one is not careful. They breathe and rev very well indeed. As this one and the one I was intimate with are equipped, these cars don't stop as well as they speed.Brakes and fat anti sway bars would be nice.
im in moms honda civic 5 months ago..... as we pull up for the red light i see a great 1969 roadrunner pull up on our left side to. i then tell my mom "I bet he can whopp you so hard in it" and as soon as she revved her little 4 cyclinder...... i got a huge hard on when i hear that fucking V8 roar so loud it send trembles and vibrations down the next 10 blocks! as soon as the lght turns green....... the man is gone! never going to forget that day....
425 "CLAIMED" hp, trully around 530-550..with slicks in the 11's..ive seen it for myself..they had to tell the insureance companies what they wanted to hear. Dont belive everything you hear unless you see it for yourselves
@lvtodrum very true. Actually put out close to or right at 500 HP; Dodge is doing the same thing this year with the 2011 392 Hemi Challenger, rated at 470 HP....my "certificate of origin" from Dodge has it factory rated at 491 HP.
the lil 1969 340 swinger 4 speed 391 posi 3097 lbs screams for a small block it runs 13.33 best time hi winding 340 no ac no power steering and has drum brakes. onlt upgrades are mufflers coil and wires and orange box. otherwise bone stock on street tires.
there is one error in here that has become an "urban myth" Chrysler spent the $50000 on the horn STICKER,for the rights to say "voice of roadrunner" . They got the idea of using this horn from forklifts in the chrysler factory. There are thousands of these exact Fulton horns in warehouses all over the world !! They just aren't purple. In fact in 1968 they didn't have the full rights for the road runner character. The horns were just plain black and the side decals were B&W. This horn is wrong.
Gotta love an original. No other car had the impact, speed, or charisma of the original Road Runner, not even the 64 GTO. I, too, have driven a 69 Hemi 4-speed Runner, and it was an absolute blast. Brutal to say the least. My old GTX, even being a Hemi, 4-speed, Super Track Pack car, was much more civilized. BTW, the exact car shown in this video has been my dream car for nearly twenty years. I've loved that car ever since I first saw it.
When my dad was young he cared for an elderly gentleman at the hospital, he made him laugh, and talked cars with him. when he passed he left a blank check to my dad and he bought a 68 Road Runner. Mom was PISSED!!!!
