You can also type MSCONFIG instead of %TEMP%, you will reach a window configuration.

In this window go to the "start" ortions and uncheck all the non necessary softs which start on the boot (adobe, real player, office, winamp, msn, ect...)

Click OK or Apply Settings.

On next boot a window will appear, simply check the "do not show this again" box and click ok.

In the window select the "other options" tab and choose to delete the restauration points (the most recent will not be erased).

You will gain some Giga octets.

You can also try CCleaner and Disk cleaner, two free and excellent softs for cleaning both XP and Vista.

You can also manually erased the temporary folder by doing this:

start -> run and then typing %TEMP%, in this folder you can delete all the files.

Open start panel click run TYPE: msconfig:: Go too start up programs and disable the ones you don't want running upon start up. CAREFULL do not disable antivirus programs. Next go to services in the msconfig prompt and click hide all MS programs and go thru them and pick out the ones you don't need EX: Kenotify or Tablet.. You can always go back and change later. Thanks 1234. I set, start, run, regedit, hikey current user, control panel, desktop, menu display, to 200 instead of 0. After restarting my cpu it told me to go back to the old setting before proceeding so I did. And it's not necessary, after start up just open up TASKMANAGER, PROCESSES & HIGHLIGHT (R-button)& END PROCESS, YES. Everything you're not going to be using for that particular session.

ppl who get problems with this are the ones who dunno lots bout pcs and my guess is every1 screwed up on the ram thing aka mystring=... well that thing every time you double click it it frees up 80mb of your ram (or depends on the value you put in your string) so if you keep clicking it like an IDIOT then ofc ur pc will crash, its not a good tip unless u got like 1gb of ram and you've got too many apps running laggy and its too risky as well

u missed the tip on Run>prefetch and del everything in there that gives an instant 5% performance for a short period of time or long if u keep deleting it, also most of those tips are not as powerful as stated, the menushowdelay one is quite useless it only speeds up the start menu showing up THATS IT! , the most effective one is setting ur pc on performance but it will reduce your eyecandy a lot :P however with most computers today u dont even need to do all this, dual cores run just fine
