I like the diversity in cultures in this opening. I like how they are promoting the maori culture and it makes me proud to say I am maori, but I also like how it isn't just about maoritanga and that they have acknowledged that there is a more cultural diversity in New Zealand and not just the maori people. When I watch this I am fully proud to be from New Zealand!

@Taseret28 She is def lip synching but to a pre-recorded Live version. They do this to make sure mishaps dont happen (like Christina Aguilera singing the USA anthem wrong) also if you watch Whitney Houston's famous version of the Star Spangled Banner you will see that is also lip-synched. As you know, Whitney Houston (once had) a phenomenal voice so it was just for technical precautions. Ria Hall is also PHENOMENAL just look on YT to see for yourself.

Waka Huia did this in 2009 kapa haka Nats in Tauranga. Ria Hall is in this group from Auckland. Waka Huia haka group won then, but this years winners are from Rotorua who did the haka for the RWC opening. Stunning.
