If you examine the maps the FYROM is in no way conected to the Macedonia Alexander was born to. The two are completely seperate areas of land. Also it should be noted that the ancient 'Greeks' never refered to themselves as such, they used the term Hellenes, and much like many other civilizations at the time, though they shared a common language, religion and culture they were in no way a united peoples, hence why Macedonia which was a Hellenic kingdom, much like Athens and Sparta etc.

If you examine the maps the FYROM is in no way conected to the Macedonia Alexander was born to. The two are completely seperate areas of land. Also it should be noted that the ancient 'Greeks' never refered to themselves as such, they used the term Hellenes, and much like many other civilizations at the time, though they shared a common language, religion and culture they were in no way a united peoples, hence why Macedonia which was a Hellenic kingdom, much like Athens and Sparta etc.

The real greeks were usually and almost only tribes that lived on the coasts and as far as i know macedonia wasnt on the coast actually quite far from it.

@bltchez During Ottoman rule the Turks awarded to the Albanians the titles and positions as "Pashas" that is why the main-enemy during the Revolution were not the Turks, but the Albanians. Without the Albanians the revolution would have been forwarded also in Epirus, Thessaly and in West Makedonia.

@bltchez The albanians during ottoman occupation were considered Turks, thats why they do not appear in any censuses and when Greece was liberated, the Albanians were expelled alongside with the the Turks The ´remaining Albanians in Peloponnesus leaved in 1828 when Ibrahim lost power. Kolokotronis who the Albanian nationalists present as Albanian was the Greek leader who made sure they would all go away.

@bltchez During the Ottoman occupation the Greeks were forced to speak other languages, and this because they could learn Greek only in the SECRET SCHOOL (Krypho Scholio) because back then, GREEK was the persecuted language, and not albanian or turkish or slavic. That is why some of them were bilingual - and not Turkalbanians.

@bltchez October 1820 : Markos Botsaris, another Greek leader that the Albanian nationalists present as Albanian, conquered the Pente Pegadia where he had succesfully fought against the Trukish army which consisetd of 5000 chosen Albanians. According to Pouqueville, in the battle fell only 10 Greeks.
Botsaris and his men had to leave Arta and to go to Souli in order to fight off the upcomming Cham invasion.

In August 1823 Botsaris defeated the albanian Pacha Mustafa of Skodra and his 4000-5000 Albanians in Kefalovriso. Botsaris was shot in the head while tryng to captivate pacha Mustafa, the Greeks continued the struggle with Kosta Botsaris as leader.
