I bought it in 69, 'Made to be played loud' was on the Jacket. (As were a lot of albums).
The album, if you had a manual turntable, when it reached the end, and would hang in the last groove, (click - click) it would say "turn me over" after side one, and "Play me again" at the end of side two...
This song exposes Jimmy Page for the shit guitarist he's been for his lifetime and how crappy Led Zeppelin were compared to a slew of other bands in the late 1960s.
Yet, above all bands, the James Gang were the greatest, sonically, creatively, and spiritually, anyway.
Some of the finest lyrics and songwriting/arrangement to be found right here folks....this stands up to the best from '69 in soooo many ways..... "dark side of the moon" quality stuff if you ask me (but you didn't ask me ha ha ha)
@longfootbuddy They're not supposed to make you smarter (colleges), they're supposed to teach you how to use your brain. Think of it as a gymnasium for your intellect, if you go and put in effort, you will come out stronger(smarter). But, if your commitment to working out is simply paying a gym pass fee every month(or tuition quarterly) and never go and apply yourself..well, you've wasted your money my friend.
@NiceGuyPCTV obviously, i understand the value in educating yourself, often with the help of others.. but i was refering to the absurd system of education that we have, in which almost anyone can pay a hefty amount in exchange for the credentials needed to win themselves a high place in society and a career.. most of these people are incompetent, yet they equate their certifications with intelligence and competence.. we have a system that rewards people that behave like parrots and sheep
@longfootbuddy Now said that way you got my Thumbs Up. There too many "sheeple" with what basically amounts to an Attendance Award and a Certificate of Appreciation for 4 Years of Tuition. That's I went the certification route..and chose only liberal studies that I thought would be important to my life and career. And when the Diploma'd guy is scratching his head trying to figure out a problem, the technician has to come in to save the day, and they'll look down their nose at you. Wankers.
@longfootbuddy Dude, its not just "here's my money, give me a diploma", you have to pass the qualifier exams to graduate. Thats where you show your level of competence, and whether or not you deserve the credentials you are seeking. It may seem pointless to some, but thats how the "absurd" game is played. If you wanna see a wanker, look in the mirror.
'wintertime is a razor blade that the devil made it's the price we paid for the summertime'
I this the same guy who wrote 'got me a limo, I ride in the back, I lock the doors in case I'm attacked'?
I always loved Joe Walsh BECAUSE he doesn't take himself too seriously (is THAT an understatement?) but he is capable of some really deep writing and well as some seriously funny stuff.
How much better is shit like this over the band that Joe rescued = THE EAGLES??...yet they went down in history as one of the most popular ever...shows how piss poor mass music taste is.
I play this vivyl to people to show the killer effect of saturating the crap out of mag tape. Bill Symyszyk (sp) at his finest. Also a great example of the gibson amp killer humbucker.
5 stars from me. I love it. Now here's my question. Did Joe Walsh, before, during, or after the James Gang. . . ever write a crappy song? I got into his music in the late 70's upon entering my early teenage years. My stepdad had rides again, and JW's Smoker you drink. I went on to get But seriously folks, best of Joe Walsh, and rides again, and smoker you drink on my own. I don't think I ever heard a song I didn't like. . . maybe some more than others. Was just wondering :)
@JoblessNhappy hell yeah, Joe put out several crappy albums in the 80s( always had a few good cuts on them, however)... but to be fair...what 60s/70s musician isnt guilty of the same in the 80s??....but he returned with 2, perhaps, swan song albums in 91' and 92'... Ordinary Average Guy and Songs For A Dying Planet which I find to be pretty good overall.
great song man...

As a 9th grader with his first Les Paul, I went insane trying to duplicate the guitar sounds on Bluebird.
