I have the same phone on the left, but it is black and is with verizon. It was really fast when i used it, but i discontinued it because of the price.
David you really should test out our network. If you would, try that test on the 8830...Even an actual handset like a Dare or Voyager would blow Sprint recklessly out of the blue. Hands down, Verizon has the most advanced, fastest network out there.
You're an idiot. You have no idea what verizon is doing to the network you're guessing because of your results on one phone. My verizon ev-do works fine I get 1200kbit/s
Thing is though, the mobile web card in treo's is faulty. try the same test with a moto q and it will rape the sprint phone. Same reason the Iphone sprint test is done with a treo~only people in the wireless industrys are aware the treo modems are faulty.
As Mastergunner and Adinnerandamovie both explain in the followup: signal strength, time of day, and location are important factors. Being Technician for Verizon Wireless in the Lincolnwood, IL region and had been working downtown Chicago, I know what signal clot is like and that's what happens...lag and potential lockups of data receive. Works the same way as DSL: how far you are from the central office and how many people are logged into 1 terminal.
What 99.99% of you twits fail to realize is it depends on location of CDMA/EVDO towers. If a Sprint tower is closer to the vicinity of the user than the Verizon tower, of COURSE it's going to be faster. The Palm TREO in any model formfactor does not show the signal strength of the data network, just the voice network. Because it's funny, 80% of the PDA user base we get tells us we're faster than Sprint or T-Mobile...gee, wonder why?
I bought a Treo 700P and an aircard for my laptop the same day. The contract, and the store manager, referred to UNLIMITED DATA for both. Two months later Verizon cancelled my aircard service. Why? Too much usage. REALLY. They said I was using way too much, and must be downloading music/videos. NEVER DID. You know what it is? I use TABBED BROWSING. That is all it takes. Verizon sucks.
Tabbed browsing does not increase your bandwidth. When you visit a page it downloads the kilobytes one time until you access something else on the page. Tabbed browsing seriously was not your problem and its really funny that you think tabbed browsing is an issue. Tabbed browsing is the same thing as visiting a web page. Its the TX/RX transfers that increase bandwidth loss.
My understanding was that Verizon allows you enough data to check out a certain number of page views (estimated); when you use five tabs at once to check MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, Gmail, and etc. it uses up a lot of bandwidth. No? That's what they suggested. It's funny though, because they didn't even tell me it was cancelled, then WHAM! gone. They DID credit $300, so it's cool.
Verizon has also crippled the bluetooth modem on the treo 700p. it amrkets the treo 700p as a fast evdo with bluetooth modem. but in reality the evdo crawls and the bluetooth is so buggy it does not work. ethics of corporate america.
Not true, the the unlocked Samsung phone directly from South Korea, that is untouched by American telcos works with bluetooth. Verizon cripples their hardware inorder to discourage laptop use.
How can you possibly say they are discourging laptop use when they just released a whole slew of new aircards including a the USB720 that can work for both laptoop and desktop?
We'll omit the fact that saying unlocked in a CDMA product is completely illogical. But if you're saying that the Samsung phone is the only one that works via bluetooth you're incorrect. The Palm Treos are also capable of broadband access via bluetooth.
The whole point of broadband is mobility. Bluetooth is a slow technology in general. Its specifically for syncing or voice calls. No one can expect to use bluetooth on a fast connection do to the technology itself does not have fast enough decompression. I think its funny you think verizon discourages laptop use when that is primarily how they sell service. I am with was with sprint and switched to verizon because of the more areas i can get on my laptop.
You need to consider your signal strengths on both those phones. And confirm Verizon's coverage in your area. Because I did I test with my 700w right along with your sprint pda while watching this videa and it did just fine. Try doing the same tests throughout the country you're guaranteed to have different results buddy.
Whats up! I have that site in my favorites to test it often and it works fine on my Verizon 700w. I just tried it and I got 303 kbit/sec .649s latency 16.411s d/l with the 600k test. Perhaps your phone or your area sucks.
Am I seeing this correct? I'm looking at my treo now. I swear he's running and testing that off of 1X speeds and not EV speeds. The arrowed bars are also solid. Not sure what that means, but on my Treo, the arrowed bars are shaded, not solid.
Taking a second closer look at 1:04 of the video it clearly shows EVDO. However, my video on this completely refutes this claim as I had speeds of under 7 seconds on the 600k test.
It does look like a glitch but bandwidth tests aside Sprint does have the better price. I love Verizon for their tech support however so I'd rather just stick with the MotoQ.
BOGUS! Honestly check the friggin signal strength. I'm a Sprint user and actually HATE Verizon for their plan, but this test is improperly performed and it's being linked to from certain places as proof positve.
gay with their data, they cant even compare to Sprint with plans and choice of phones, i got service somewhere, where my gf has verizon and she didnt, this maybe a lil off subject, but to state the facts, tmobile is the worst
This test is bogus. First off, you are testing 2 different devices with diferent software and processors. You are obviously sitting on top of a Sprint cell site. Just check the signal strength. If you want to conduct a real test, use the same device, with the same qualcomm chip.
Oh bullshit! The ONLY thing that matters in the end is USER EXPERIENCE. You are either getting the bandwidth you pay for or not. I can tell you from experience that Verizon has infact BW limited their EVDO offering. When I first signed up for EVDO as an early adopter, I was getting upwards of 2.8Mb/sec in Los Angeles, and ave 2Mb/s in NYC. After a year of using the same card, The best I get 256K in either city. Same hardware, same software, same cities. You're talking out your ass.
its called throttling... its very simple to do from the IT side..literally a few seconds to throttle down a network with the right commands. verizon has throttled their nework in order to control digital content and sell their own content, which will be subscription based. but its nothing new... corp america has a legacy of controlling media content.
No doubt. However throttling certainly goes against the notion of 'unlimited bandwidth' that was advertized when the contract was signed. These telcos cripple ALL their products in an attempt to nicke and dime their subscribers for every little thing they can.
I could perform the mpseed test several different times throughout the day and will receive similar results each time. Even the 1MB test I just now performed surpassed 600kbits/s. That falls directly in line with how they advertise it as when they say speeds of 400-700kbits/s.
It depends on the region.. Verizon is not a fool, they will make changes gradually over different cities... they may even leave the suburbs alone... why so they can continue claiming the fals high speed wireless.
I can go to Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, and Janesville, and still retrieve the same results on my phone. As a matter of fact, next time I am in each area, I will illustrate that very point on YouTube.
ive had a tro 600 since they came out and im about to upgrade... i love sprint but i have similar things happen to my sprint as what hapened to your 700w
