  • the chimp dosnt recognize the objects as numbers, it just sees objects that he recognizes as images which is easier to commit to short term memory, than if you recognize them as a sequential set of data. just my dumb human theory, but it makes some sense, try a human with the same experiment only elementary and unfamiliar objects, and of course some practice that would probably show comparable results.

  • remembering like a boss!

  • god

  • Lol the kids had to be asian

  • @GhostForces77 Yeah, given the experiment was done in Japan, I'm so surprised that they weren't Norwegian.

  • @GhostForces77

    DUMBASS.

  • thats all he does all day

  • Smarter then some humans i know... -_-

  • @bognopri Better memory than all

  • On the other hand the children didn't show there ass to the computer-screen :)

    )

  • Anyone knows why the BBC is SO harsh at blocking content when they are not for profit? I can understand if they block things that appear on DVD, like Brian Cox's Wonders of the Solar System, but I believe they block anything they can!

  • The chimp doesn't know the order of numbers, he simply knows the picture of the numbers so he remembers where the numbers where

  • @xmasmaster06 so he does know the order of numbers to touch. it could be that he doesn't know their relavence though.

  • WOW! If the numbers disappeared on me I don't think I would memorize where they were!

  • if yous are wondering thats is says just them i forgot to put in give sorry about it

  • HALF a RAZIN just them a big bag of popcorn. XD

  • @masterofdarkash If you did that he wouldn't be a chimp, he'd just be another fat lazy human.

  • Comment removed

  • I got 10 correct its easy

  • Half a razin? Nice treat

  • Honestly, if you wanted a home intruder to leave your house, would it be faster to argue and fight them or just start putting your hand in your underwear and throwing poo at them?

Maybe chimps had it all figured out.

  • 1:03

    Chimp pulls a Randy Moss.

  • *This would be funny!*

  • How does the chimp even understand the order of numbers?

  • Ohoh the Psychic Friends Network and Dionne Warwick will hunt this simian down!

  • C'est pas impressionnant, ils ont toujours été plus intelligents, c'est pas difficile d'ailleurs ...

  • I played that game in the description.

  • I came to 5 O.o

  • So what, 1 human has like more mental strength than all the animals in the world.

  • @EpicEarn Well the dolphin has a superior brain to most humans, but they are much less knowledgeable. It is like the difference between a first century genius and a twenty first century average.

  • "The chimp beat you"

BUT CAN THE CHIMP UNDERSTAND TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS! OK THEN!

  • @KingOfTheBeyond23 can the average child understand TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS? The average child scores better than the average adult on this test. ok then.

  • @Trentonater47 The average child should know trig... :\

  • Damn it chimps, why you gotta be styling on us?

  • The monkey might have better short term memory but I can rebuild an engine. Add a check for the humans. Now who's superior

  • I played that game in the description.

After a good number of tries I was able to beat the chimp.

I don't think this chimps skill is superior to humans.

  • Tell me if you guys can memorize those numbers as fast as him ._.

  • If you let me practice that every single day without interruption. I am damn sure I can perform or out perform that chimp. It is all about practice.

  • Crap, they're gonna learn how to hack into goverment databases next and start some sort of war or sommin somehow... :P

Na, I don't get my logic either...

  • Hoolly...FUCKING SHIT! I can't remember the numbers as fast as he can!

  • How very responsible of you to include the papers contradicting the hypothesis! Thank you!

  • excellent examples of brain power.

  • its amazing

  • 11 People don´t like this because they know that the chimps are smarter than them...

  • 1:02 HERE LOOK AT MY ASS

  • does anyone know where i could do this test online? :D

  • @xxpinkstrawberriexxx the link is in the description. After a few minutes i was able to tie the chimp but could not beat him. Give it a try

  • the chimp sees the numbers as pictures and humans do not. if you want to do the test and compare the results to humans, you need to characters that do not have a predefined meaning. Also, the chimp has probably been doing this over and over again to get treats for a while now. the gets had probably been only doing it a day... and no treats!

  • i like how in 1:04 he pushes his butt up to the computer, real classy .

  • I like how they're making me feel envious over a monkey...

  • Damn, I'd have a hard time remembering those numbers.

  • Zombies!!!!!

  • Guy: Take your hands off me you damn dirty ape!

Chimp: (Chimpanzee takes a deep breath) NOOOOOOOO!!!

every last person in the cinema stops talking.

  • Comment removed

  • Awwi always find them so cute!

  • @Nicoal1256 Yeah but them stop being cute when they rip your jaw and thingers and take out your intestines.

    True Story

  • omg its impulsive memorization the reason the kids get it wrong is because they question themselves, i'm not saying i can do it but there looking to hard

  • so apparently poo flingin is a higher form of communication than we give credit for

  • @booomhauer Or maybe the chimps realized that flinging poo is a lot more successful in getting rid of unwanted guests compared to arguing or attacking.

  • They didn't give the asian kids a treat

  • half a raisin? lmao!

  • WOAH!!!!!

  • He's showing the same behaviour as many Australian near relatives found sitting at poker machines in pubs. They sit mesmerized for hour upon hour tapping colorful buttons on screen, at least the chimp isn't gambling away his house.

  • @RPPOZZ lol

  • DAMN!!!!!

  • Rise of the planet of the apes is real !!!

  • WHATS IN THOSE FUCKING APPLES

  • @philipviele LMAOOOOO

  • wow this is really amazing!

  • Amazing :)

  • 0:59 ahaha he was like beat that bitches i'm so good i'm gonna moon you!

  • My mind = blown

  • its not that amazing you have to take into account how long that chimp sits in there each day if you put a human in there for that long they could do the same thing

  • @keggors

Yes. This is the glaring flaw in the experiment. If you read the articles in the video description, you'll learn that new tests have been conducted. It turns out even with moderate practice the human subjects can match Ayumu's performance.

  • Simply amazing!

  • It also seems to prove that Chimps can count to nine and understand the numerical concept for each numeral. That alone is astounding.

  • @mldnathai

No it doesn't. You could probably replace the the numbers with any symbols and teach the chimp to press them in the correct order.

  • He's so amazing!!! You can see the wheels turning

  • one day they will rise :)

  • @pernatiy1982 LOL

  • @pernatiy1982 on the big screen :\

  • @pernatiy1982

If we don't wipe them all out first. :(

    I hate humans.

  • if i did that every day of my life for 5 years id be able to do it when it was hidden.

  • I think chimps have a stronger right brain than we do and therefore are able to capture much more information through their senses, you can also see that the chimp is using his left hand.

  • I could only do up to seven

  • @jorgeasalas And I only do up to 1 :)) I couldn´t remember the rest :))

  • if the chimp is so smart, why are we the ones testing him?

  • proves nothing, lets see a chimp understand science and the world around him or create music or art #fail

  • @Twobarpsi proves nothing? proves that their short term memory is better than ours...

  • Comment removed

  • @Twobarpsi i find your lack of respect disturbing. your mom was an chimp.

  • @tkcwu lol

  • I got 5

  • i think its not just the short term memory, i guess its the eye ability to capture everything to our brain and remember the content at once, like a camera, so they dont remember each element. we can do it too, i've seen books and sumone teach this thing.

  • I can beat the chimp if the machine gives $100 bills instead of peanuts

  • @HaNsEL091 i really doubt that youre american

  • Alexper12, Nobody says anything about intelligence. The point of it is to show the superiority of their short term memory... what's your point?

  • This doesn't show intelligence all it shows is short term memory. many human savants display this ability but their IQs don't pass 80

  • Not only is the study disputed, but this video makes inaccurate statements about the study. In the portion where the subject was allowed to study the numbers as long as he wanted before pressing, the humans outperformed all apes. In the portion where the numbers were flashed on the screen, the YOUNG chimp outperformed adult humans, while the adult chimp under-performed. However, in another study, humans given the same level of practice as the chimp were able to outperform the young chimp.

  • I'd say this goes to prove that the majority of the human race cannot to a fairly simple task.

  • it all has to do with language. When we see the numbers we try to remember them by their name and chimps remember them by their shape.I would love to see how a 1 year old that can't speak take the test.

  • he's been trained through a reward system to do this task. It probably took months if not years to get that good. I'm sure with a couple of days training I could do that.

  • I would do that easy for bacon!!

  • wow, very clever

  • in 1:03 the monkey said kiss my ass

  • That chimp would own Brain Age on the Nintendo DS.

  • @TNQTV if you pressed number 1 fast , you will not be able to see others, that chimp memorized all numbers's place in 0.65 sec

  • Perfect meaning all 9

  • I downloaded the app and got it perfect on my first try, app name is ApesWillRise.

  • as they say practice makes perfect...any human locked in a cage and every day put on a memory test to get food the same thing over and over again your gonna get good at it

  • i hate when we all fail at this shit...

  • @usoap141 Actually this test is very easily accomplished. It is an old visual memory test mostly seen in Russian psychology books. It has been replaced by Simon Says type of tests because it is easyly defeated. What you have to do is, close you eyes when the numbers are flashing, then draw a pattern with your hand then open eyes and draw the pattern on screen by clicking the boxes. In practice it is done by laying out a bunch of cubes on table then rolling them, then removing them from sight.

  • computers fuck up our mind :D

  • @MsHbX No it's just you

  • I tied it on my 1st try..

  • That's not fair! You should compare Chimps with regular people not with Asians!!

  • @JustAnotherWannabe23 Asians are better at math than normal people on average. They chose 9 year olds for some reason..?

  • 9 ppl got it wrong on thw first try...

  • I got 7 right on second try

  • What I don't understand is...how does it understand numerical order in the first place. How does it understand OUR language?

  • @shawwtydaveere Well math is a universal language, you only need teach it the order of symbols (like you were when you were a kid). The test isnt about what the sequence of numbers are but rather quickly remembering their position (when randomized). Which with this chimp...thats fucking incredible that it can remember that much in such a short amount of time

  • 1:04 LMAO the monkey moons the screen! "eat my ass bitch..you just got owned!"

  • This should totally have been in Planet of the Apes!

  • Anyone else notice how there's no number 5 at 2:36? He goes straight from number 4 to number 6.

  • @AvengedYou

Well spotted. Have a banana (you must be a chimp).

This must be a part of the next experiment where they leave some numbers out and see if the chimp still puts them in the right order.

  • @AvengedYou The test doesn't really go from 1 - 10. On the frustrating link, which I paused the video to try, it always leaves gaps.

  • This monkey have more of the biological equivalent of RAM than humans...

  • @Cubalisk

More like, we have a maths co-processor that operates at 0.05 GHZ - they have duo-core 2.6 GHZ

  • @jazzx251 ROFL

  • @Cubalisk its fake

  • and yet they still throw their POOP at you!

  • @schristy999 probably FTW :D

  • @schristy999 Cause they see what we do with our planet maybe is my guess lol *Throws Poop* ;)

  • @schristy999 and in big springs texas the tap water is recycled sewage

  • @schristy999

Their beyond what we find "disgusting"

  • it's those bananas i tell ya!

  • DAMN!!EVEN ASIANS COULDNT BEAT THEM!!

  • bet you that damn chimp can remember yesterday for shit

  • I'm Asian! I got 7 correct at the game...

  • i try your link, i got 9 out of 10 correct the first time i play it.

    am i a chimpanzee??????

  • @ron126 stop trolling

  • If asian kids can't do it, then no one can ! :P

  • i wonder if the chimp would hurt me if i cept fucking him up pressing the wrong numbers using the same computer

  • let's see if he can still be this fast backwards.

  • It's because of all the fluoride added to our water supply causes neurological damage.

  • @leapingfury thats correct yes along with murcury in the vaccines and gmo foods its eugentics but most people are to brainwashed to figure it all out

  • @eminemforlifenoshit I think your tinfoil hat is screwed on too tightly.

  • @tehinfidel haha i think otherwise mate,

  • 2nd time I got 9! hooshah! I beat the chimp! (I am 14)

  • i could do it at half speed, but that chimp's the bomb! He makes me feel undeserving of apples...

  • u got it worng, we memorise it too the problem is to bring that info to our conscience. There was a similar study were it was shown 4 neutral faces and it roundomly appeard a happy or sad face, in a factal second, most chimps get it right and humans worng, but then the sientists shout down with an iman a part of the human brain(on the back of the head), then the human tested could tell the position and the face that apeard but didnt remember to see it, intresting.

  • in english iman = magnet

  • I got up to 9 on my second try :D

  • That's scary that an Asian kid gets trumped by an ape.

  • it is proven that chimps achieve this by retaining the 'image of the screen' (like taking a photograph of the screen), instead of memorizing position of individual numbers

such 'photographic' memory is very useful skill in navigating / living / obtaining food in the jungle

  • @KillerCheebo I'm a chimp. I did this game on the first try with 10 correct. Actually it's pretty easy to do it. The darker the room the brighter the m,onitor the better. Darken your room and brighten your monitor, you will do it on first try. Do the following, press circle, numbers appear on screen close eyes immediately. Draw pattern with your hand from lowest to highest digit. Open eyes draw pattern by clicking the boxes. Voila problem solved. Repeat 10 times. You are smarter than chimp.

  • mind=blown How in the world?

  • The day is coming, the day when Earth shall become the Planet of the Apes!!!!!! Lol. :-)

  • i played it for like an hour and finally got a 7 on lumosity lol

  • @animals0feel1pain2

my highest ig ot is 10

  • times for ape's civilization

  • See I knew it... Chimpanzees are smarter than black people...and any animal is smarter than people from texas...

  • Comment removed

  • @zombiesecurity Being the president of the united states doesn't have anything to do with how intelligent you are... Bush was an idiot, he got elected twice.

  • Ya right that chimp has been doing this for months probably. A kid that just started wouldn't keep up. Let's have a kid play this for few months and see who's faster.

  • @SilverSkySE Way to go dude... you are an idiot.

  • @PokerVertigo Way to go dude...you are a troll. A suckish one at that.

  • Hey chimp, I might not be as smart as you, BUT I HAVE POUNDS AND POUNDS OF DELICIOUS FOOD available to me in my FRIDGE!!!

  • hHALF A RAISIN?? WHAT TYPE OF SJIT IS THAT? LOL

  • two words: PINEAL GLAND.

  • The game in the video description isn't the same as the chimp's, though; it's easier, as it only tests you on 5 numbers rather than 8 or 9 as seen in the video.
