  • you know somewhere at some point the stars came together and he must have had a solo spot that went un recorded that was more mind blowin than this

  • this guy is quite good on the guitar!

this is nuts, fuck, this man is an artist!

  • 3:50 is little guitars

  • 3:50

Is this from part of a song? I've heard him playing it live at different times but i don't know if it's from a studio recorded song

  • One of the best solo I ever seen!!! Speechless!!!

  • Simply the god of guitar...

One question.. When he starts the little guitars intro.... How does he do the fast picking thing!? He just uses his wrist and it floats over the strings like nothing.. Anyone know?

  • @EliCurrent It's hard as hell to do man. I found it easer that if you put your hand next to the fine tuners on your floyd, kahler, edge, etc. it makes it a lot easier. When you need to palm mute just simply slide your hand over. It takes a little while to get used to but once you get it down there's nothing to it

  • @EliCurrent dude i just kinda figured it out by watching a different video, go and watch the live without a net version from new haven in 1986, and go to about 4:30

  • Amazing. Just f***ing amazing.

  • This, gentlemen...This is TRUE art!

  • how does he do that? 03:24

  • @TheInvalidChronicles it's a delay effect. thats why when it's about 3:34 you here an echo. It's pretty obvious when he kicks it in

  • Awesome!

  • I had no idea they had wireless guitars in 1982. Wow! Must go back to my History of the World book.

  • Saw them 3 times back then, for Women And Children First and for 1984, but this tour, Diver Down was by far my favorite cuz i was standin' right in front of him watching him do this kind of thing. Man those were the days!! Btw, i have one of his black and yellow guitars from the second album, (i got it from a roadie) but i have no way of proving it. When you hear it and play it, you KNOW it's his!! Miss these days a lot!! What a great response to a 2007 video!! Thanks for this!!

  • that smile. Eddie is awesome.

  • i hate to sound like an old fart but.......you just don't see guitarists play like this anymore. i was a big VH fan until 1984. although not my favorite band you just can't help but rock out when an older VH song comes on.

  • @JubeProductions

Eddie was one of a kind. There was no one like him before or since.

  • are his highest frets a teeny -bit scalloped? look at around 2:37

  • @headlesssoldier Yeah, they definitely are.

  • Kickass!!

  • you fuck! this is largo 1982 and is not rare....what a fucking moron....are you a newbie or what!

  • hey i remember when this came out!!!!! I have this on cassette do you beleive that. I love it!!!!

  • This man changed music....

  • @Thecoinvideos WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!

  • This man was meant to be a guitar god. Can you imagine Ed selling cars or working behind a desk?

  • lol, the things people use to wear, but simply amazing!

  • willy wanka

  • @CatchinProjection More like Albert Einstein

  • @Sean2592 nothing on this video reveals anything special I can see. Ed wanks around in a circle.

  • @CatchinProjection It's no secret that Ed, however you want to put it borrowed or stole a lot of stuff from a lot of different people and put his own mix on it. But when it comes to tap harmonics like at 5:30 seconds to the trill slide stuff done at 10:21 he's definitely unique. And you know unlike the majority of the artists the only thing used here was some delay. And its very transparent when turned on. Nothing special? I'd really like to see someone else do better (including you)

  • @Sean2592 its was all fine and dandy, back when, and had us kids playing something other than "Smoke on the Water" or "Stairway" but Ed's noodling reached its zenith with Beat It and was a gimmick when he crammed it into Jump. I never really felt in the mood to just sit around and wank out lots of random stuff a la Eruption, this has no place in the soundtrack of my life, which is why I keep asking its fans what this is good for in theirs? Once, twice every few months, then enough...

  • @CatchinProjection your right i mean i dunno why but i mean it's just like when he switched the Peavey 5150's in 1984/85 everything changed for the worse. As far as eruption goes, the only thing i care for in the studio is what he does with the delay at the end of it. But he's successful, i'm not, and he did a lot of other great things. I had the upmost respect for him but anymore that shit's old

  • @Sean2592 If and when he and his crew come up with something catchy and/or autobiographical I'll be the among the first to give it a listen, but I'm not gonna accept anyones wankery as THE gospel anymore.

  • Thanks MetalHead5023. Great footage!

  • if you got it , flaunt it

  • 1:20 he just jizzed... i know i did after first minute of this thats for damn sure!!

  • And wow those are some hot tubes!!!

  • Seeing this in HD is awesome man thanks a lot.

  • His calculated feed back was in key!!!!!!

  • There are those that love Him, and those that hate Him. Only one fact remains... Edward is King! Yes, even now. I have faith the new VH, will produce some good material. (fingers crossed) ROCK ON!!!

  • THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER THAT EVER LIVED

  • Amazing to watch the master at the top of his game!

  • This is by far one of the best ones I have seen. Eddie is ripped and is ripping. The tapping intro to meanstreet is putting me into a trance. Amazing. What show is this. Right at 5:19 it's on....:)

  • @wickrip This show took place in Baltimore in 1982. Eddie knew before the show he would be filmed. You can tell by how he looks at the camera. I haven't seen this video anywhere else. I'm glad you like it.

  • @wickrip this is the Diverdown tour from 1982. If you like this then you will really like the Live without a Net solo spot in my estimation nothing comes close from any player and Eddie will do well to keep doing the same or building on the same solo from this era unless he can reinvent himself with new material/instrumentals.

  • 03:25 HOW DOES HE DO THAT

  • one of the reasons why i picked up the guitar in the first place. and as far as well know guitarists go, he's got to be one of the last to use the guitar for all you can get out of one. running scales/modes and knowing the chords is great but there's so much you can get out of a guitar with nothing but a cable and an amp.

and it would be fantastic if they could pick up where 1984 left off.

  • Great stuff. Here's to them picking up where 1984 left off.

  • does anyone have tabs for this. lol

  • THX for putting this up. AWESOME

  • This is amazing! The cameraman must've been a guitar player. Thank You for the close ups of his style.

  • @Sashabooboo This my favorite Eddie Van Halen video. It captures his talen when he was in his prime. I'm glad you liked it.

  • wankage at it's best!

  • this seriously needs more views...

  • @FischKopfD Any recommendations? I'm new to youtube. Could find any good videos to respond too that will get the word out on this vid. Thanks!

  • @MetalHead5023 Thanks for the HD option really makes a difference on these old videos

  • Awesome
