BOOOOOO!!! Any man who makes a public apology for a wrong is a wuss. What a loser. IM SO ANGRY!!!!!Everyone knows DR. Dawkins made a very intensive search for God through out the infinite universe and didnt find him. These spiritual jack offs make me so mad I want to punch puppies.
Science and religion are not two different "world-views". Science is a method for exploring and explaining the physical world, in which we all live. A religious person may jump from a tall building in the sincere belief that angels will lift him up to heaven, but in fact he will fall to the ground like everyone else. Any reality that may or may not exist beyond the physical world cannot be known but only speculated upon. Metaphysical beliefs are based on faith or authority, science is not.
Although some of us don't agree with his religious beliefs we must all agree that what he said in the video described the humanity in all people that are caring and are sincere in making the world a happier place.

I can't believe the negative comments. I don't care what your worldview is, if you have the humility to accept criticism and to admit when you are wrong, that's an admirable trait. It was good of Chopra to do this.

Right at the end of the Chopra/O'Reilly exchange, Chopra describes Stephen Hawking as "my collaborator". I cannot find that Hawking and Chopra have collaborated on any project, but he (Chopra) does not withdraw this claim in his apology to Richard Dawkins. Can anyone help me here - have Chopra and Hawking collaborated on any project and, if so, what?
Dawkins is not your worst critic he probebly is your best critic. Furthermore your description if your 'worldview' is non-sensical. That's to say you seem to just string words together in the hope they mean something. They don't. Be honest to yourself.
Deepak is trying to make a point that his spirituality is more powerful than Dawkins. On the surface, a humble and deeply religious transformation has occurred. He has seen the LIGHT? Deepak took this moment to reiterate his views 3 times, before reminding us that he is not here, to express his views, except when, he expressed his views (3x) in this video. This video is an "attempted upstaging" to get off the point that Deepak sells unproven/non-evidenced-based, metaphysical, medicine?/advice.
That was impressive Mr Deepak. I tip my hat and respect anyone who admits their own faults and even more so when they are a person in the limelight and do it publicly.
That is a nice adult reaction by Deepak. Emotions can easily cause our judgment to become clouded. Happens to everybody but not everybody is willing to admit it when they are wrong. Insight into your own limitations it the door to better understanding.
Then take science out of your books, deepak. Science is just telling how thing work in the physical. Thats it! Spiritualty is all about seeing a greater part in our selves. Just stick to spiritual words traditionally like osho and the dalai lama and you will be better.
Well said Deepak. I hope that people who find comfort and or support in the words of either of you come to the right conculsions about these understandings and evidences. Evolutionary biology and spiritualism are not antithetical to one another.
It takes great courage to admit when you have made a mistake. I may not agree with your philosophy, but I admire and respect your honesty and moral courage.
Richard Dawkins is an over opinionated bigoted self absorbed "Religious" zealot. sorry to anger his devout followers, but its time you put the flying spaghetti monster in the pot, cook & eat it and taste for your self what complete crap it is. and to make this clear to all of the Dawkins Devotees, this is not an argument for or against god or creationism, - I'm pointing out it is another form of religion, Deepak is calling Dickie out on that point in his apology.
@AfterFauve001 Are you insane? Do you understand what a religion is? What the difference between blind faith and a tested, educated, reasoned position is?
@dabomb1357 don't humour @AfterFauve001. Can't you see he is just a troll, who just wants an argument for the sake of it. He's trying to get a reaction from anyone.
@dabomb1357@dabomb1357 Tested, educated reasoned position? Dawkins has more catch phrases and logic fallacy ridden pathological brain droppings then a Sunday morning televangelist . 2 literal minded evangelical sides locked into a pointless debate over who's pulpit is to be the ultimate thought police. A truly sad aspect of this is his own wife ripped that mentality a new one in Destiny of the Daleks. watch?v=qvR5Z0xnmRQ
@AfterFauve001 UR OPINION, WHICH IS I'M THANKFUL IS "NOT" THE MAJORITY VOTE FOR RD....100% FOR SCIENCE AND "PROVING" BULLSHIT THEORIES INSTEAD OF TALKING AROUND IN CIRCLES AND AVOIDING WHEN YOU "MIGHT BE" IN ERROR...
@MrSilicon605 Dawkins has been called out on a great deal of bullshit by John Lennox, Neil Degrasse Tyson, and worse of all he got owned by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Reductionism is not science, its a means of explaining science. Dicky turned it into a religion with plenty of emotionally insecure brain washed masses to follow him like a god. I've read the God delusion its nothing but "TALKING AROUND IN CIRCLES" but he's worse than being in error , he's a conman.
A handsome apology. If only the nasty Bill O'Reilly had similar qualities as this. I sense you regret being drawn along with his hysterical hatred of non religious people.
Good. Quantum healing is the first book I read of yours. It seemed to me interesting; true or not I think it's pretty. When I saw you react emotionally in the documentary I was a bit disappointed... however, even the best cook burns the soup sometimes. To be able to recognize one's mistake and to gladly embrace criticism are attributes of the strong, no one can take that away from you. Good job!
If, truthfully, the purpose of this video is to apologize and not to defend your world view, just make the apology and let it stand. Honestly, you sound like a child that has been scolded and told to apologize.
Even though I disagree with your world view %100, I have great respect for your character and your mind, wisdom, positive philosophies and motivations..
I'm sure this looks good for him and his followers probably think he's great for coming out and admitting he shouldn't have been like that on Fox news but unless he goes back on Bill O'Reily's show and makes a full apology there- this means very little. Fox news watchers arent' going to see this.
Although I would not agree with your world-view, I believe your apology is sincere and I respect you for admitting to your errors, after all no one is perfect. It takes lots of courage to be able to do this is public. Bravo again!
If you base anything in faith, and I mean anything, you are throwing yourself off a cliff. If you believe something just because you think it sounds right, or you have a pleasant emotional reaction when you think about it, does not make it so. Dawkins takes the factual stance since, as human beings living in this world, they are all we have. You can assume whatever the fuck you want about our consciousness, but it does not make it any more true until we know for sure.
Richard Dawkins was just stating the facts about medical cures that make extordinary claims. Why not address that issue directly instead of apologizing for your boorish statements on the BO show. I really want to know if your peddled cures are REAL and not your capacity to express empathy.
"Misrepresented"so eloquently put. Is this an "apology" to make yourself feel better? or do you wish to get your apology across to your target and let him aknowledge that you assume the wrong you did. DID you really mean it? , you are to take everything that you publicly said, each and every statement and argument it.Did Richard Dawkins really "ambush" you? Did you really "kick his butt" ? Is he really "prejudiced and a bigot"? Did he front credentials to prove a point?
As an anti-theist/skeptical/atheist I found this video surprisingly genuine. This is how you make an apology.
I disagree, fundamentally, with Deepak's view on life - especially his thoughts about consciousness - but have found my respect for him as a person increase dramatically after watching this.
You would be hard pressed to find a Christian or Islamic fundamentalist issuing an apology such as this.
How about admitting that Richard Dawkins is right and that your stuff is crap and fraudulent. That should bring even better peace to your mind. Richard dawkins always stated that quantum conciousness is something that no one can understand.
I'm actually embarrassed to admit that I gave serious thought to describing U any other way. Yet my fingers literally wouldn't allow me to type any words;but those.
Your ilk disgust me. A man ask for forgiveness & U receive them with trailer-park grace?
Whether U subscribe to his beliefs (which btw I don't) isn't pertinent. The man apologized for being human & loosing his cool.
Expecting him to give up his livelihood is insane.
@farronx Forgiveness, HUH?? If you saw the documentary that Dawkins narrated you will realize that Chopra basically FOOLs people to believe that "quantum conciousness" can cure people. Most people (about 99.99999%) don't understand quantum mechanics well enough to know that Chopra is a fraud and that his "Cure" has NO scientific basis. Would you ACCEPT and PAY for a medical treatment that you CAN'T understand?? You would be INCREDIBLY stupid to do that.
I saw the "documentary" & that wasn't my take nor was it the point of my post to U.
People are going to believe what they need to believe for various reasons. That's the beauty of free will. If 1man has that much power over so many then good for him. Doesn't mean U & I are equally captivated.
He apologized for his actions.
Who amongst us is so arrogantly righteous not to accept an apology; You?
@farronx I suppose the "forgiveness" is really to express to people (other than Richard Dawkins) that Chopra is really a man of science and good to his sacred word, and not a conniving business man out to suck money out of gullibility. He is after all very successful at doing the latter. I do admire his capacity to forgive, and not surprising considering how boorish he appeared on the BO'really show.
@farronx Free will? I see no proof in genetics and social conditioning of free will. A human being cannot change their DNA and we now know that basic human traits and even tastes are being found to have a genetic link. It is more likely that we are living in a deterministic world and not one with free will. You cannot change your need to be ambitious or even lazy as they may well be genetic.
Seemingly you've used the term "free will" in a broader context than what were my intentions. I simply meant that Ur free to choose to believe in science & or a God.
Though I'd think that being aware of "social conditioning's" would be the 1st step to exercising my free will. Sure we change our needs, genetics doesn't dictate to that.
U reserve hope for "fox news watchers"? I respectfully don't think that D.Chopra,God or science can help them see truth on any fronts.
@Andrewlohbihler "How about admitting that Richard Dawkins is right and that your stuff is crap and fraudulent."!!
That can ONLY HAPPEN when something called "EVIDENCE" is provided for the FAIRY TALES of EVOLUTIONARY SCIENCE!!! Evolution is a FACT BUT "HOW" (be it through Darwinism or Punctuated Equillibrium or the Human Genome Project) is still a MYTH and NOT a FACT!!! The "DEVIL" always lies in the DETAILS (read as "THEORIES")!! So, how about accepting BOTH of them are CRAP to be OBJECTIVE?!!
@rationalindian10 Hey MORON, if you saw the documentary, you will see that Dawkins was talking about Peepak's theory of quantum conciousness and medicine for his patients, is a grand version of SNAKE OIL. Deepak never publically "explained" his understanding of quantun physics to make his "medicine" credible. He can't because NOBODY can. This has nothing to do with evolution, although it sounds like you are a MORON in that category too.
@XYZInteractive Your comment: "Deepak never publically "explained" his understanding of quantun physics to make his "medicine" credible. He can't because NOBODY can"!!!
1. I know that Deepak Chopra is a CON.
2. I am NOT AGAINST EVOLUTION but only against EVOLUTIONARY THEORIES (be it Darwinian Theory of AFRICAN MIGRATION or Stephen Jay GouldINIAN theory of Punctuated Equillibrium) due to LOGICAL DEFICIENCIES.
@warren52nz So, you and your HIGH-SCHOOL TEACHERS are 100% SURE that Darwin is God and his THEOLOGY is GOSPEL TRUTH?!!! I just wonder whether you and folks of YOUR KIND have a "TIME MACHINE" through which you travelled and collected your "EVIDENCES" for the "EVOLUTIONARY STAGES" of various species (including humans) to be so DAMN SURE instead of just looking at the BONES and "THEORETICIZING" how it "MIGHT" have happened instead of it "ACTUALLY" happened!!!
Darwin was not a God, he was a human. By the way, it's spelled "theorizing", and the archaeological remains clearly indicate a drawn-out transformation from our lesser-evolved ancestors to what we are today (you can thank radiometric dating methods for the timeline they've provided). How can you possibly call yourself rational when you ignore visible proof? And why do you CAPITALIZE your words as if you're a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER? Go back to the GOTHAM CITY streets, BATMAN.
@TheSonorama21 Ur comment: " How can you possibly call yourself rational when you ignore visible proof? And why do you CAPITALIZE your words as if you're a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER?"
1. Thanks for the correction.
2. I will believe in RADIOMETRIC DATING or other DATING TECHNIQUES only when there is an INFALLIBLE DATING TECHNIQUE(s) available for determining PRECISE AGE of either the LIVING or the DEAD whose AGE we are aware of. Till then, NEANDERTHAL=BATMAN=FICTION!
@TheSonorama21 FUNDAMENTAL RULE of Science is "REVERSE ENGINEERING". DATING TECHNIQUES fail in this FUNDAMENTAL RULE because the ONLY PROOF for DATING TECHNIQUES (RADIOCARBON DATING to be precise) to work is the validation of an 1850 BC Egyptian MUMMIFIED WOOD (hbar . phys . msu . ru /gorm/fomenko/libby.htm) which NO DAMN 3850 year old FUCKIN SOUL can CONFIRM except for NODDING the head like DANCING BUDDHA!!!
Could we please DATE something whose age we are AWARE OF and confirmed about?
What a sound conclusion that is. You're just spitting on the tried and true methods of archaeological dating. The article you linked to only confirms the invaluable role which tree-ring dating plays in the field.
The only thing you're "STRESSING" here is yourself.
@TheSonorama21 Your comment: "You can't live with a margin of error?
....You're just spitting on the tried and true methods of archaeological dating."!!
1. I NEVER believe in margion of error (even 0.0000000001%) when the THEORY is WRONG!!!
2. Do you have a PROPER TECHNIQUE or do you have something to defend yourself?!!!!! I DONT believe in an INFINITE LENGTH TONGUE which keeps FLAPPING AROUND!!!!
@warren52nz Your comment: ""Yes. Yes we have..... watch that video and then STFU! watch?v=w5369-OobM4&feature=channel"!!!!
1. I am just curious: Are you a GOEBBELIAN ("If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.") by any chance?!!!!
2. Could you PLEASE TELL ME THE AGE OF MY GRAND-FATHER or even MY AGE who died quite sometime back with your INFALLIBLE DATING TECHNIQUE intead of the so-called MILLIONS and MILLIONS of YEARS "HOCUS POCUS"??!!
@TheSonorama21 Your comment: "You're just spitting on the tried and true methods of archaeological dating."!!!
I am not trying to be rigid here but only questioning the validity of not just the dating methods (which I concede many others have already done) but dont understand why there are NO DATING TECHNIQUES available for determining the age of something that we are aware of. My only point of contention is: Why not REVERSE ENGINEER? Atleast the dating techniques will have more validity then.
@rationalindian10I HOPE YOU ARE NOT A CRIMINAL investigator BECause IF YOU ALWAYS HAD TO be THERE when CRIMES ACTuaLLy HAPPENED you would SUCK MONKEY BALLS and never SOLVE A CASE!!!
@warren52nz Your comment: "Science doesn't have to witness everything to know it happened. In fact I'll ask you! Where you there when Mohammed talked to Allah???"!!!!
I MASTURBATED on the HOLY PORN BOOK aka HOLY COMIC BOOK aka HOLY TERROR MANUAL called the HOLY QURAN. Would you like to taste my DIVINE WHITE DROPLETS that I blessed the Quran with??!!
Haha. An apology for "both my television appearances and my written criticism of him." Well, since it was clearly a one time, heat of the moment type incident - and not a clear pattern of behavior - I'm sure your YouTube "sorry" video will be taken seriously.
Do not ever follow up such a bullshit apology immediately with an equivalency argument, by the way. Your nonsensical blithering is nothing like empirical science and doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. A fraud for the ages.
It's admirable that you, Chopra, are apologizing for your error, but what really surprised me is that you lost your cool to begin with. I always believed you were beyond such offenses and had the capacity to address Dawkin's disagreements with greater equanimity than he. You spend so much time and energy studying the wisdom of the spiritual traditions but they seem to have lost their power in you when someone criticizes your work. What happened, Deepak? I thought you knew better.
Interesting how critical comments often contain swear words. Deepak you have played an intregal part in my spiritual development and I will be forever grateful. Thank you
I disagree with your fundamental views and I used to dislike you greatly. After this apology I have gained a respect for you though I still disagree with your views
You're only Human Deepack. When two people enthusiastically engage in conversation and you both are of the same world view, it is easy to get carried away, remain impartial. Bill O' Reilly was kind of feeding your enthusiasm. Both you and Dawkins are brilliant minds, the world is a better place with you both in it ...and both respecting each other.
deepak you are just about the biggest dumb ass on the face of the planet. Every talk you give makes the human species that bit dumber. Please shut the f up and spare humanity your stupidity.
I saw your interview with Bill. And I think this was very big of you. I disagree with your world view, entirely, but I have certainly gained respect for you.
I don't see why people are being so nasty. I have to say I think more of Chopra for having done this. There is always more than one side to a person, and though I don't respect Chopra's professional views, I respect him as a person a little more now. Being nasty to someone you don't agree with (this is his personal youtube channel after all) isn't a very noble thing to do is it? And it doesn't really help your argument.
i think Dawkins is more about the argument about facts, whereas you may be more or less talking about our spiritual sense. I own books by both of you, and in a world of corruption and deciet, you two are the last two people i worry about.
@Dirkschneider it does take balls but I think he did it more for himself as he stated in this video and to protect his image. It would be more appropriate if he did it on the O'Reilly show.
@themax316 Possibly. But I still find it respectful and hopeful. Most of the time the whole debate feels so totally locked without any room for apologies or change of opinions. This video made me feel a bit fuzzy inside.
Anybody can make up anything about the interconnection of the inner workings of the human mind and mysterious unobservable supernatural forces - and make a hell of a lot of money doing it by gathering a following of idiots and subhumans who love shitting their money away. It takes zero skill or effort. You just have to be lucky enough to have morons like Oprah give you free air time.
Well, religious people ARE silly idiots. And I would like to see an active "serious scientist" who "believes in supernatural". That would be a "muslim ho" or something. Well, Nash was nuts. All people get sick. Scientists are no exclusion. But they don't normally (sic!) believe in god in 21st century. (Well, anyone can CALL himself a "scientist".)
Well done Dr Chopra - even though what you said with O'Reilly was not offensive in my view (although I personally don't agree with your worldview). Unfortunately this debate has become a nasty business in many cases - ad hominem attacks and by both theists and athiests. Hopefully your gesture here will be respected and reciprocated elsewhere.
Took some courage to publicly give an apology, don't see that kind of thing very often these days without getting pushed into it. I have some small shred of respect for Chopra now.
(*If only we could get this guy to see the world without the supernatural, now that would be a victory. ;}
@oscar45515 Are you saying "well done" to the comment that "Atheism kills"? If so, may I suggest that you haven't really applied your mind to the concept. Atheism (defined correctly) has never killed anyone. The implication that religion -correctly defined, if you will- is all lovey and peaceful, may be true. Problem is there are many definitions of theism which condone murderous activity, and it's very hard to convince a crusader -peacefully- that his religion needs redefining.
@kelco93 Hi Kelco, I take your point, if one thinks that the writings in scripture/ Bible are all fuzzy and cuddly.
As a Christian, I for one would be the first to say that parts of it should be 'X' rated!.
However, again as a believer in the finished work on the Cross, do believe that the very fact of one being an athiest will ultimately lead to ones Eternal death. That was my thinking behind my statement "athiesm kills" OK! hope so.
@oscar45515 Thanks. That puts it in a context where it fits - if you want to provide 'full disclosure' you will have to admit that an atheist is more likely to share your moral principles than the kind of theist who who believes in, say, capital punishment, stoning homosexuals or shooting abortion doctors. I can't accept that such theists are Christians (correctly defined) because they are not following the teachings of Jesus. So it not just atheism but 'wrong' theism which 'kills'.

I really liked your presentation in this video.
I have HATED MOST of what you have said/produced due to:
1) None of it having ANY support beyond wild speculation (which can't be called support).
2) It has caused many people to stay or be delusional
3) It distorts what is known to make it harder for people to learn - this was the WORST!
4) You didn't seem to care and/or understand the harm you were doing

If you base anything in faith, and I mean anything, you are throwing yourself off a cliff. If you believe something just because you think it sounds right, or you have a pleasant emotional reaction when you think about it, does not make it so. Dawkins takes the factual stance since, as human beings living in this world, they are all we have. You can assume whatever the fuck you want about our consciousness, but it does not make it any more true until we know for sure.

Colleen219 2 weeks ago
@Colleen

That was my thinking behind my statement "athiesm kills" OK! hope so.
oscar45515 3 weeks ago
@oscar45515 Thanks. That puts it in a context where it fits - if you want to provide 'full disclosure' you will have to admit that an atheist is more likely to share your moral principles than the kind of theist who who believes in, say, capital punishment, stoning homosexuals or shooting abortion doctors. I can't accept that such theists are Christians (correctly defined) because they are not following the teachings of Jesus. So it not just atheism but 'wrong' theism which 'kills'.
