I love your vids. I also love that you make a mistake once in a while, even though you could have edited it out. Hey you're honest and "real" with us, that's awesome. It makes you even better I think.
Thank you soooo much for all you give to us. Knowledge is like wealth, and you make us richer by your giving.
Personally the lighting on her face is basically blown out and overexposed. not sure if thats the look you're going for (not that you would) but ya, thats how it looks to me bud.
Good video with good style, Greg. Short and to the point--and you had your comments planned out ahead of time (at least it seemed so). The umbrella used as fill on the shadow side, that was without a flash, just as a reflector, is that correct? I like that, sometimes flat reflectors are a pain to position and hold where you want them.
Great video and perfectly timed once again. I just started accumulating pieces to my own studio set up, and as a beginner, it's hard to know which setups are the best or widely used. This outlines it perfectly (after seeing the diagram on the website of course).
You are building quite the empire here, you realize this right? You're gonna be the Bob Ross of photography. FRO FTW.
Hey Jared, quick question. When you are taking photos, do you have preset contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc, levels in your camera or do you leave all that at neutral and adjust them in Lightroom only? The Canon DSLR's have "picture style" options with preset contrast, etc, for different environments like portrait, and landscape. Should I leave those settings at neutral in the camera and adjust all that in Lightroom or adjust some of it in the camera and more in Lightroom? Thanks.
Greg do you have your own channel? Love your vids, keep them coming. However in this example, I personally thought that the light was a little to harsh, couldn't see much detail in her face and skin tones were washed out a little.
@JaredPolin I meant more as in video Strobox diagrams. I end up watching 90% of these videos on the iPhone as I'm constantly on the road. I've been signed up on the website for quite a while now.
I bought me a three-piece continuous umbrella lighting kit. I need to play around with it more, its not amazing at about $175, but its a good starter kit.
I'm into portraiture and actually liked the one with 1 light better, I personally think that the face on the second, third, fourth images were a bit whited out, and there wasn't a lot of detail there, it was almost all just white.
I prefer natural skin tones and a softbox with either a silver or gold foil reflector is a brilliant way to go for this.
Something that you may use to help teach this better is to use a format like the diagrams on Strobox. I could definitely learn even more that way, as I'm sure others could too.
Hello, I plan on buying my first DSLR (Nikon D3100) this Friday, I'm extremely stoked about it! And I have watched a lot of your videos and have learned a lot, thank you! But I do have a couple of questions with lighting.
1. Can you make a video about how to do proper lighting? For example, how to angle the lights, stuff like that? I would really appreciate it. :D
2. Like @AlTyler138 asked, what is the main difference between shooting with an umbrella and a soft box?
i would really like to see fashion lighting setups vs just portrait lighting setups..and i would really like to hear more bout different light modifiers like beauty dishes, ring flash, bulb reflectors, octabox's strip boxes

@JaredPolin
ah, understandable. Really kinda throws off the image though for the viewers...Great lighting diagrams though, those are very helpful.
Cheers dude.

Greg, Jared, When using FLASH, do you guys ever use a light meter, or is it all trial and error? If so, would you guys add that to the FLASH lesson?
Keep up the good work.

Greg, do you recommend buying an SB 600 for the D3100 or saving more money for the SB 900?

I like it Greg, make it look so easy yet it must be hard to get the lighting right
Have you guys ever thought of putting these on DVD's for a small price to cover costs and make some money for the Fro Website?
Once again Kudos to you Greg!

Love the video Greg... but in this specific case, I think it's too much light in the face, it lost some details.. how to fix one situation like this?
