If the mode used is improving the psychology and "utility" of the individual it is a good thing. If it is used for personal gain without regard for the effects on other people (which are basically unquantifiable) and it hurts their psychology and lessens their "utility" to the better good of everyone in their life it is bad. Everyone responds to these types of stimuli differently. It's an individual journey.

SELF HELP? or SELF HURT? i can say that...what you think in both way you are absolutely right...."you are what you thinketh." For me what you believe in is the most important is the way you apply it...Truely there is a great secret in the world...and that is within our reach...all we have to do is to find and search it within. That secret gives you "Great Power" but it is our responsibilities as God's creation to use it the way God used it in a "ARTISTIC" way...and "Art" is to "Create." -EDWARD-
Humans are funny hey....the search for something higher than ourselves so we can put our trust or faith in something and not blame ourselves for our failures...or successes...something keeps this planet spinning, floating in space...there is a life force that makes the grass grow etc...I think people just want to know that someone is looking out for them and someone will love them no matter what...I say it's time for us Humans to start helping each other..we can do wonderful things to help us.
You know what's misguided.. the poster of this video if they think this is objective or relevant.. your clips don't actually show the author's opinions other than those speaking devoutly about religion... .. the only debate this brings up is whether or not i shoudl flag this video for being biased and misleading in it's topic
I would like to understand the point of this video a little better because I feel that it isn't very clear. If this is an attack on self help then I would argue that religion in a sense is self help. When do most people turn to religion? In times of crisis. They read a book that helps them find purpose and meaning in life. Same thing in self help books. Becoming self-reliant, a better person, and aware of your actions doesn't mean you have to abandon your religion. Open your mind a little.
@NoosesGive you can either live your dreams or live your excuse. Those people that are commited to live their dreams never allow themselves to see the negative in things. If you don't try hard enough to focus your energy in a positive direction...you just didn't try hard enough. It's easy to think sloppily, it's easy to blame circumstances, it's easy to find fault with everything, but it takes practice to align yourself with the spirit within you. And I tell you it's well worth it :)
Lots of self-help has NOTHING to do with religion and is there to improve peoples lives, not change their thoughts on god. Once again religion takes itself too seriously
Tony is absolutely right about emotion being the motivation in life. Scientific studies now show and can pinpoint exactly where emotion is created in the brain, and that is the cerebellum. They found this part of the brain to be completely inactive in those who are unmotivated. For example: Some people have to clean their home to music. The music creates emotion and that emotion gives the motivation to do whatever you need to do. This is called external motivation.
@kaisersoce07 emotions are related to brain parts and hormones but that's just the effect, not the cause. You can create a positive feeling through thinking thoughts that feel good (like thinking about your cat). This thought doesn't have it's origin in the brain, but in the environment. You don't store your thoughts neither your emotions in your body. They are just indicators of certain energy patterns. x) love = you're getting warmer; anything else than that = you are getting colder :l choose
Personal development, self help works for those that are motivated about it. if you are not motivated or dont' care to self improve, then you won't develop. There are tons of personal development methods and all are not in books. Like, rding a bicycle is personal development, becoming a pro at it and becoming a cyclist professionaly, you are now a master.
All of these principles are spoken of in the bible, Tony teaches them in his tapes. "as a man thinketh so shall he be" that is the basic foundation of all his doctrine. Give credit where credit is due.
I'm going to chose my own way, tony robbins has helped me, and if you don't like it you can kiss my ass, and FYI god gave ME the choice, so stop fucking sooking!
Gratitude puts you in harmoney with the Universe<- Write a Gratitude list daily (be grateful for what you have and be grateful for whats comming)
Meditation connects you to Universal Intelligence<- This is a must, connect with your inner self, obtain a good relationship with your inner being-Spirit.
Just these 2 things added into any one's life will keep them in a great Vibration!
Thing is a lot of the women admire oprah, cause she is so respected and it seems to them that everything that comes out of
her mouth might seem good to them!
But this shows, how naive, and foolish
human beings are in general! Just because something seems good, it doesn't necessarily mean its good! Why are we humans sooo foolish! I truly believe they shouldn't teach false doctrine!
And that is what oprah and all these selfhelp people are doing!
scientology=rubbish, oprah=rubbish ,secret=rubbish, depak=rubbish, tao te ching=rubbish ,tony robbins=Awesome. There is one way to heaven and that is through Jesus.Acts 17: 26-28 the reason we need jesus is because after sin corrupted our race we would now only live 24hrs Gen 2:17 but we were offered a new heart from jesus in exchange for our old hearts and so he began dying since the beggining of sin to give us time to choose him .The flesh is corrupted Romans 8:1
@clarkemetalstrust - you sure live in a bubble if you truly believe there is only one way to heaven. Kinda reminds me of Bin Ladden who is killing innocent people because he believe the only way to heaven is to submit to Allah. Huh!
Read the bible again,It doesnt mean anything other than if you couldnt live with the sad facts then thats exactly what youd choose for yourself to leave in search of an ego, selfrightousness or beliefs to suit.John 14 : 27. Romans 6: 1-11 .if it reminds you of bin laden then when you are nearest jesus you will reject him and laugh thats what most did do and he wont force you to like him. it just means get on with life but know where it came from .
Dose who intellectualize to much about god dont know im.. and dose who argue on word in the bible if tis true or not what they say in the book .. have not experience god yet!
I like the questions this video poses however that tony robbins excerpt was taken out of context. He does believe in God and does teach that your not ultimately in control and your not guarenteed success. I'm not in agreement with everything he says or does but he presents basic psychological tools in an energizing way.
God doesn't help. The idea of God causes arguments which further lead to disagreements and wars. If he was real he'd of made himself clear from the beginning and would be helping later generations to understand. He's not real. Try logic, questioning and trial and error to become better. Screw the fairy tale rubbish that has not helped humans on Earth at all. Even the Bible you read is heavily edited since it original scribblings... so you blindly believe in the lies written in it.
All these people don't help...its all religious..if you reall want to listen to someone down to earth that will just motivate you to take action listen to Les Brown...his awsome...
As a follower of Jesus Christ, I think it sad that others of the like would put together these types of movies to make it seem like seeking truth is absolute in the text of a cannon of scriptures that was decided by politicians less than 1500 years ago. The term Christian wasn't used until 100s of years after Christ and the cannon of the Bible wasn't decided until 100s of years after that..Seek Truth through all means possible and you will find Love shown by God in Jesus. Nothing else matters.
Satan's first lie in the garden, "you can BE gods yourself" and is still being used today. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus alone. Every other religion or belief is about pride and self-esteem. Christianity is about humility.
Muslims believe human beings are born sinless and are good by nature. Since they don't have a fallen nature, they don't think they need a Savior. They depend on their own efforts to please Allah.
The Koran tells them that the good deeds they do will cancel out the bad deeds (Sura 11:114), but no one knows how many good deeds are enough.
Again like every religion, Islam relies on self-(works,deeds) to get into heaven, "become apart of the divine", "liberation", "Nirvana", etc.
Christianity isn't about happiness. In fact you could very well live a more miserable life as a Christian. Jesus assured there will be trials and tribulation. Christianity is about truth. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". He was either right or wrong.
As for the last comment, I agree there is a lot of hypocrisy in Christianity, but that shouldn't turn you away from finding out if Jesus was right.
You wrote "And I agree, Jesus was right, just like the rest were because they were all saying the same thing."
But Jesus did not say the same thing. He was constantly telling people to turn from their evil deeds (repent) and believe in the gospel. Jesus said he's the only way. Not buddha, not allah, only him, exclusively. So what he said has to be either true or false.
As for Jesus saying "the kingdom of God is within", you have to understand the greek, and the context..(continued in next..
In this verse(Luke 17:21) "within" comes from the greek word "entos". When this word is used with a plural noun, "entos" means "among" or "in the midst of". And in this verse Jesus was answering a group of Pharisees' question. " He answered THEM and said, "For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." So a better translation would be "The kingdom of God is in the midst of you"....(cont.
He explains to his disciples later in verse 30 what he meant by that. "Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed." Jesus was in fact explaining his second coming.
As for the authenticity of the the bible, it has the most manuscripts, than any other historical book, and it has the shortest time gap from when the events happened to when they were written down. (The New Testament was written about 30 years after Jesus' death). It has more authenticity in manuscripts than Julius Caesar, Cisero, you name it. The most authentic, most reliable book we possess is the New Testament. ....(cont.
If there is something I have learned from all of these people, it is that all of these words are wonderful and allow us to grow and experience our humanity in a far deeper way. We are spiritual beings living human experiences and in the end, you know what I've realised? All these teachings end with God and they started with him too-even if at the time we did not realise it.God sent many more messengers because Jesus never preached more than 30 miles outide of Jerusalem! Now that is a miracle!
Irresponsible is the first word to come to mind. As in some careful editing to adhere to the film makers point. Quoting a 2000 + year old book translated many times over (thereby losing meaning thru loss in translation) at the end...hurts the film makers point. NOT that I agree with all the comments contained therein.
Don't worship them but learn from them. Finally all of have a mind in which to think. It a shame most people don't use it. Anything is possible if you are committed to its outcome. read James 3 vs 13-17 NIV Peace
I am a Christian and believe Jesus is the way the truth and the light. I also believe each of us have their own path to discover in life. I do not believe in being so prideful that I have all the answers. I don't. Forcing someone to believe a certain way comes from Satan. Free Will is ability to choose for ourselves. Every teacher has something good to teach us.
From my personal experience i find that believing anything or anyone is foolish. I find it much more helpful to pay attention to what everyone is saying and just take it for what it is. Nobody knows what its all about 100% so i will keep my mind open to every possible theory.
@LukeTheFlook i totally agree when you take someones whole entire truth you kind of start using it as an excuse for doing less than you can in your life, the total belief in something else might lead you to neglecting other things in your life. atleast it happened to me, kinda made my anxiety go through the roof :S
@oliveraldama if you have no idea what i just said then how can you be so sure i said nothing? and by the way i quit jerking off for spiritual reasons but thanks for the thumbs up. peace holmes
@LukeTheFlook If your mind is too open then your brain will fall out! If you are open to every possible theory then you are closed to all theories... you have to discern... you discern every day of your life without knowing it.
I salute anyone who is brave enough to find out for themselves what truth really is. Jesus said that he is the truth the way and the life. Through my own life I have found his words to be true. People like to say that religion is old so therefore it must be wrong. God is eternal I think that if he wants us to know the realy truth hed give us that from the beggining. I agree, open your mind to the possibility that Jesus is the truth. he died for you and rose from the dead. He is alive.
Self help is the ONLY help. It takes courage to rise up and take responsibility for where you are, what you are and what you're doing. I don't agree with all of the authors/speakers in this video but I salute any person who is brave enough to think for themselves and turn their backs on out of date religious dogma. It's better to follow your own fake, self made religion that to follow one that's been made by somebody else who lived so far back in time that we don't even know their name!
People make fu nof Tom Cruise, but he is really passionate about something and that is very respectable. He is also a good person(it seems) so People, lay off. He is a public figure that has a private life. He has done more than so many out there! I salute you Tom. Anthony Robbins..I love him!
I don't make fun of Tom Cruise, but I don't like what he says in the early part of this video. With the way he talked about being a Scientologist, he comes off as an elitist. And his claims about them being the authority on mind and improving conditions are (fallacious) appeals to authority. How did they get this authority? Consensus? Inheritance? Did they seize it? Or did they just proclaim it?
Any devil can cite scripture for its purposes. I notice you quoted a letter & a proverb & not from a gospel. Oprah was right; Christ did not come to spark Christianity.
Good tune to it though.

The most authentic, most reliable book we possess is the New Testament. ....(cont.

To say that Jesus is the only way to (to what?) the divine is self-delusional is the very least.

@LukeTheFlook I have no idea to what the fuck you just said? You said nothing and jerk off here and giving you thumbs up.

Hmmm...Tom Cruise seemed a little Nazi-like in his glorification of Scientology.
Thank you, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, etc. You've helped me so much on my path. (especially Dyer)

Here's another one from Timothy...
"I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent." 1 Timothy 2:12
