why don't you haters leave her alone! she is certainly very passionate and committed to an (infinite), as in what can be done or how it's played instrument. i wish i had half of her creativity and articulation. ROCK ON YASI !!!!!!!!!
@toddms68 You expressed my exact thought. she's young and doesn't have any other references, needs to listen to more (and better) music, live and evolve and she'll be great.
You are serious at playing guitar , i like that. I would suggest that you work on the fluidity of your left hand ,try to be more relaxed while playing.Your guitar tone is good .All the best.
That's very good technical ability. As you grow and mature, you'll move beyond guitarist and into musician where you learn the difference collections of notes and music. You have a very bright future ahead of you.
What do you think of the Suhr guitar? How does it compare to the Jem in quality? I hear the quality control on guitars like Suhr, Caparison, and Tom Anderson is pretty high. Is it a lot better than the Jem?
but she play with emotion...i he search some thing in the impro too...but she have an emotional side in her playing...and she play good phrases ...so ...she could be great soon...stop talk shit and enjoy...
I cannot watch this very long, because this has nothing to do with music, only with technique (you are very good technical and im not jealous, im bad). But I feel nothing while listening. My suggestion: Listen to very simple music like ACDC or Colin Hay - Overkill.
In the past i thought its more important that you can play very good. Wrong!
Listen to Nirvana... Ask yourself whats the sense of music: Emotions or Contest?
@musicalbeast soo your definition of music is? Emotion? ...hmm no go grab a dictionary and then try to realize that people don't have to play whatever you want.
@RofICopters I didnt talked about definitions. I talked about sense of music or better about the intension of the artist. I think its music you cannot listen to very long if the intension is not to bring emotions to the listener.
@mikashred Actually, the lack of notes would be silence. Musician types sometimes refer to silences as "rests". To my ear, there are just as many notes as she required, neither more nor less.
@MsWordsMyth- The person to whom you were replying is a guitarist. They don't need a lecture on rests, I'm sure they understand what a rest is. Their comment was obviously tongue in cheek. And I would disagree- she played a lot of unnecessary notes. Too many notes and music becomes arpeggios, too many notes and music devolves into mindless shred.
good work but too much technic and not enough music and groove in my opinion. Big vai influence too. Personnaly, I love steve vai for his amazing compositions. But, unfortunately, he is an awful improvisator. Guthrie govan, alex hutchings, georges benson or greg howe are far better models for improvisations in jazz/rock or blues.
Well, I can tell you this is not a mode that comes natural for me mainly because I didn't spent a lot of time practicing and listening to it when I started in the 80s. Better than I could do if faced with playing a solo to this chord progression at 18 or however old she is at this point. Its good she is willing to push the envelope and even publicly.
Well the playing is good tone is great but its very white lol. i know white is the presence of all colours but its a bit bright lol.looks like maple finger board with jumbo frets.
Your actually SO good, that the first time i didn't even think about your boobs...
The only thing i really can point out, is the sliding and bending, your having a hard time having that section in tune. But that is a hard thing to master when your actually all over the guitar and your mind attend to focus on anything but the guitar... Have fun girl! Hope to see you live in the future :D
Damm Yasi, I Thing I Love you, I love the way you play, the feeling, the tecnique, those taps and sweep are great!. Continue skill upgrading your skill like you has been doing. Stick arround. Greetings.
I liked the little octave displacement thing you had going somewhere around the 4 minute mark, not bad overall. I wish I had the budget for a Suhr guitar x. x... Anywho, if you haven't heard of Tosin Abasi you should check him out. You might like him :D
That was great! Even better to see a young lady take such interest in a male dominated instrument! Well done I really emjoyed that... keep practicing you have real talent!
Your an amazing player, of that theres no doubt. But 2142Ibonez has a point, you have to smile more. :) You played with Steve Vai, anyone watching wouldve loved dearly to be able to play with him. But as the Joker so eloquently put it, "Why so serious?" :)
@MrBac755 i enjoy playing very much, but i dont smile when i play thats just how i feel the music. i dont feel like i need to smile in fact i think that would look arrogant to display the knowledge that you were better than people
@woodros Its arrogant if your not better than the other people and you think you are, or if your better and dont try to help those that are not as good. & I enjoy playing too and for the most part unless it is some insane solo or something, I smile, if only because ive come so far from two years ago
Fan of Guthrie by any chance? some of his 'style' licks in there i noticed and not to mention the guitar :) You're a great player fair doos, just try not to get carried away, i know that ur only improving but I'm sure you know what I mean, Andy Timmons helped me realize that u don't need to shred loads, he makes every note count :) Well done, Can't wait to see more from you
I like the guitar. I have an Ibanez 7 string which I like a lot, but I have always been a strat fan. i just picked up a blacktop strat w/maple neck. Humbuckers, single coil no matter, strats sound great.

very good solo, quite good performance, nice piano ... hmm .. I think it is wrong comment :)
Sorry, Yasi, but anyone who watched this video over 16, looked how your breasts smothered the horn of your guitar = D or, probably, he is sick, if considered how many frets on your guitar. or how much you practice
it is a compliment!! you indeed play well and perfectly look
Ah and one more thing. Try to fix the habit of pulling your pinky up so much. If u will be able to play the notes without pulling your fingers so much away from the fretboard then you will be able to increase you speed.
Very good. The improvement is enormous and really visible. Now, since you got a better technique it's time to start being drawn into your playing. You have to be more aware of what youre doing. Running random patterns on scale ladders is good for practicing individual notes and learning how they sound. You should try to but them together into a reasonable melody. You will do it, I have no doubts. Nevertheless I'm really impressed!
Why aren't you living in Belgium....? ;) We would jamming! haha! :) Nice playing, interesting licks but too much notes some times... But your techniques and the sound are great!! :D Keep it up and good chance in Berkley next year! ;)
I'd say feel any note you play. you put too many noites and we dont remember them cause they say nothing. try to make speak your notes, not put all the notes you know on your board
... but watching the others I thought to my self "wow this is the first girl in youtube that I can say is really good" I've seen others play more "difficult" or "faster" stuff, but you have the attitude in your hands. The only path left for you is accuracy, and that's the most difficult, 'cause you already have the "intention" very defined, but nailing the accuracy of the great guitar players is indeed your next step, so keep up the awesome work, and a MASSIVE congratulations Yasi!
Nice! tough I would focus a bit more in what the backing track is yelling for! pauses, pauses, pauses. I understand you were jamming and I know precisely how we try to pull out some cool stuff during the jam, and also practice some licks in particular. So it's not that I'm basing on this single video...
more money than skills.good potential tho.nice to see someone going out of their comfort zone as well.sometimes it'll sound shit but otherwise you just end up ripping the same licks all the time. Tone could do with thickening up some too.
you dont need to play a note evry single second. you look like you have potential to be very expressive. sometimes play much less notes and allow notes to ring. hold your bends longer.
She's still young and 'impressed' with her ability to play fast. She'll mature.
Most of us go through a period where we're playing 100 miles an hour all the time, but eventually we figure out; playing like that isn't truly musical.
@mojoefly why playing less notes? some one can be expressive even with so many notes, example Malmsteen and so many heavy metal guitarists or jazz... but well, there are some mistakes in this video but really who cares :)
its cool to see a female guitarist with chops for days and i commend u on that accomplishment, but the guitar sounds a bit thin for my taste and it would be cool if u explored a more melodic approach to improv too instead of just shredding. keep up the good work.
was pretty shitty and it seems to me that most good parts were either taken out of Steve Vai´s songs/licklibrary or were prerehearsed...you really hear when she goes from vai to her own stuff...it begins to suck. Yeah, I said it. Now come on bash me because I critizized a female guitarist.
@KonkreteXXX Yasi has come a long way and continues to get better everyday, there is absolutely no reason to say hurtful things. She is very young and guitar is a lifetime developement, she is going to be famous someday if she keeps it up. She has a great desire to play the guitar and also is very attractive, someone is going to promote her someday and you will be eating your words. Keep rocking Yasi and ignore these negative people.
@MysticalMuffinDude by doing better phrasing, and using timing to get different effects. stuff like that. Its different from improving on a regular song.
I love Your guitar, but I really love how Your tits are pressing up against it,very lucky guitar : )

... but watching the others I thought to my self "wow this is the first girl in youtube that I can say is really good" I've seen others play more "difficult" or "faster" stuff, but you have the attitude in your hands.

Tone could do with thickening up some too.

you dont need to play a note evry single second. you look like you have potential to be very expressive. sometimes play much less notes and allow notes to ring. hold your bends longer.
mojoefly 10 months ago 34
@mojoefly
She's still young and 'impressed' with her ability to play fast. She'll mature.
Most of us go through a period where we're playing 100 miles an hour all the time, but eventually we figure out; playing like that isn't truly musical.
micjustmic 8 months ago
@mojoefly why playing less notes? some one can be expressive even with so many notes, example Malmsteen and so many heavy metal guitarists or jazz... but well, there are some mistakes in this video but really who cares :)

@darklightraven sometimes its what you don't play that counts.

how much did you pay for the guitar?
mojoefly 10 months ago
its cool to see a female guitarist with chops for days and i commend u on that accomplishment, but the guitar sounds a bit thin for my taste and it would be cool if u explored a more melodic approach to improv too instead of just shredding. keep up the good work.
mrdiazzz007 10 months ago
was pretty shitty and it seems to me that most good parts were either taken out of Steve Vai´s songs/licklibrary or were prerehearsed...you really hear when she goes from vai to her own stuff...it begins to suck.

@JoeSunStrat How can you improve on an improv?
MysticalMuffinDude 11 months ago
@MysticalMuffinDude by doing better phrasing, and using timing to get different effects. stuff like that. Its different from improving on a regular song.
