  • you should of dropped it in the right spot then left it a little loose so you can turn it to set it the correct way.

  • kind of sounds like a bad camshaft ,or broken valve springs, or older HEI were a newer one shoud be used, the difference is the 1981 and up hei has secound connector for your computer,

  • hey dude my 78 monte carlo is sounding kinda like this and dies out in reverse. If you ever found out whats wrong an how you fixed reply back cause i need ta know what ta do,I have a vid an you can hear how different it sounds an shit, look at it on my channel bro, c if you know whats up with it!

  • Did you ever fix it?

  • Sounds like it keeps going out. maybe you need to invest in a new timing chain in the engine?

  • turn your distributor maybe 6 degrees take a listen to your back fires

  • My 89 is doin the exact same thing! did u find out how to fix it? if so can u let me know!

    Thanks!

  • NICE SEATS

  • Why do you have ford blue valve covers and distributor cap on a Chevy?

  • same here 1992 chevy tahoe 4x4 2 door it gets hot and turns off when iturn the weel

they told me the distriburator was old ? the spark was not consistant it was very low and slow ........?what u think ??????

  • With a hydraulic cam the valve spring must exert enough pressure against the valve lifter (or lash adjuster) plunger to keep it centered in its travel to prevent "lifter pump-up". When pump-up occurs the valve is held slightly off its seat resulting in a significant loss of power and possibly a misfire. It is this loss of power and misfire that is often misdiagnosed as a fuel system or ignition system problem.

  • either the gahooten valve or muffler bearings are worn out

  • Timing! your distributor is off by a tooth.

  • cam gear is off by a tooth sounds like

  • your truck is the same color as my 83 silverado short wheel base

  • that engine is trying to run backwards. may need to check your wiring, or it may have jumped timing. get a timing gun and check to see where it's at. my guess is that it jumped timing.

  • Did you ever find out what was wrong? Your timing is way off, first check your wires, then checking your firing order.. if that doesn't help then get your #1 Cyclinder up and see where the Dist is pointing, if its not pointing to #1 on the cap then if you can turn it to match if you can't pull the Dist and drop it in where it needs to be. If that doesn't help then its your chain.

  • I, also, have the same truck. But my issue is that it won't start after it's warmed up! It starts randomly. On average, when the temperature's right, it'll start once every 6 months. But, then when it's warm, and I park (at the store for example), it won't start up again! WTF!? Any one of you have any clues?

  • im having this problem with my elco right now i think it has to do with the advance vacuum on the distrubtor

  • its a chevy. start buying new parts for it. i have the same truck. very easy to work on. but the tailpipe is the only thing holding it together.

  • take the distributor out and start over. first find top dead center on the compression strock and then find the firing order. install everything as followed. if the engine still runs the same its most likely a carburator issue. i don't think it is a internal problem but if there is, its probably a bent valve. hook up a compression gauge and this will tell you if you have this problem.

  • Do this clock wise checking for eratic action and then go back 2 teeth counter and this will bring you past your original mark. Do this till it corrects itself and by doing this you are correcting the problem by retarding and advancing the timing. I fthis does not fix the problem you may have an issue with your timing chain and sproket meaning your engine jumped timing.

  • First thing is use a timing gun and check the timing before wrenching that distributor around like that because misfires and timing issues cause more damage and problems and can burn a valve out. If you have removed the distributor before you could possibly be off by a tooth. Loosen and lift the distributor about 3 inches with the cap off and clock your rotor but do not loosen it and set it back down in. This will move it to the next tooth.

  • mine done that it has the same carb mine got water in it and it fucked it up didnt run right could have a intake airleakplus timing issues but try to get a new carb then start goin down the list of stuff

  • sounds like a timing issue it could be the carb or it could have a worn cam turn it counterclock wise to advance timing or clock wise to lower the timing untill it runs better

  • Check that your plug wires arent on the exhuast and burnin up.

  • hey i have a 1978 chevy k10 and it has the wrong harmonic balncer so check is urs is the right one for the motor

  • ford sucks, id rather push a chevy than drive a ford....

  • that is soo true

  • @m4army lol good cus its the only way its getting up any hills lol chevys suck

  • @m4army yes, push the chevy. why use so much gas, with their fuel economy (or lack therof),why put weight on a frame that is not even fully boxed, drive something with the handling of a steel suspension, risk a crash with no framing around the engine, and common steel for a louder ride. I see no problem with driving the ford, it has all the reverse of these problems...

  • you have a SEVERE problem Off TOO MUCH ADVANCE

loosen off your dizzy bolt with it rtunning with some throttel turn it ClockWise OR Counter Clockwise UNTILL it runs ok without backfiring in the carb

  • I'm having the same problem with my '73 ,I've tried for weeks to fix it with no luck. Can anyone help?Check my vid response.

  • have you got the firing order correct? if not, the firing order is on the intake manifold

  • just get a new fucking car and i mean new

  • get a timing light...

    wow.

and you dont need a new car, new cars suck. old ones are way easier to work on.

i got my 1984 chevy 2.8 runnin without a tic or a click. perfect.

  • jajaja im having the same problem with my 1985 chevy c-10...The timing is was off..

  • timing is waaaay off, check the chain if thats fine then it could be the distributor gear is dinged up

  • your timing is WAY off! I would imagine since its popping out the carb the timing is either to far foward or your timing chain has jumped a few teeth. Popping out of the carb a SURE sign the timing is off.

  • Check your points.Just a thought,hope it helps.

  • If you have another carburetor, stick it on there and see what happens.

  • timing try top dead center and do the distributor rewire it and it might be burnin rich back firin .

  • Try running diesel

  • I know i posted once before, But one more thing you might want to check i seen you had yours wires zip tied togeter well sometimes that will cause them to miss fire.

  • sounds like firing order or you need to reset the timing put number one top dead and reset the dist. also check to make sure your wires arent burtnt or cracked i have a 69 truck with a 383 did the same started up put give it a lil and it would pop check timing and all wires

  • Sounds like timing could be way to far advanced or wires crossed. NateDogg: yes the firing order can be off when me an my friend put a 383 in his 95 silvy, he had 5 and 7 crossed it ran and would go down the road, but it ran like shit

  • i know its your muffler bearing because i had a teeruck dust like yurn its a 66 ford right if dat dusent werk try inhiberter relay it ill make em pop tu

  • eh......what??

  • my 87 c10 did this exact same thing. i had a bent pushrod which threw everything out of order. thats what it sounds like to me

  • after that take ur fuel line off (don't want the truck to start during this) and put it in a catch pan or something to that affect take ur valve covers off and let one of ur friends just tap the ignition a couple of times if some of the rockers are moving more then others you could have bent pushrods or a bad cam or some really really bad valve lash lol just go through this and see if that doesn't help

  • ok i have this smae truck and experienced the same eissue even though this truck doesn't have point it does use a magnetics pick up coild take the rotor bug off check ur cleareances on ur pick up also check ur vacum lines u can get a vacum gauge at ur local auto parts store also make sure that all the contacts on ur coil and magnetic pick up are clean second go through and check all ur plug wires then check the plugs after those issues are eliminated then go through and check ur valve lash.

  • hes firing order cant be that off if it starts and runs

  • That engine will run on only 5 cylinders. His is obviously hittin on more than tha, it's not floppin around in there like a marlin on the deck of a boat. That one's hittin' on all eight to some extend. Check for vacuum leaks or a leaking plug wire that's grounding out enough of the spark to make it run like shit

  • either you have some wires crossed or a wiped cam

  • to me its out of time i have timed many trucks and cars nissan checy ford dodge and more but its 1 of a few things you timing chain has stretched and jumped time i have seen that happen or like somone said wires crossed if its wires your fireing order is 1.8.4.3.6.5.7.2 or its your disturburator

  • seems to be crossed wires..

  • i have the same year same truck...an mine does that same popping noise...if you got it fixed tell me what you did

    thanks

  • if it were 180 out it wouldnt run at all. turn the distributor counterclockwise untill the popping goes away, if that doesnt fix it then your timing chain is stretched.

  • to me it sounds like the disturburator is in backwards, on a Chevy engine it can go in 2 ways, My advice is to take the disturburator out and turn the rotor button about 180 degrees and try again.

  • If nothing hte other guys mention have helped, you may have some wiped cam lobes with one or more valves not opening or not opening completely. That popping makes me wonder about an exhaust valve not opening.

  • Not sure if you solved ur problem yet but if you didn't maybe this will help. first, did you check the timing on it. from wut i saw, the popping through the carb sounds is for sure your timing. I don't remember exactly but i think if your timing is to far advanced it will pop through the carb. If it's too retarded it will back fire through the tailpipe. I'd start with the timing and see what you can come up with.

  • coil and ignition module are big problems with HEI. I've replaced 100s of scorched coils and modules.

  • sounds like a mixture if crossed wires, vacume, and timing, throw a timing light on her

  • ya like the other guy said check ur vacume through out

  • sounded like your wires were crossed?

  • My truck is a piece of crap!! Feel bad for me!! OK!! LOL!!

  • This video rocks!

  • Check for vacuum leaks.
