People "became" Catholic because their choice was change or die. But they kept alive many of their pagan customs and a lot of their culture, including some old songs, and yes, many who sang these had no idea of the origins and meanings - but some did know!
I love this kind of music, but I can't help thinking that most of the people who have sung it over the centuries haven't been "pagan" as you seem to prefer to believe--they've been Catholic!

"Walk
Walk
Walk resolutions
Walk to benefit
And walking in quiet
Walk to door and
I escaped"

@Juliek94
Go go go my love
Go quietly and peacefully
Go to the door and flee with me
And may you go safely my dear
