  • @elal757 In soon I'll be working as an gun engineer for the Brazilian Air Force, and probably this is the gun that i will work mor with ( and H&K G3). Very interesting assault rifle. Excelent video.

    PS:srry for my bad english.

  • I'm VERY inclined to get this as my next rifle. Having the upper and lower able to be detached is a real advantage for travel.

  • Thanks for doing this video. Can you add the tools list to the info section? Thanks.

  • Very nice rifle!

  • disassembled, into the upper and lower receiver, it is technically not a gun right?

  • I was a tiny 11 year old kid when I had to run with my FAL above my head till I passed out because I called it a 'gun' instead of a rifle! It seemed like half my body weight and probably was. I also had to learn how to strip it. It was an R1 version. Had to attend compulsory cadet camp in South Africa. They'd wake you up for mock terrorist raids at 3 a.m. in the middle of the bush firing blanks from your FAL. I hate rifles now...oh and guns! Oh and those terrorists are running the country now!

  • I have the same gun as you I just bought it and have been having an issue with it maybe you can help whenever I charge the gun my bolt never shuts all the way it jams up about a 1/4" everytime I try to load it

  • @TheCaferocker I doubt DSA would have sold a gun with improper headspace or similar, but there is a possibility that your gun may have serious issues that should be diagnosed by a smith. However you may have the same issue mine did initially - it needs to be worn in. Parkerizing is a rough finish and on mine the friction caused the same issue. So the best solution is lube, and LOTS of it. Take the bolt/carrier apart and lube all contact points. Also lube inside of rails and the hammer face.

  • @elal757 Hey dude thanks for the reply, yeah I was suprised also with the good reputation DSA has to have this issue. But sure enough I contacted the dealer I got it from and they contacted DSA and now their going to take care of it for me for free. They also said the same thing you did about it might be the finish on the gun that it could be the issue. Once again thanks

  • @TheCaferocker Your return sring tube may not be installed (swaged) properly. That will bind up the last 1/4" of bolt travel.

  • @ParleyEstes Thanks dude for the reply... I sent my gun back to DSArms to have them figure it out and they found a section on my reciver that some how did'nt get cnc machined all the way and fixed the problem toltally at their cost with no hassle to me besides not having my FAL for about 2 weeks.

  • Thanks for your vids, regarding the disassembly of a FAL rifle. Very helpful. Since a couple of days i'm the proud owner of an original, all matching STG58. Didn't have any knowledge about the rifle, but this helped me big time. The thing that interests me about it, is the absolute top notch build quality of it. It's build like a tank. No compromises were made during designing and manufacturing. Very, very sturdy and durable. Great shooter, comfy and the general feel about it is just awesome.

  • any info on how to replace the barrel?

  • @vampire847 Changing the barrel on a FAL is a complex gunsmithing task, and somewhat outside the scope of my videos. There are plenty of people that have built these rifles at home and documented it on the internet, many of these pages have the info you're looking for.

  • Thanks for this video. I just bought a Belgian-made FAL and I'm excited to learn about the weapon all over again. I have had a couple of FALs in the past, but this recent purchase has made me interested in the cleaning, assembly, dis-assembly.

    Thanks for this detailed account.

    Bravo.

  • wat about the australian ligthgow S.R.L l1a1?

  • Good vid for those of us just getting into FAL rifles. Did Ken Royce aka "Boston T. Party" help you decide on the FAL? Gotta love that "Gun Bible" he wrote. I've been debating between a DSA Para FAL or PTR 91 G3 clone. The FAL is more expensive, but I think the Para FAL was the best option. Now I have to wait 14 weeks :(

  • Dude, your video is WAY too long. I'm not gonna watch ten minutes just so I can figure out how to disassemble my slide/breech block. Make a quick version for Christs sakes. WAY TOO MUCH TALKING!!!!

  • @LPCVT When you searched for the video before you clicked it it clearly said it was 10 mins long and you continued to click and watch it then bitched about your own stupidity. Ohh do I love youtube.

  • Holy crap mate!!! Nice video but I served with and carried the cunt for a fair amount of time and I don't remember ever taking her apart beyond "field stripping"....that's at least second maintenance level if not third...

  • I used the Heckler & Koch G3 when I was in the army. Thought the FAL was almost the same, but its much more complicated! I would'nt want to clean the FAL in the field...

  • by the time YOU finish your FAL

    I finished 5 AK-47 !!

    This Fal is suck!

  • P.S. Guns r not dangerous, stupid ppl r!

  • G.R. stands for Granade, it closes the gas chamber for the use of muzzle granades...

I`ve served in a country that uses the FAL as main infantry rifle, and those bad boys are rough, and they also last forever, some rifles were over 30 years old and fired like a brand new one.

Also this one in the video is a newer version.. the older ones have a different way of disassembly, just a couple of details.

  • do you have to do this to clean it?

  • the smart ppl make their own tools and the fools buy other tools. see i even rhimes!

  • if you have an optic mounted on the dust cover, and if you field strip the rifle would you have to re-zero the optic after each field strip?

  • Do you know what type of permit you need for an automatic upper reciever, and where to buy one once the permit is acquired? Thanks

  • @ElmoAtWar

In the US, any machine gun requires a $200 tax stamp. see the website machinegunpriceguide period com

  • You can clean the piston head with a match head to get the carbon off.

  • Thanks for posting!!!

  • This is very helpful.

  • you are the man thank you!!

  • where is the return spring or main spring?

  • @bigbattles

    It is inside the stock...

The long rod you can see sticking at the end of the bolt carrier, is in contact with the spring plug

  • i have a R1A1 FAL in my hands now. im going to clean it up and lube it to see if it runs better.

  • beautiful weapon

i'd like to get one someday.

its a shame the communists took over my college and they dont let you have guns on campus.

  • there is nothing easy like the ak 47 to fieldstrip

  • @bobtaylor1979 thats what i was thinking....i could be done took my ak apart, clean it and put it back together by now.lol i like the fal, i just dont like all the small pins

  • @akshooter762 r u sure bout tht to completely take apart ur ak

  • nothing as ugly, gay, and inaccurate either =P

    well theirs the RPD...

  • MyFAL Para standard metal handgaurds have a round nut holding the screw in place & I cannot get it loose. Any ideas?

  • compro

  • kalashnikov said that a weapons must never have small parts. is this thing reliable?

  • Yes, very. And it is possible to get an AK to choke (i have.) I hardly believe that anything that was in service with 93 countries on all 6 permanently inhabited continents and has seen action in over 15 conflicts and earned the nickname "right arm of the free world" could be called anything but reliable. To quote gun author Ken Royce aka "Boston T. Party" "Since when did 93 countries agree on anything?"

  • All weapons jam even AKs they are not invincible but the likelyhood of it jamming is low. I take it it must be pretty accurate aswell

  • @elal757 your a fucking faggot... the gun is called an F.N.F.A.L not a "fal" you loser, go join the marines and get your self killed in the most useful way possible! maybe you'll acctually learn something about guns while your there

  • dude i have two fals in my gunsafe, no dickhead bothers calling them F.N.F.A.L unless they fuck dots.

  • @youpissmeoff36 dude, does it really matter if he calls it something else?

  • @elal757 haha good point!

  • @elal757 people said it was "dust sensitive"... well thats what i've heard

  • @riseld4 Well, when Larry Vickers (former 1st SFOD-Delta) says that the FAL is his favorite... you get the point. He says that the fall does take more work to keep up, but it's more accurate and more versitile. Note: i'm not dissing the AK, it's a good gun.

  • this rifle is way too complicated for comfort.

  • @Alexn1067

    You serious?

The FAL is one of the simplest and has the least amont of parts.

Compare it to the AR15 and you'll see.

  • So would you use danger close? or stopping power? lol red dot or holographice maybe even a thermal right? lol

  • i would use stopping power with holographic sight thermal sucks on assault riffles

  • Which half of the reciever is regulated, upper or lower?

  • Thanks for the question...Upper receiver is serial numbered and considered a "firearm" by law in the US, and as such requires a FFL transfer.

  • can you please explain to me how selective fire works. its something ive been dying to know. how do you make a full auto gun fire in single shots even if you squeeze the trigger and do not let go.

  • First of all: the only difference between a semi and full auto is a capture sear that the hammer gets stuck on after you fire, and releases when you let go of the trigger (it normally captures farther back than the trigger sear so it won't fire again when you release). In selective fire, the switch (selector) will block the capture sear from capturing on the full auto setting, and releases it on semi.

  • @riseld4

On most autos, when the selector is on auto,it allows the trigger to be pulled even farther out of the way of the rotating hammer.

On auto, only thing interfering with the hammer is the bolt carrier's forward and rearward movement.

On semi, the trigger(even though fully depressed) is always close enough to catch and interfere with the hammer so that it is always caught after the first cycle.

  • obviously you don't know a lot about firearms, you try to act like you do, but any half wit that has messed around with an m-16 and FAL would know that the m-16 is by far more simple to strip down.

hell, I could probably take apart 3 to 4 of them in the time it takes for the average man to take apart a FAL

  • "I don't know a lot about firearms".

First,I spent 4 years in the Marine corps 1983-87(probably before you were born) and was trained on the M16.

Secondly I have owned an FAL for the last 10 years.

Please,go ahead and say something else that is hilariously stupid and entertaining.

  • what is funny, is that on youtube you can be anyone you say you are. Would you believe me if I told you that I was in the Navy Seals for 8 years? Of course you shouldn't

i am not calling you a liar, I am just saying that you telling me isn't enough for our purposes on youtube. Frankly, assuming your credentials are true, I find it hard to believe that you would think the FAL is simpler then the M-16.

If what you say is true, you have my respect and gratitude. and in that case I apologize.

  • What I'm saying is certainly true, not too many 47 years olds play silly games like teens tend to do.

Aside from that issue, the FN has no charging handle, gas rings on a bolt(3),or a cam pin.

By the way,in Parris Island we were told to make certain that the gas rings on the bolt were 120 degrees apart so as to maintain the pressure for cycling-something that isn't necessary in an FN.

While the FN has a gas piston and spring,it is nothing to disassemble-nor do you even have to while cleaning it.

  • the O rings are definently the achilies heal of the M-16 platform.

and I am sure you are correct that the FAL requires less maintainence then the M-16. Simply for field stripping, I still maintain that the M-16 is easier to break down.

again, I didn't mean to sound like a smart ass, I am sure you know your shit and I am sorry for questioning. Its just that a lot of m-16 bashers are counter-strike kids with little to no experience making dubious statements.

and thank you for your service

  • Don't get me wrong,I love the M16(I have owned an AR15 or the last 20 years!).

I suddenly got a lot of respect for it when I first went to the range in Parris Island, there I was shocked at how accurate it was at 500 yards.

    It was amazing!

I too dislike those that trash the M16,it shows that they don't know what they're talking about.

There have been over 130 changes since the M16 first came out.

It does get dirty though from the direct impingement gas system, but mine never fails to cycle.

  • i am not happy about the M16. I used the M16A1t in the regular army and the M16A2 in Desert Storm with the reserves. In my opinion it is not a great field weapon for the combat soldier. The caliber is too small and the direct gas system is okay for guarding air force bases but it is not great for extended field exercises.

  • still kind of confused. a an animation would really help but there isnt one so until then..

  • I agree that words are only so illustrative(especially mine).

In a nutshell, when you fire just about any semi-auto,the lower front portion of the trigger gets in the way of the hammer after each shot due to a "sear" or small edge that catches the hammer stopping it from dropping again.

Auto's have a deeper recess in the selector which allows the trigger to move much further back-getting out of the way of the hammer.

I noticed it in the Marines,on auto, the M16 trigger went an extra 1/4" rear.

  • yeah saw of vid on the operations of an m16, i get it now.

  • Wow just a push down on a button and the guts of the gun slides out, its as easy as a AK.....very nice, please tell me my good sir, are these FAL's still available on the market?

  • Sure are... Google " DS Arms"

  • Nevermind I solved the problem. For those with new DSA SA58 para fals, you may need to be aggressive when it comes to using the release lever. I solved my problem by making sure the fal was level, then pressing down with both hands on the release lever. that freed the lever and allowed the fal to break open. Thanks for the vids!

  • I'm going to take a guess and say that your gun is brand new.

DSA's parkerizing on their new guns can be a bit rough. Of course, this wears down after time, but in the interim it's a good idea to grease everything with some good lithium grease.

  • Hey I have a question about my sa58 fal, I took the bolt out and spring, and left the cover on and closed the top. Now the rifle will not break open again for me to put the bolt and spring back in. The break open lever wont even budge. Is there any way to fix this?

  • To me, an FAL is much easier to take apart than any AK kind of rifle. I'm speaking of the internals, of course, not just field stripping.

  • Yes.. finally someone gets it!!! I can field strip this rifle with my bare hands blindfolded while hanging upside down in a snake pit. Back home at my trusty workbench, I can easily take apart, clean, or replace any part I want to.

  • How could it be much easier? The AK is about as easy as it gets.

  • both are pretty easy--they display GOOD design, the AR-15 on the other hand...

  • true. Armalites are designed very well, just pushing a pin opens the reciever, but cleaning the parts can be very difficult, its a very complicated rifle in my opinion.

  • haha.. guns are dangerous like pools are serial killers... i think in the warning it should have said "misuse of firearms is deadly & could result in serious injury or death" ... just saying... good review by the way...

  • Wow it has a lot fewer parts than I had imagined.

  • The IMBEL is different, is, maybe more modern...

  • i think the field stripping of fn fal is one of the difficult one

  • Well done with the video!

I am amazed that other commenters suggested thatt the FAL is a complicated rifle. People with no gunsmithing experience at all are able to assemble FAL rifles from parts kits.

  • It's not very complicated, in fact it can be almost completely disassembled without much trouble. A complete disassembly of the AK would be of more trouble.

  • @L1A1 it's still moderately complicated to disassemble to a full gas tube removal. requires too many tools. Compare it to the SKS or M1 Garand (which are the two i have the most experience with) those require no real tools to disassemble (garand requires a giant phillips screwdriver shaped tool to undo the gas plug). This guy has screwdrivers and pliers out just to get to the gas tube. I always remove the gas tube on my rifles to clean thoroughly. :/

  • @L1A1 I still love the FAL btw. It's an awesome rifle. I enjoy the tilt locking bolt very much.

  • fn fal requires a lot of maintainance

because it has a lot of working parts

  • It requires preventative maintenance and cleaning, just like any car, gun, or other machine.

  • but it is very complex and requires pliers

  • I have one, shot 2000 rounds over 15 years and never cleaned the piston assembly, never had a problem, did not want to mess anything up,now I know how to dissassemble it,thank you.

  • Thats is why the FN FAL is know as "the AK of the west"

  • do it a couple of times and you could do it eyes closed.

  • fuck no wonder the PDF changed to the steyr sooo complicated

  • damn, this is a complicated design

  • i was thinkin the same thing lol

  • very helpful! however, parkerized rifle doesn't show up well in this lighting.

  • Great video man, I just got a DSA SA58 and this video helped a lot, can't wait to watch the other videos...

  • Comment removed

  • if the bipod is originally mounted, it`s an STG58...this is an Austrian version of the FAL.

  • Kinda.

It's in truth an "American made" copy of the Austrian FAL.

  • Excellent vids, really helped me out when I first got my Century Arms FAL sporter. I would just like to add that it IS possible to remove the buffer spring with a normal flathead screwdriver. I used a stubbie one, and it worked fine, just make sure to keep a place a pillow or something over it to keep the spring from flying out. Also it's a good idea to wear eye protection when taking guns apart, should a spring or something come flying out.

  • love the rifle, just not as easy to take apart as an ar15

  • but easier to clean!

  • yeah lol

  • Does the FNC operate the exact same as the FAL except for being in 5.56 Nato?

  • Nah, the FAL operates on the principle of tilting breechlock (just like the SKS) while the FNC operates on the principle of rotating bolt (just like the AK).

  • Good video! very nice rifles! my next fal will be a DSA.

  • GR = gass regulator its in English

  • A punch, a special tool, a pair of pliers, screw drivers?

Are you taking apart a rifle or or fixing a car?

All you should need is a cartridge tip... because it is a waste of weight to carry all this garbage in the field.

Either you are really bad at disassembling a rifle, or the FAL should never have been adopted as a military rifle.

What kind of rifle needs that many tools?

  • Umm, in case you didn't watch the whole series, the ENTIRE rifle was taken apart, not just field stripped. Field stripping can be accomplished with your hands alone... otherwise you do need tools. And why would you want to completely disassemble your rifle in the field? So you could loose shit?

  • exactly, I field strip is what you do after a trip to the range to clean the major shit. You only do a complete dissembly when your rifle is really dirty

  • Exactly - good comment - well done, sir!

  • looks like it has alot of small pieces that could get lost in field conditions.

  • I'm getting an original Belgian FAL (de-activated cos I live in the UK...) Still need to know how to take it apart tho so thanks for this.

  • thanks for this...I just picked up a custom made tactical .308 from dsa..I am blown away....$2600 dollar porcsh rifle!!

  • i am very interested in guns. I'm 15 and im buying a simple romanian ak, a sig saur pistol, and a moss. shotgun. I was wondering if you knew how the gas cylinder actually functioned?

  • The gas system on this rifle is very simple. There's a small hole in the barrel that is vented into the gas tube. When the gun is fired, the gas pressure rises in the gas tube, forcing the piston back, and makes the gun cycle.

  • Nice video.

I'm from the Brazilian Army, the FAL is our main infantry weapon...I just Love it.

Unfortunatly the Brazilian law is realy sefere when it comes to buying weapons, you need a lot of paper work and bla bla bla...

I wish I had an rifle colection. Just love them.

There's nothing like disassembling and reassembling the FAL. I can do it with my eyes shut! hehehe

  • I saw a DSArms GrayWolf(sp)today. You(r) vid taught me alot. It is interesting how many parts there are to the FAL. I had no idea. I have an XCR and a CMMG AR15 w/ VLTOR Upper, gas impgmt. Like them both, but I am shopping for a .308. I thought I wanted a FAL but now I think an AR15 variant would be simpler. How is living with it (cleaning/accuracy) typically?

  • As far as the FAL - It's a .308 battle rifle. It's not a "tack driver" per se but it isn't an AK, either. Realistically, it's pretty much on par with the other big .308s - the M14 and G3. Depending on what ammo you're using, "around" 1-2MOA is about right. Changing the front sight post or installing an optic of some kind really can really help any gun, and the FAL is no exception. My gun is unmodified, and other than a new stock or a possible ELCAN installation, no mods are planned.

  • Check your youtube mail for more comments - this could take all night on here!

  • you have an interesting gun collection

  • Thanks! There's more, but a lot don't warrant a video because their either too simple (like one of my bolt actions) too rare(AG-42) or too common (I might, however get recognition for the millionth AR-15 video on youtube) but who knows. If I get bored enough....

  • Its gungeeks american cousin.

  • ....so is taking guns apart ur hobby? ur like pro at it lol.. Btw keep up the good work with ur vids...they r pretty much the best i have seen so far on youtube. ur just extremely good at explaining in detail, which is exactly what most all disassembly and reassembly videos r lacking on here. A++ great job.. Peace!

  • Pretty much everything gun related is my hobby, lol. I'm very mechanically inclined and a do it yourselfer. Cars, guns, boats - I love messing with all of them and doing as much of my own work as I can. thanks for the feedback, i really like helping other folks with their guns.

  • Also in theory, you're supposed to clean your guns everytime you shoot them. You learn this stuff by necessity.

  • I love these videos. How much did this gun cost you?

  • Thanks for the input, man. This particular model can be bought today for a little over $1K. There are a lot of FAL variants, and you can pay anywhere from $700 (century POS that doesn't work) to $3000 (pre-ban belgian) to, well, a lot of damn money for a "real" select fire gun. If you're thinking about one of these guns, email me there's a lot of info that I can give you on your Fal hunt.

  • cool. nice videos. you've got allot of respect for your guns.
