I went to Moissac, instead of just looking at one entrance, why not show the splendor of the entire abbey and courtyard? Did you see how beautiful the church is and how huge that tree in the middle is? awesome.
The reason I limited myself to the romanesque porch is that it constitutes a single iconographic ensemble. Also most of the rest of the rest of the abbey was rebuilt at a different period. The exception is the cloister, even though that was rebuilt in the Gothic period. I hope you enjoyed a visit to the other sites included in the joining as well as the Joining of Heaven and Earth website.
Fantastic. I've worked this into tomorrow's lecture on the great portals of the pilgrimage roads. Thanks for postinfg. Will these eventually be available on DVD?
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, these will eventually be available on DVD. Please take note that it is a labour of love and these things often take longer to finish. I expect to have a blog up later in the year.
Naturally I am keen to know a little about the people out there in cyberspace who take an interest and I was intrigued to know that you are lecturing on this subject. Perhaps you could expand on that a little for me?
I'm a doctoral candidate finishing my dissertation on 12th century sculpture in the Saintonge. This summer, I'm teaching a course on Medieval pilgrimage and have been trying to insert elements that make the subject come alive for my students (including my own videos that I made when I was doing research. I'm curious-- did you use a lift of some sort? Best of luck finishing the project-- it's wonderful. Looking forward to your blog!
