FWIW, I heard Dave Van Ronk sing "River" at a coffee house in Boston back in the early 80's. It was an unexpectedly heart wrenching version in a style that only DVR could do. I'll never forget it.

@anthonypi : Actually, I think Joni's River is better than most of Sarah's own songs. I think Sarah's best talent is her singing, even more so than her great songwriting ability. Joni is a legend, a great songwriter as this song shows, but not quite as powerful a singing voice as Sarah has. Sarah has a great band as well. But in the end, it's like comparing apples with oranges. Both are great!

Both are great true dat , I think of Jonis vocals as being so unique though..but yeah shes more of a songwriter/ poet than Sarah is.. . I think River in particular is a song that needs to be sung with a sadness in the vocals, and in a way that the regret really comes through, and that spoken kinda of vocal Joni does..but you got me thinking ; )

I have listened to and loved every Joni song since they first came out. We collected her albums in the 60's and 70's when we were teenagers. She just can't be topped, but you did a beautiful cover here. Your voice is right for her songs and I hope you do more.
