Nope, nothing to do with Torchwood. It was made by Russell T Davies before Torchwood. When gareth got the role in Torchwood RTD changed the characters name just as a reference to his earlier work with the actor. I think the original Torchwood character was meant to be called Idris Hopper...thank god it got changed!!!

Yeah, thank goodness it got changed. Idris Hopper IS NOT a good name for Ianto Jones. I am very glad it was changed. And Jack and Idris sounds bad and Jadris (or Idrick ) sounds even worse! Go Janto!

this yanto jones is from a comedy drama called "mine all mine" and has nothing to do with torchwood other than the fact that theproducer/writer of dr.who and torchwood, russel t davies, also wrote this show. The reason Ianto is named Ianto in torchwood is becuase of this character here. The orginal character name for torchwood was different.

It was made by RTD right then he liked Gareth so much he called him back for Torchwood and the name was meant to be Gary or something and coz Gareth was so good RTD changed it to Ianto =)
