  • great. finally one epic rendition w/ lyrics. Love

  • Would've been so sick to be there. I mean I've been to Veneta for the fair and its still got a lot of the vibe it had then I'm sure but damn

  • wow i could not agree more..i love the dead and sonic youth..great connection there

  • Drummers MAKE this song in my opinion

  • DEAD TOOK SOME LSD ON THIS DAY....LOVE JERRY

  • That's Jerry Garcia singing right?

  • o.0 Wow. Just...yeah. This one takes you away....spins you around Alpha Centauri, makes a pit stop around Andromeda, then drops you off somewhere near Dubuque. 8 ]

  • BEST DEAD SHOW EVER

  • Nice ! The Dead are/were awesome. Jerry's musical career was very diverse. He's got some great solo stuff, jazz, bluegrass, etc.

  • a religious experience.

    Thank you, Jerry.

  • Awesome video and an instant favorite! Thanks for posting ;.)

  • yeah

you don't have to like those bands in order to realize what my point was "shatso"

look at the video for "Megalomaiac" "Make Damn Sure" and "What I've Done" they use images such as wild life and animals and what not cut right into the song

it might not even make sense to what the song is saying, but look at this live concert too I was pointing out the similarities and that these newer bands pulled that creativity from bands such as Grateful dead

    any other questions?

  • Save your filthy lies for your own pathetic delusionment and spare us the awkward and disconcerting vantage to your twisted pathology.

  • HA HA HA FUCK U ALL

  • @TheCareMores :D Thumbs up this comment its so awesomeness !!!! :DDD

  • @SvenTwelve I don't get it.

  • what happened to the rest of this video?

    there were 3 parts

  • Woah I can see how Sonic Youth cited them as inspiration for the epic, psychedelic jamming. Except SY's approach is punkier. Echoes in today's post-rock bands like Mogwai and Tortoise too.

  • Sonic Youth is great. Thank you for the reps.

  • ALL the "Jam Bands" of today should bow to the Jerry & the Grateful Dead. Blues, Jazz, country, psychedilic..all rolled into one

    beautiful trip.

  • beautiful version - jazzy, trippy, atmospheric,Jerry in top form;Billy the K laying it down good- superb man!!

  • ...takes you on a trip to a very important part of your Soul!

  • Doesn't Jerry look just wonderful playin' his old Strat? I've got this dowloaded from the archives - the tone is just so mellow. Loads of energy and the winsome spiritual synergy between Jerry and the old Fender.

    God bless all.

  • what was that video after the video?!!?

  • oh and fyi, they were one of the greatest improv bands of their time, which is why they carried on playing so long, they were just jammin

  • i think if you look at an incubus video or even newwer stuff like linkin park or taking back sunday you'd see the use of images in their videos as a tribute to a performance like this.

you can't argue that they had a positiv impact on rock n roll

  • Taking Back Sunday? Linkin Park? You're joking right "streetxpoet07" .....

  • does anybody know where u can get this concert on dvd, or on a torrent? I'd be glad to pay for it I just cant find it, its called sunshine daydream right?

  • moshwangles: sunshine daydream is correct. try shnflacdotnet. there was an active torrent for the DVD last time i looked.

  • This is quite a good rendition of said number - I quite like the visuals, it is always good to see the Grateful Dead with Jerry Garcia, there is something really quite inspiring about his guitar playing - makes me want to take up the guitar again.

  • Great jam ....awesome

  • word of advice lilac nell...check your f***in pulse

  • hey man watch what your saying, us dead heads take offence to that.

  • What are you going to do? Get violent? Beat me up? Aren't you deadheads into things like 'peace' and 'love' and spinning and getting comatose?

Love Man, and kisses... oh, and 'peace'

    Ms Lilac Nell

  • What is your problem? Let the heads be and don't moan about the music, because even if you think this is bad, it's nowhere near as bad as some music out today. Just enjoy it for what it is, a classic performance of a seminal song.

  • You are right. I'm converted; it's great.

  • I think I can sense a bit of sarcasticness in that post...lol

  • A word of advice, Ms Lilac...

If ones words are no better than silence... one should remain silent...

You might not like the music... but, they got a LOT FARTHER in life than I'm guessing you will ever get (at least with that attitude)... so, some respect, please!

PEACE to all... especially those who get it!

  • .So, what's the best you've heard? Give us some idea by what measure you are making this statement; by the way, why bother coming to this channel and taking the trouble to make such statements?

  • I f***ing LOVE the Dead.

Never gave them a chance back in the day but now I'm a true fan. The music is timeless as it is inspirational. Brilliant.

  • billy kreutzman is such an underrsated drummer he's the man and he's tearing it up in this one

  • What an awesome glimpse into a tremendous, transitional period in the band's history.

One drummer, Pigpen gone, and pre-Keith and Donna. It's the most scaled-down performance from the Dead I've EVER heard.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • this isnt pre keith and donna if the date on the video is correct, this was after their successful european tour which included keith and donna.

  • god bless dark star

  • it pisses me off when i didnt get a chance to see the dead all i have is youtube and the movies and i see people still booing, i mean sure they take days to tune but musical greatness takes time....

you dont know what you got till its gone

RIP Jerry and Pigpen much love

  • Im just discovering this band and I'm in my 20s. Now I know what I was missing and what all the hype was about in my teen years.

This band makes you feel so mellow, it's brilliant.

  • I remember when I was younger, like around 14 or so, I had heard my brother mention the Dead, and the name made me think they were some metal band, lol. The summer after my high school freshman year, a friend and I were smoking pot, he put on "Blues For Allah", and it was love at first...hear, I've been a dead head ever since.

  • thats good man i found them when i was 15 now im 17 i didnt get to see a show but i love them ether way.....

  • the d-star from winterland "78" used to be here - oh well

  • Though she does like Peggy-o, and my kids will sing We bid you good night, at bed time, thats pretty fun.

  • God, I wish my wife would get it.

  • the best dark star ive heard so far

  • have you heard the one from 11/11/73?

  • I havent yet but you can bet your ass im gonna hunt it down. do u know if its on youtube, or anywhere online?

  • Is there animation in the middle of this or was that just me? ;o)

  • Very intresting video.

  • I can almost see the liquid pouring down the screen...

  • beautiful...with love and our ears we can bring peace on earth.

    a true revolution

  • This is my FAVORITE Dark Star! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • So has anyone ever found out exactly what this song means?

  • It means something different to every single one of us. That is the beauty of Grateful Dead music =|;-)

  • AMEN

  • Yes. Yes I have. Thank you.

  • Jerry please come back !!!!

  • I miss you Jerry!

  • I miss him to. Never knew him, though.

  • I cant find it at all.

  • I have saved the urls but it seems they have been removed, due to non-permit violation ... that sucks big time ...

  • jazzmicke: go to the URL in the video descriptionon the right. The videos are available in the on-demand section of the Mogulus player.

  • I looked and I looked and I looked ... and finally ... I found the door to oblivion ... thanks a lot ... :-)

  • Very nice jam!

  • cool, thanks

  • what happened to the full 3 part version that was on youtube
