I love any Genesis song with an edge to it. This song, Mama, etc... great stuff. My young, hip kids even put this one in their ipods. The true measure of an outstanding tune.
I feel the greatness of Genesis in this music, cause i know how much great is art of Genesis, but with my all effort it's hard for me feel big sensations with this music...and for me Genesis is absolutely the best band ever.....but the Genesis's masterpiece, except the marvellous "Fading Lights", belong decade of '70 years until Duke....
very well done, and well filmed. like how the yellow lights behind Phil flashed across like car headlights. great guitar work from Mike, and love the way the song ends on this live version; the way the drums hit when Phil sings the title, BOOM-ba-BOOM-ba-BOOM!!! like in his memories he keeps reliving hitting the person with his car over and over again! Thank you for another great upload
When I first heard this song it literally stopped me in my tracks. I was driving at the time and had to pull over. It effected me deeply and I still rate this as one of their best compositions. There but for the grace God go all of us. Drive safely and drive sober.
I used to think the Madonna "live inside of me" quote in the chorus was cheesy, but I now realize it's a semi-tradition with this band, going back to "In the Cage" and "it" ("Raindrops keep falling on my head...", "I've got sunshine," etc).
That this was released and even played live in 1992, proves that Genesis never lost their love and talent for long, atmospheric songs and definitely did *not* sell their souls to pop music.
Easily the most overlooked of the Genesis songs. I'd include it on my top 5 list (along with In the Cage, Home by the Sea/Second Home, Throwing it All Away and Turn it On Again)
Just a reminder of why you shouldn't drink and drive. To live with a memory like this would be horrible...not to mention it would haunt you the rest of your life.
This live version didn't make the live CD for that tour, but was released as a B-side to the "Tell me why" single. And of course it is part of the 1975-1996 boxed set. I like the power of the bass pedals on the chorus.
@ErichStrelow It kind of annoys me that the live CDs were split into two (Shorts and Longs). That's why I reordered the songs in the original order (all in MP3 - send me a PM if interested). :)
@260117100409 mmm.. dont know. theres a LOT to choose from.. :- Mama Driving the last spike In too deep Duke behind the lines Duchess fading lights Domino Take your pick, Genesis, have written and performed some amazing tracks over the years. I'm sure I've left some out, but thats just a few that I feel make me think, make me feel emotions when listening to them. Yes, this is among them, but you cant pick a definitive... best of all all time # 1 nor should you.
well.... i CAN pick my #1. Although this band was in my ear for ages every day, THIS track is my favourite one and will always be my #1. Other songs are great too, no doubt, but 16 people did hit the button :)))
Actually, I think the victim is in a coma from the hit and run and the driver is tormented by his guilt wondering the girl he hit is dreaming while she sleeps

This track and Dominio are my favourites. I could just hit repeat and only have those 2 tracks and be just fine.

@witcherysyles1 I wish they had played this song on the 2007 tour! :) It could have been played after "Ripples".

@SPeacock I totally agree with you there. I wish they would have played this, it's so memorable.

it is a tale of a hit and run driver, who is haunted by the memory of what he has done, "the miles between will somehow put it right".... enjoy

@mulleops Just listen to the lyrics my dear friend. Haunted by the guilt of a "hit and run'...
