It's a shame that I lived in St. Paul and never heard of Eyedea. I have fallen out of touch with the hip-hop scene for a while, because the radio/video stuff by the mainstream is garbage. When Soulja Boy is one of the main "rappers" that's being pushed by record labels and radio, purists like myself have to divorce the art form. Unfortunately, we also deny ourselves of real masterpieces by artists such as Eyedea. I look forward on discovering more of his artistry. RIP brother!

@invertedteapot I beg your pardon? Opiates are mostly uppers? Can you give me some examples? I am genuinely interested. I couldn't tell you about sleeping pills, but I do know that many painkillers are opiate based (obviously) and they're very adept at making you pass out. I damaged my lower back to the point where I was incapacitated and ended up taking the opiate based Tramadol for the pain.  I purposely overdosed to block out the pain and I was certainly not on an 'upper' by any means.

I had some of his friends stay at my house after the last soundset and his energy was definately still around them. if you like eyedea check out Kristoff Krane, Sadistik, and Bodi they're pretty talented as well.

Dainja Synthesis and Wystzyk do a really good job of using jazzy samples like E&A do. further than that the only group I can give props to is the Anticon collective, cLOUDDEAD and Boards of Canada. BoC isnt hip-hop or rap, but it's good chill techno music.
