You need to read up on your history of Christianity. The early church took the pagan symbols and gave them a new meaning. Christ was the true "Son of God" not the emperor. New life sprang from an egg: Christ rose from the tomb hence the egg symbol. Symbols and icons point to or open us to a reality beyond themselves.
