I don't care what she did in power, I think she is fabulous and will always be my Idol.
It's obvious a luxurious life style can't really have much of an impact on the economy. Politicians obviously got power hungry and jealous so decided to encourage a whole load of propaganda.
The fact that she stayed in versailes, during uproar proves her innocence and devotion to France.
@lahuraka I feel that she was so young when she become betrothed to Louis and later became queen that she needed a way to escape. Fashion was her attempt to get away from the world as well as to mask the hurt and insecurities. She spent so lavishly to fill a void and because she was younger she didn't realize what consequences she would have to face. I feel that a revolt in France would've took place sooner or later and Marie was lucky enough to live it up before her untimely beheading.
@Moriah38 A lot of these 'great' monarchs came in to power around her age, or younger.
I don't think she was too young, I just think politics weren't her interest. She was in to fashion and art, she wasn't in to running a country. Her husband just made the wrong decisions and this clearly had damaging affects on Marie.
But if she hadn't been beheaded, we wouldn't be here today idolising her and finding her so interesting. She would just be a boring old crumb.
@rockinamber18 Well a lot of people in them days had grey hair I'm sure?
But even so, she was supposed to have a beautiful face and the fact that her hair would of been done up well, wouldn't really bother people. Having grey hair in those days was normal.
Also I think her attractiveness was mainly based on the fact that she was the queen and a wealthy trend setter, no so much her beauty.
she became an adult when it was too late.........sold as a child and sacrifed by her mother empress maria theresia. poor woman. she was totally naive and had no idea. and i also think she was not interested in finding out......and still...she was not a evil person...just totally naive. she paid the highest price.
she was an absolute silly girl (and not naive at all) ! beautiful, very greedy and with no limit. She thought it would go on that way for ever just like the whole nobility ! She liked living like a farmer (in the parc at Versailles she had a farm and animals..) while the people starving wanted to eat properly ! The French people could not stand her spending so much money in futilities meanwhile ! the "give the folk cake"... is totally wrong ! sure thing is she and the king had all the bad luck.
@martinlindsgaard I saw one in Washington DC, it was incredibly well hidden, and I almost cried when I saw it, I was so excited! It really is beautiful
Yes i do cherie....indeed...yet as child... i read much of her and was told stories... some things impressed me so much..."GIVE THE FOLK CAKE WHEN IT HAS NO BREAD"!...She was just naive...not bad...though she loved pump and luxus...but almost every woman does...LOL.....at least when she was excecuted se was very brave and went with dignity in her death...Marie Therese the Great surely never had thought her little girl were excecuted one day by french mob.....
She is one of my favorites & if she spent a fortune on jewelries & cloths so what ?? what you think all this rich politicians wives doing now ? But no one is blaming them.. are they not spending money on clothing with taxes we are paying you think ?& what the media is doing ? they are choosing the most elegant president's wife ..Marie Antoinette was the queen of France for God sake
@sugarbabe7771 Yea but she was doing it while her people were dying because they were hungry... Marie-Antoinette didn't realize what was going on in her country, but the people were starving, dying, and getting angry. The movie made her looks like an innoncent young lady, but you should do some reseaches and you will see that she wasnt THAT innocent and pure.
She is my favorite person from history because she is so misunderstood and hated, but she was really a kind and sensitive person; just like any one of us.
The peasants had a right to be angry and to rise up, but they shouldn't have blamed Marie Antoinette. She was only the Queen and didn't have much say in politics, but thte lies spread about her poisoned the suffering hearts of the masses. I guess every movement needs an enemy.
0:38.....finally, her normal hair color! much better than that dreary powdered hair look. the powder took the vibrancy and life from her hair. like an omen of her future.
hahaha, ya she loved her people so much,, she blew a fortune on clothes and jewels while the 3rd estates starved,, do you people get your info from the movie or a history book?
If you KNEW your history Marie Antoinette was the wife of an absolute monarch; THAT is the way monarchy functioned. Do not blame all the ills of France on this poor innocent woman. Just look at the violent barbarian revolutionaries who killed thousands of innocent people! THEY were the SCUM of the bloody republic! Hope they all burn in hell!
but i do know the history,, iv studied it in school, the barbarians that took her head was the thirds estates,, the leader of that was the estates general robs pierre , that what happens to leaders during revelution,, i dont feel bad for marie at all, people get pretty pissed off when their leaders go on a shopping spree while they starve, i liked the story about the fish wives stormed her castle , killed her gaurds and was about to tear her limb vfrom limb,, but she already left
oh my goodness the look so much alike! i had a feeling it was Maria Theresa because of the dresss stile but now we know who marie antoinette got her beaty from
What a beautiful woman. I really look up to her for just following her heart and doing what she thought was right. She was her own person and believed in herself. She didn't deserve to die and was wrongfully accused of things that she didn't do.
Rest in Peace Marie <3
I really like the picture on 1:26 & 2:12 (the last picture)
in fact I have to participate in my school's history fair and the topic is indviduals in history and of course I'm doing anexhibit on Marie Antoinette

She looked so ugly in her paintings.
Almost like an alien.
