  • I always wondered what the Yang family thought about Cheng Man-ching?

  • The effective use of firearms requires steady hands, a calm focused mind, lots of hand eye coordination, focus and yeah, breath control, all things taught in "traditional" martial arts. Far as I know no martial arts style will teach anybody to pull Neo stuff, BUT, fast hands means fast aim, and fast aim means a split second between being shoot, or shooting the guy trying to kill you. In the end though, if the Angel of Death's blackberry has your name at a certain time, you're done.

  • It was conclusively proven I think back in the 1970's by an extensive study, whose source I wish I could track down; statistically speaking, military recruits who held black belts in any martial art prior to joining the military, not only got higher scores upon finishing basic training, but, they were more likely to survive brutal war zones.

  • @stardingo747 saw it on "1,000 ways to die;" a helicopter pilot who should have died, actually survived "proof that you won't die, unless the angel of death wants you." No amount of martial arts training can fight fate; why does anyone here think the old masters emphasized the spirit so much? All the training in the world, no matter how skilled a martial artist may become, will not counteract bad karma, sooner or later the universe will get its revenge to maintain balance.

  • his form is excellent, but he looks so out of shape and unhealthy. Its sad watching Kung Fu deteriorate. That's inflexible Chinese thinking for you though; in real life and in the movies, Chinese martial artists lost faith in Kung Fu's effectiveness because of the development of ballistics in hand held firearms, which made bullets way too fast for anyone's reflexes. Of course never mind how Kung Fu improves focus, stability, dexterity, things you can use while aiming...

  • I find it interesting that he seldom turns his hands palm down the way so many insist up on these days. Lately i've been noticing that beginning with the hands more more perpendicular as he seems to perform the move cause far less bunching of the neck and upper back.

  • IS THIS CHINESE?

  • I believe he traveled with Yang Cheng Fu and answered any challenges, became Yang Cheng Fu's son-in-law and took Yang Zhenduo under his wing after Yang Cheng Fu's death. I think he only came to the US once, either in '93 or '94. He visited my Shifu in Mobile and a couple of other in door students while here in the states.

  • wow this looks great,Not that Beijing approved crap he really moves consistant with yin and yang principles and I bet even at his age he would have been formidble where the pudding in the pushhands

  • that "Beijing approved crap" is the form originally taught by master Yang Lu Chan. Of course, if its the 24 step version you're talking about then, I agree with you.

  • @stardingo747

the beijing 24 form is for health for those with health problems, it can be advanced as the student advances, the Fu family stepping and form is different from the Yang family stepping and form.

the 24 form looks more like the Yang family Yi Lu Laojia

  • It will be an honor to push hand with Master Fu Zhongwen and his grandson .

    RESPECT!

  • I love the low deep form of the Grandson. Years ago I taught for free and still I ate. Many 'teachers' are slow to advance students to draw out that income. Tai Chi Chuan should help us overcome material fear. We could all have beautiful homes if we shared and worked together. Think of the oldtime barn raisings and the quality of those buildings - the spirit of the community work. Try and buy a barn like that today. Buy Tai Chi Chuan?? How can you buy Heaven, Health or True Love. Te-Tao Ching...

  • It is very nice that the names of the forms are given in Chinese subtitles as he does them.

If you read any of Fu Zhongwen's interviews done in the 80s and 90s you will read about the traditional method of teaching before all the old masters passed away. Modern teachers aren't Laoshi, they are "coaches" but taijiquan isn't volleyball and can't be taught that way.

But people have to make a living, too bad modern material culture is poisonous to the ethic of teacher-disciple relationships.

  • I was very fortunate to have taken a 'Tuai-Shou' seminar(push-hand) in Baltimore,MD. with GrandMaster Fu in 1993. He was Supurb at Tai-Ji Chwen! A great loss to the Chinese Wu-Jya community! Coach Li

  • His form is obviously very good, and probably his control and circulation of chi as well. As odd as it may sound, it would have been an honor to get hit by him at least once to know how powerful he was, lol. My form currently is no where that quality yet.

  • That kid seemed to be in slowmotion compared to his surroundings. Very impressive for his age.

  • The form and postures are ok

  • I use to search for the "real" "pure" form and realized that tai chi is an art, and everybody interprets the art his own way, just like two musicians will play the same song differently. As long as the basics, tai chi essentials are correct, the form may/will be played according to the practitioners spirit/personality.

  • I've been practicing Yang tai chi for 13 years, learning with different masters and have never ever seen two persons do the form exactly the same. Not even my first sifu does it exactly the same as his own sifu...

  • orly? i've definately seen several people do the same movements in almost exactly copied movements in tai chi. high-level tai chi practitioners in wushu competitions are able to copy the forms almost mirror-quality. tai chi isn't much useful if the practitioner doesn't train in chi control while doing it. there's other controls beyond the physical moves of the dance-which is what a practitioner should concentrate on.

  • Competition tai chi is not real tai chi. But you are right in saying that tai chi is not much use without controling the qi. To see real tai chi observe real Masters not competitions.

  • They say that real Taiji looks like nothing. Master Yang Jun tells us once you under stand the spirit of Taijiquan you can change your form as you wish.

  • Who's the kid at the end?

  • I understand its his grandson :)

  • Very interesting to watch, his movements are quite small. I the school i come from the movements are more open. However you can see that all his body is going into the motion, so this guy would deliver some power to the techniques. The form is simila to the 37 yang style I do. Thank you for posting

  • It's interesting to see the individual flavor masters will bring to their form after years of practice. This isn't very standard compared to the lineage holders of the Yang family but you can definitely see the intention

  • Fu Zhongwen was "THE HOLDER" of the system. The most advanced student of Yang Chen Fu. He was the teacher of Yang Zhenduo due to the fact that Yang Chen Fu died when master Yang Zhenduo was only 8 years old. I don't think there is such a think as "standard" on taiji. Take a look to Yang Zhen ji video to see another not standard, but great master.

  • whats the song?

  • Yes, this is a geat chenese loss=(

    But still, it looks wonderful!

  • KWOO has no idea what he is talking about. You are obviously a beginner

  • great reply buddy. i think you will also appreicate my reply to dazizai. keep up the great work.

  • wonderful!!!
