Interesting! I love languages and am currently learning Esperanto. It's especially easy to learn if you know the basics of another European language, like French or German.
If it is as easy as Max believes, would not primary school Teachers be happy to assign, say, ten minutes a day to introduce children to the study of foreign languages ?
Do you know teachers? Then ask them. It seems to me that most native English speakers don't understand how time consuming it is to learn English and they think you can get by everywhere in the world with English. Therefore they believe it is not essential to learn a foreign language. There are however quite a few teachers that do think it is important to learn a foreign language, but they think of Chinese or Japanese not realising that most students will never master those languages.
Kia bonega intervjuo de Nicole kun mia amiko, Makso. Bone, ech bonege, ke li mencias la okazontan kongreson de AEA en julio, 2011. Tre elkoran dankegon al vi ambaû !
It is a very nice dream that everyone could understand each other without having to learn a difficult language like English, without giving native English speakers a very unfair advantage, but I don't think the world is ready for that yet. People are much more interested in scandals than in really understanding people from other cultures. I think it is up to the individual to take the initiative to learn Esperanto and then use it to get to know a wide variety of people.

Thank you for this friendly chat. If all children studied it as a second language would everyone be able to talk together after a few years ?
