pretend the engine was powered by blowing instead of sucking to help me understand this. the intake valve is open, the exhaust is closed, air gets sucked out of the cylinder pulling the piston up, the intake valve closes and the exhaust is opened so that air can get in during the down stroke correct?

Recently I left a comment on your channel complementing your wooden air engine, the one I could never build without plans, as I just can't picture things and build them.

But the Lego's it's a different story, I had a setup similar to that there, except my father was helping me at the time, and we managed to get two pistons. I realllllly wish I still had that thing to post, I think you'd get a kick out of it.

Maybe the next time I see or talk to my Dad I'll ask him if he even remotely remembers
