la partie en français de l chanson est un peu "massacrée". L’accentuation de certains mots ne sonne pas juste. c'est dommage. Pour la partie en anglais, elle est certainement très bien, mais je ne peux apprécier le contenu car ce n'est pas ma langue natale.
Given that Rufus grew up in Montreal, I assume any "massacre" is due to the constraints of the song - which he didn't write. The same happens in fitting lyrics to tunes in every language. It's only when we assume the singer is foreign to the languge that we notice it.
Lol do you guys even know what this song is about? xD I could pick out some of the words, and I thought it was going to be a sweet little nature song or something, then I looked up the complete translation :P
I love this song but I did find it quite disappointing that it wasn't actually the original video. Not bad taping, I was just expecting to see the original ):
Aaah, another great one from Rufus Wainwright. His voice is like a fine wine, smooth as silk. He is such a great musician, songwriter and live performer. So superbly talented. Finally saw him perform live for the first time this summer and he was absolutely amazing. Just blew me away. His voice is even better live than on CD.
I love this song, and Rufus Wainwright. I listen to it every night. I've gotten the French version down pretty well, and know the English translation decently.
His French accent is beautiful. <3 He is beautiful in every way, really.
@xcmike189 Actually, he's American. Born in Rhinebeck, NY, but lived most of his childhood in Quebec after his parents divorced. His father is American folk singer, Loudon Wainwright. Mother, recently deceased, was Kate McGarrigle, a Canadian. Rufus has lived in NYC for many years now.
I love this song so much...his accents really good, but I love it even more because I've got the Moulin Rouge piano book and can play it too :D too high (or low)to sing for me though :(
I love this song. Rufus Wainwright is talented in every way. He's amazing and has a beautiful voice, and I hope and pray he goes father than his dreams will ever take him.
What really annoys me is that they give all the frankly boring other songs from Moulin Rouge so much screentime and then this lovely song got about three lines at the beginning of the film!
it's about the moon shining and how much the singer loves a prostitute. "the moon too pale caresses the opals of your indifferent eyes" but he wants the "princess of the streets" to find comfort in his heart. that kind of thing.
<3 completely entranced.
