Why hate? I practice hardstyle lifting, but I have tremendous respect for GS-style as well.
It's like the difference between a power clean and a full clean - in Olympic competition you only see the latter, because it is more efficient and allows more weight to be lifted, but the former is good for beginners and intermediates in the gym.
@psamty I think your example may point out the reason for the hate. One will give you the best results (more weight lifted), the other is good for beginners... and people don't seem to give beginners as much respect as they do to those who have produced impressive numbers.
I have learned more by watching and listening to these two men for free on Youtube than all the DVD's I've bought over the years put together! In fact I had to unlearn a lot of bad habits. Amazing lifting Ivan. I hope to meet you some day.
Excellent endurance! I am just beginning my own training in GS (mostly getting technique by watching your and VF vids), and I really appreciate your focus and strength. I, too, began training over a year ago with 'hard' style, but in GS I think I've discovered what 'hard' truly is!
@nicholasj1968 The only people who call this 'soft' are those shallow, western thinkers who believe that since they've come across 'hard' there must be an antonym. There is this - the real thing - and there is 'hardstyle' (for 'hard' read: good for beginners but compared to GS turns out the strength and endurance of a sickly child).
Presumably anyone who refers to this as soft thinks uses the same adjective about olympic lifting.
@h3Xh3Xh3X Hi there. 'GS' stands for 'Girevoy Sport', the sport of lifting kettlebells (or 'girya'). Participants are 'girevik', and Ivan is one of the greatest of all time. (Many say THE greatest, but my knowledge isn't extensive enough to comment.)
