  • Jim Henson was a great man who worked for, and started, SS from 1969 till 1990 when he passed away. He was the man who originally performed ernie and kermit. He also started the Muppet show around the 70's.

  • Did elmo actualy say the word ME?????? WOW!

  • "Excuse me, typical youth".

    LOL!

  • ahhh how funny

but doesnt it look like elmo is doing something wierd at 0:19 lol

    i love elmo x

  • ideaAAA!!!

  • "Iiiiiddddeeeaaaa" LMFAO....Oh my. Between this and the other Kermit/Elmo video (Loud and Quit)...I am laughing so hard.

  • lol meeeee tooooo!

  • Elmo overpowers Kermit =P

  • iddeeeeeeaaaaasssss.

lol "dont take that much time"

  • WOW!! the memories....

  • Elmo has to identify himself? Must be one of his first appearances

  • haha the guy who voices elmo is a black dude

  • wth. why dont the writers put on any more kermit sketches? Sesame workshop still has the right to air them i think. These new ones suck anyway without frank oz. I guess the new generation of kids will grow up not knowing kermit the frog

  • Oh noes! It can't be happening! DX

  • HAHA Ideeeeaaa!

  • "Here comes a typical youth now. Excuse me typical youth"....hahahahahaha

  • Right, isnt Elmo suposed to teach childrend to share and stuff? Yah when Kermit said GIVE IT BACK Elmo said NOO!!! hOW RUDE

  • I think Elmo is suppose to reflect that of a younger brother. wanting to do everything with his big bro to the point where it pisses the older 1 off.

  • take ur time....

    dont take that much time

  • I'm wondering why Elmo didn't give Kermit back his microphone when he asked him to. And besides Kermit would've forced it right out of his hand and reminding Elmo to ask before taking things that belong to other Muppets and people. Kermit knew that idea for a game wasn't very good to him.

  • I LOVE KERMIT~!

  • This is a notable news flash segment because it features Kevin Clash. He didn't seem to do very many of these. I can think of only a few others off hand.

  • I Have An Ideeeeeeeeea

  • loved it

  • Elmo needs a haircut and a shave.

    He's come a long way. :)

  • I think he was on crack when he recorded this :D

    Still, funny vid though xD

  • Excuse me typical youth.... LOL

  • LOL

  • aww that made my day XD

  • noximez: Yep. Jim Henson created all the Muppets--from Sesame Street, to The Muppet Show, to Fraggle Rock, etc.--in terms of design and overall character, but it is the respective performer--in this case Kevin Clash--that would breathe life into the character (in this case, the somewhat slow & annoying-at-times, yet loveable 3-year-old monster called Elmo).

And of course Elmo is bigger than Kermit--even though the latter is older--because he's a monster, whereas Kermie is a frog!

  • I love Elmo. He's so cute. Elmo Rules!!

  • hes dang ugly fugly

  • fuzzy :)

Elmo is the best chararcter ever@@@

  • I'd like to see an Oscar's World skit. Lalala It's Oscar's world. Now Scram.

  • yes. yes he is. but they r made by the same person, but Sesame Street is for kids

  • isnt kermit on the muppets

  • iiiiiddddddeeeeaaaaaa lol i luv sesame street expecially elmo and kermit =P

  • best bits: "hello typical youth!"

    "ideaaaaaahhh!"

"FROG SAY BYE BYE!!" XD XD

  • Ideeeeeeaaaaaa!

    FROG SAY BYE BYE!

  • Frog say ''BYE-BYE''!

  • hahaha i like the last part lmao

  • Typical 3 year old "NAAOOHH"!

  • what? Elmo? typical?! SINCE WHEN!?

    Frog say bye bye!!!

  • Does anyone else think Elmo acts alot like Cheese in this, especially around 1:06

Does anyone else think Elmo acts alot like Cheese in this, especially around 1:06

    yes, but this was first.

  • "Excuse me typical youth!"

    lol

  • iii-deeee-yah LoOoOoL

  • too bad the audio level is soooo low

  • i loooove kermit's face when he's pulling the microphone. i just love puppets weird faces :P

  • Maybe Kermit has an extra microphone for Elmo to use.

  • Well, that certainly would've been a good idea.

  • i always found elmo's voice annoying and he seemed a lil slow...still not a fan

  • Elmo is HUGE in this, does anyone else notice that?!?!

  • well elmo is alot bigger of a puppet then Kermit

  • of course elmo is bigger, he is a monster, kermit is just a frog !!

  • Elmo did like 20 lines before he got interviewed.

  • ELMO iis zaliig <3

  • The irony is that this is my first time seeing this clip in English. I have seen this exact same clip only in Spanish on "Plaza Sesamo". Can you beat that? LOL.

  • I think I liked it when he interviewed fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters better.

  • Elmo play REPORTER GAAAAYYYYME!!!!

  • I didn't know Elmo was so large (or that Kermit was so small) lol

  • This is when Elmo was cool _Eric ;)

  • elmos ALWAYS been cool....lol

  • well he used to be in the early years of his character, but they changed him and he became a different character and way too commercial!

  • how did he change? what clips show it? i watched in 92ish and surrounding years, was he ok then?

  • He's everybodys.

  • I Lov Elmo! He's my favourite Sesame street character!

  • (chuckles) Now I know what makes Elmo so dumb....

  • Heh heh! Seems like Elmo wants to become a reporter when he grows up! :P

  • is it me or does Elmo look a lot shaggier back then?

  • yeah, looks like he has to shave

  • I'm afraid to say I think the introduction of Elmo marked the beginning of the end. He was just a bit too cutesy, something that Sesame Street before had always managed to avoid.

Before you know it- shoom! Barney the bloody dinosaur!

  • True, but then again, being cutesy was the only way to be both entertaining and apolitical at the same time.

  • I disagree with that. There are hundreds of ways to be entertaining without being cutesy or political. Problem is, SS became cutesy AND political. "Let's count to ten the United Nations way!" (Actual recent muppet quote)

  • When I say "apolitical", I mean to say that it doesn't grate on a politician's nerves.

  • qlickmam: Politicans are liars & so, their nerves deserve to be grated.

  • I don't know. Elmo was already around when I started watching Sesame Street (I was born in 1986) and I liked him then. I think the beginning of the end was Jim Henson's death myself. I don't hate Elmo by any means. I just wish he had remained a secondary character the way he started. Unfortunately, children were growing to like him more and more as the years went on and they wanted more. CTW apparently just didn't have the guts to ignore their request.

  • i was shallow when i was young and liked Elmo... ah foolish youth, he wasntso sweet, grover was better

  • aw but he's so huggly ^__^

  • I like the way they say that word ideeeeeea

  • Ha- I remember this one! Kermit actually had a few good skits with Elmo- this was definitely one of them. But I notice that Elmo was really, really huge in 1986- he looks so much bigger compared to Kermit in this clip.

  • Cool!

  • "Take your time.

...Don't take that much time; go ahead."

Egad, has the Kevin Clash-voiced Elmo been on Sesame Street for twenty years?!

  • 21, actually.
