It's not a viable option. It takes more energy to propel a vehicle that is controllable in the atmosphere to an exit velocity by this method than rocket launches.
@axisofoil2 yes, but the energy does not need to be stored on the vehicle, making it possible to use energy in forms other than fuel. there is an electromagnetic version of this being attempted over in europe
