@semicroma The Y is represented as a D as a result of using a alphabet cycle against the piano's white notes - A = H, O, V ; B = I, P, W ; C = J, Q, X; D = K, R, Y ; E = L, S, Z ; F = M, T; G = N, U. This is combined with German notation (where H is used for B natural) to give HAYDN as BADDG

thanks phooifun, Well it was a commission that many composers undertook to write a piece based on the letters HAYDN. I think the main aim of playing this is to keep in mind how classical the phrases are. Many people make the mistake of indulging the nice harmonies a bit too much as it loses the classical dance aspect which makes it so beautiful
hi, i like ur playing so much.. Do u mind sharing with me what is the character of the piece? What is the composer trying to project in the piece? what picture should i relate to when interpreting the piece? Thanks a lot!
the notes of the main theme are based on the letters HAYDN (in German musical notation), you will see it spelt backwards, upside down etc, as an homage to the type of counterpoint methods used by baroque / classical composers
Why are the letter Y represented with the note D?
