Not all know martial arts.........sometimes people are prepared and other times not.......For me judo or jujitsu are the best systems about self defense and also good for the body and the health
Just wondering - what does one do against someone who punches & kicks in combinations, giving flurries of attacks rather than single punches? I notice with some of the blocks, you turn your whole body in to blocking & countering the initial punch, which leaves you potentially open. I appreciate that you're demonstrating how to counter a particular punch of course...
Remember that you can block and strike simultanously, therefore breaking the attackers chain of blows. Also blows and kick are not as effective in very close(grappling) range. Combine these two factors with an element of surprise and you're quite likely to achieve a takedown and end up in a control position even against a experienced striker.
I started off training different karate styles for 2,5 half years so it does influence my motions. =)
I study german ju-jutsu though most people just call it ju-jutsu here in contrast to japanese ju-jitsu or jiu-jitsu. And I also practice classical kodokan judo.
Belts and ranks are of less importance than most people think: I have beaten black belts in sparring and grappling, but I also lost to white belts =).
Keep that in mind and do not under- or overestimate people just because the look powerful or have a certain belts.
Well, I think so too. I never meant that your belt was any problem I´m only accustomed to black belt on video(many times bad ones). So I thought there was som diffrent belt system. I´m a Nikyu my self (blue belt, for the ones that do´t know) and have intructor licence and I have tried to teach this to my students. Good woork. Hope for more.
In karate class, I was taught a variation which was, if they come in with a straight punch, high block it, the block turns to grab, in the process of grabbing, the arm turns to the side, punch straight to the face with the other arm, grab the shoulder with the arm that punched and then sweep down with the leg.

Solid demos of classical responses to formal attacks. Well done.
I did notice that the blocks at the start of the video look more like karate than nihon jujutsu. Which jujutsu ryu / ryuha do you study?
