  • only cars that counted in that advert are the race cars and the cosworths

  • My grandad had 91`Sierra azura.he sold it unfortunatly.it could be mine.:(

  • My dad spent ages trying to tape this advert years ago when it came on,, We had a 1.6L which was quite a rare one as it was the 3-door ! Just like the Cosworth but without the sunroof, it was a 1983 model and we upgraded it to a 85 model with the Ghia style grill bumpers and lamps and also those rear "ears" at the edge of the side window that stopped the crosswinds It looked really smart, But sadly like all everyday cars it just began to rust away and in 1995 we traded it for a Granada.

  • i miss the sierra. :(

  • I TAKE COSSIE RS 500 !!!!!

  • Sierra <3

  • I noticed a few years ago that there seem to be more 1990-93 ish Sierras around than 1993-95 Mondeos. I think Ford stopped building Sierra because they were too well made.

  • Its this, its that, if it was made in England it was rotten in 3 years. For some reason the German or Belgian ones were a lot better made.

  • @Paddy075 Says who?? The ones from the Saarlouis factory tended to rust even faster even in Southern countries. The Belgian ones were solid though

  • Brings me back to the days when sierras were a common site on our roads :( I was born in 1987 and I remember when seeing mk1 sierras, mk3 escorts etc was a daily site on our roads, now even when i see a mk2 sierra I turn my head and have a good look. Shame really not into modern cars that are difficult to fix and boring to drive.

  • My dad had the xr4x4..... What a car and what dad!!!

  • I say, fuck the future!

  • 0:22 its a bloody slow middle-lane hogging diesel

  • its 4x4 its a race car its a hatch back its a saloon and its my DREAM CAR!

  • @Cookiefan1876 my job was to maintain both. sierras could rust their sills very quickly because the metal was so thin and not well sealed these fords certainly could rust. i would have the cavalier they were better, more solidly built.. maybe it depends if you like fwd or rwd.

  • my dad had a green A reg. we had it for 14 years. in the end we called it lucy. was one of the family

  • 'it has fuel injection' haha. I think I am the last generation that will use a carb. Choke out and effing and blinding whist smashing the throttle in! Good times

  • My brother is 20 years old and has owned 16 sierra's, great cars!

  • When Ford actually did have a bit of style on their cars lol

  • Great work getting this uploaded at such good quality! It might be old but the Sierra 4x4 still looks great I think!

  • itz my dream saloon if im 18

  • I like all the variants mentioned... Until he said "Diesal"...

  • Ford Sierra and GMC Sierra hmmm.....

  • "The only reason you didn't buy a Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth is because you forgot about it."

    Jeremy Clarkson

  • haha i love how the diesel is being overtaken by a coach and a lorry on both sides! a hint at how slow it is.

  • may seem like an odd question but how come the video is such good quality? is it not from VHS?

  • @speakeasy365 - It was taken off a 20 year old VHS tape!

  • @atariman1988 wow it looks like its from professional master! how do you get VHS on to youtube? whats your process?

  • @speakeasy365 From tape over to DVD using fairly high-spec kit, then the VOB files get split into individual ads and uploaded directly without any further compression at my end which I suppose explains why they still look good after YT have processed them.

  • @atariman1988

Really good quality. Can you share with us what high spec kit you used? I've been trying to perfect the quest of VHS to DVD / digital transfers for years and still am not happy with it. I have hundreds of old tapes to transfer but gave up as the quality of dvd recorder on the fly mpeg compression was not good enough for me. I thought about using a DV camcorder with an AV in to transfer to dv-avi then process to dvd. But getting hold of a camcorder is getting hard.

  • @rareads - Sony VHS recorder, through a triple-screened gold-plated AV cable into a Philips DVD recorder. The DVD was then split up (using DVDShrink) into seperate ads. The VOB files were then uploaded to YT, who would then process them into FLV format.

  • @atariman1988

    Thanks for that info

  • @speakeasy365 some video machines recorded brilliant m8 just analog tv and early scart that usually let it down

  • I'm in love with SIERRA by FORD

  • Used to find stolen sierras dumped all over the countryside

  • nice ride, the xr4i i like that car.

  • They did a one off high performance Ford Sierra XR4x4i too!

  • Fords are great cars.

  • Still is: The vehicle details for F734 LPU are: Date of Liability 01 01 2011 Date of First Registration 06 10 1988 Year of Manufacture 1988 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1993CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour GREY
  • so how are these cars to run as a daily drive?Expensive? Reliable? Economical? Comfy?

  • depends which 1 you get, i have the xr4x4 its very comfy, very reliable but at 21mpg on a realy good day not economical, the 2.0 is a good car especial the glsi or ghia, economy isnt bad eather. i keep selling them on but always go back to the sierra theres just something about them.

  • thanks mate, need a new everyday car and it must be a ford lol.

  • i had a 4x4 2.9i, worst understeering lump of overhyped dogshit ive ever driven. Nearly wrapped it round a few lamposts before i managed to find a mug to give me my money back for it ...never again

  • @007bondspy You shouldn't brag about that, shows how incompetent you are behind the wheel - -

  • i wish i could buy a 2.0 ghia sapphire brand new today

  • Dont we all!

  • This was an incredible car. Superb soundtrack to highlight it. Dig the '3D' drumming at 0:11. The Sierra realy hit the benchmark in styling and technology. One of the most handsome Estates ever designed (cow car). One of the most fastest road cars ever built(superb aerodynamics). One of the most luxurious 'domestic' cars ever created.(heating & air filteration) One of the greatest range of models available(lost count!) It punched a hole into the future of British Motoring but the seals would leak!

  • Q CHULO

  • i had a ford sierra and the window got jamed

  • @thetaylorschool so what

  • the estate one lasted till march 2004

  • the one that said it has 4 wheel drive the white one lasted til april this year 2009! wow probably scrapped now :(

  • more likely stripped for parts if it got to that age.

  • WOW COOL the second one the turbo one in this ad F734 LPU is still ALIVE and on the road wow!!

thge owner must be pourd!! xD

  • the sapphire cosworth is actually for sale on the pistonheads website

  • i have an xr4x4 i show it at car shows its amazing how many comments i get like, my dad had 1 of these or this brings back memories i had 1 of these lol i love my sierra and im glad even today people still have happy memories of them.

  • a friend of mine has an XR4i,

i don't know what condition it is in,

but i want to get it running

  • Get it running and get a vid up on YT, you know you want to.

  • My dad used 2 av a sierra bout 11 years ago, it was the same type sierra as the one at 0:22, exept i was white.

    :)

  • I have a sierra sapphire cossie :) HOpe to own a RS500 someday.

  • I used to have a Sierra years ago, was only a peasant 1.6 GL, a G reg one, was absolutely mint inside and out but engine was soooo bollocksed it was embarrassing, it used to smoke so bad you could barely see through it LOL the cylinder head was cracked and so constantly burned oil but it always started 1st time everytime and ran fine, never had to service it as it always used to get a fresh litre of oil every day:-s I miss it still, especially when its been raining lol

  • the sierra was designed by the french

guy "patrick le quément" thank you !

  • I think the Sierra was also designed by a Belgian as well wasn't it? As far as Europe goes, I think Sierras were also built in the UK and Germany as well.

  • My dad had a K-Reg. 1.6 Sierra Azura (one of the last models ever to be made). One of the best cars he ever owned, sold it in 1999 and it still never had a spot of corrosion on the bodywork at all!

There is, only one....Ford Sierra! :)

  • hey i have the 2.9 engine hihi

    goes lika rocket

  • i like how they actualy show the car unlike most ford ads of today.

i love the sierra, i sell 1 and get something else but i always return to the sierra.

  • They can bury me in my sierra. Love this advirse.

  • The Sierra was a great car (like this ad. Brilliant sound track. Dig that excellent drumming at 0:12) The sierra estate is of special note as it tried hard to look sleak and beautiful ('the cow car'). Remember, most estate cars were quite ugly. They would forsake looks for functionality. Those rather notorious 'species cars' that were such a blot on the roadscape in the 70s (the Ford Cortina Estate, one example) as well as the 'max cars' functional family station wagons. urgh!

  • they missed out the most common one- "it's a 1.8 LX driven by a sales rep stuck in traffic on the M25" lol

These were good reliable cars, let down for me by poor rustproofing. I still own a 2.3 sapphire, they can bury me in it

  • i used to to have a 2.0 gls and was mint.great on motorway.

  • Same here matey lol 1987 2.0 gls could cruise at 115 all day long

  • Im in love with ford

  • "Why dont they do adverts like that anymore"

Why dont they build cars like that anymore.

  • @dougisamug yea most of the ford ads now dont even show you the car, shows there proud of the crap they make now lol

  • @dougisamug i had one 2 litre injection went like shit of a shovel back then was the dogs bollox if you had a cosworth you was rich lol

  • one of the greatest cars ever made!!! love it!!!

  • its a beast !

  • Nevertheless,I think the Sierra has proved better than the Fiesta as a modern Ford car.I would definately buy one because I can't stand the Fiesta so the Sierra is my favorite Ford car.

  • Great Sierra advert,I love Sierras.

  • This advert actually makes me want to go out and buy one...can't say that for most adverts these days!

  • Why dont they do adverts like that anymore

  • my fav car...it would nice to own some day with licence cosworth sierra 1988 and cosworth sierra 1990 and sierra 1987 and sierra xr4 1987 and sierra estate 1987-1991

  • Sierras were mostly made in Belgium but they were still great cars and you still see quite a lot about even though none have been made for 15 years, they were far better than the MKII Cavaliers!

  • My Sierra 2.9 4x4 ghia is still going strong!

  • My Sierra 2.9 4x4 ghia is still going strong!

  • These things sure are a superb vehicle, in turbo petrol form certainly. Dominated Motor Sport in Australia in the late 1980's.

  • ford sierras are great

in fact fords in general pretty much built the UK, just look at the transit!

  • that's why people think that the sierra is something..it's because they were built in your country..but what ever is built in your country isn't the best..

  • very true - british leyland built some appauling cars!

  • And Ford didn't? Rust buckets!

  • Sierras were built in Genk, Belgium.

  • Of course its old its been out of production since 1993, but that dont mean that its a bad car you cock head.

The Accent however always was a cheap eurobox lookalike disposable car.

There is only one Ford Sierra.

  • it is a crap car..old, underpowered, dated, slow, low fuel economy, slopy suspension...the hyundai accent is better, has abs, airbags, better handling, engines are more powerfull...it's just cheap for people that don't want to spend or don't have to spend a lot of money.. wake up..

  • Congrats mate - you have just demonstrated your complete lack of knowledge about cars if you think a hyundai accent is good...

  • his right..hyundai and kia's cars are more modern than a 20 year old ford. look at thei30 and the cee'd

  • This was always my argument about the sierra. how many cars could you say this about

  • hell those were the days!!!!
